Constant freezing and control lock ups.

Might be heat related, but sometimes the game (mainly online) will randomly freeze, I'll be able to press the xbox button but no menu comes up even though I can hear it. Usually nothing I can do other turn the console off from the power. Happens more and more after missions and is fairly frequent after long gaming. Maybe it's overheating my console?

Also, noticing I can't hold down on the directional pad to bring up the change character dial. Sometimes I can't shoot, but I can drive. And once I drive I can't stop and exit the vehicle.

It's either because you're using an older console, which would explain an overheating problem (in my experience, the newer XBOX 360 models can handle more than the older models) or it could be a problem with your controller. If you use standard batteries, try changing your batteries to a new pair (doesn't matter which brand); if you use rechargeable batteries or the charging pack, you could give a new pair of batteries a try to see if your accessories or rechargeable batteries are causing the problem.

 

It could be down to damage on the disc too, though, so you'll have to check that your disc isn't badly damaged.

 

If it's none of them, it could be because of a fault in the installation process/game data. In that case, delete all game data (installation data, not save data) and reinstall.
