Reading the GTA wiki entries for various vehicles and then looking up the vehicles they are based on has taught me more about car makes and models than I would ever have learned otherwise.

 

Roaming around hunting for vehicles that can't be purchased got me in the habit of noticing various distinctive design cues on vehicles I pass.

 

Together that new knowledge and new habit have me GTA identifying vehicles in real life, and also just learning and noticing more about real vehicles.

 

Also, customizing my rides to the last detail in LSC, often attempting to match one of the real-life inspirations for the vehicle, has got me paying attention to wheel designs in real life more than I ever would have imagined.

I saw a Gallavanter Baller mk1 (RANGE ROVER) with a busted bumper the other day and thought to myself "I should be able to get at least $8356 for that at LSC"

 

THen about 10 mins later I saw a Baller mk2 followed by a Western Bagger!
