Trolling; Why?

bwaa ha ha ha ha.... oh man, you guys make it just TOOO easy yea? Kinda why I mentioned I was keeping GTAF outta this. I could almost hear the responses in my head with what some have already replied with. Thanks for keeping up the consistency and my faith in the ignorance and vitriol that is rampant on GTAF.

Seriously, as I mentioned in the "Help" thread (now locked lol), I could write a program with the standard ignorant replies posted here daily and ya'll could just click a button to have it fill in the reply box and save yerselves some time.

 

I own a few companies, have a family and well... I play games for fun. I don't rage. I don't really care what others do. Gaming is not a pissing contest in case some of ya didn't know. It actually means nothing IRL. Ya'll take this sh*t waaaaay too seriously LOL.

Dear Mods; please do feel free to lock with one up now. We can all see where it's headed. Sure, I was being somewhat cheeky knowing what I'd get from the tread, but I was actually interested in potentially having a bit of a discussion around it. That's my own ignorance I guess. At the end of the day, I have seemingly trolled the trolls. My bad.

See, I don't think that would fall under my personal definition. It's GTA, killin' peeps is one of the core elements. For me it's about the 'easy' kills... that got boring as I mentioned. I play for fun and for me, that's not much fun, (LSC kills, spawn killin' noobs, stores etc..). The game, like the real world, contains all kinds of peeps. I was just more curious if I was missing something, or if I just didn't have the mentality.

I wonder if anyone actually thinks about it deeply in their mind. If I spawn kill that guy, how will he feel? Would I like to feel like that? Am I the only one that deserves to have fun? Why would I do that?

 

Obviously, most of the peoples in the game bought it too, just like you. They play it for the same reason as most of the players, to have fun or pass time.

 

It's just too bad that now players get stressed and ready to fight at the moment another player enters their mini map. What happened to the morals and sence of humanity?

 

I understand the need of revenge and competition, but being cruel and evil to thoses who don't deserve it wasn't necessary.

my goal is to see how mad i can make someone (i only troll guys on the mic). i find it hilarious the sh*t they say! often times they start throwing out racial slurs as if they knew my ethnicity. even if they did, it's still dumb as hell anyway.

 

i especially like to troll guys on the mic who say ni**er this, ni**er that. i've had better success against the people who sound black as they get really worked up. also, guys who glitched up to a high level feel entitled, even though often they are bad at the game. i often like to troll them and expose how bad they really are

Ahhhh... well... first off, I have my own thoughts on why folks do things. But as intimated earlier, I am seeking to understand more than what I personally think. Call it growth if you will. So how I 'get it' and what the reality may be, could be entirely different things. So, I muse about it on the forums. The last I checked, that's kinda an element of what they are.

 

Secondly, it's always interesting to see how others perceive the game. I had observed an interesting trend in a thread recently where it truly showed, by the reactions, how amazingly diverse the approaches to it are. From car collectors, to photographers, to racers, to warriors (FM run and gunners) on and on. As such, I wouldn't be so quick to judge if I am playing the 'right' game or playing the 'right' way.

 

But I do appreciate the advice and am certainly still having fun in my own ways.

Ok cool. See? I am not at all opposed to putting some sh*thead in their place. Truth be told, I can get a little too worked up, so I don't bother much anymore. And really, now that I think about it, I play a ton with peeps in IO over the last while (doing events etc) and when in FM, am with them or other friends. I haven't spent much time in FM in a 'lone wolf' capacity over the last while. As such, haven't had to deal with as many nut-jobs. But the types you've mentioned I'd likely have no problem messing with.

lol thanks... appreciate the perceptive thinking there... but.... meh... It's too be expected. No point even bothering. As I mentioned earlier, I did expect a fair number of one-line and poorly thought out remarks on the thread. I am merely panning through the soil to find some nuggets of value.

I hear ya. One of my kids that plays spends most of her time in FM blowin' stuff up. But I wouldn't really consider what her and the friends do as trolling per se. I guess I was more musing about the 'hardcore trolls'.

Makes some sense. As I mentioned off the top, I did some 'troll-ish' sh*t along the way, it just got old for me. I always agree that the game can be played as the person that bought it see's fit... more just curious to get a sense of where the true trolling comes from and how it stays interesting long term. For that, I congratulate everyone LOL. Seems we've been in a bit of a downward spiral lately with threads getting locked left and right.

I wouldn't call that trolling at all. The game had its origins doing nothing but killing people and blowing up cars (tank included!). Spawn killing a passive mode player for a couple hours is trolling. That's usually mistakenly called griefing.

 

Also, children do childish things. When adults still behave in that fashion and purposely do things for "lulz" (f*ck I hate that word) something isn't quite right.

Seeing a few posts today... so it must be the topic du jour? Anyway....

 

For starters, I am not talking about the GTAF, that's a completely diff story and one I'd like to avoid atm.

 

But, in the game; what's the goal?

 

To get some squeaker raging?

To show yer awesomeness?

To fight the boredom until that next big thing comes along (DLC etc)?

To get a laugh at another players expense/frustration?

 

Sure, when I started I stickied the odd vehicle outside of LSC. Trapped peeps in a store. Rampaged with a tank. On and on... but to be honest, it got old real quick. Maybe I'm not enough of a sadist, but I just didn't find it "fun". At least not over the long haul. Do you go into the local pub and knock over people's beers and sing the "trololol" song? Does anyone actually "troll" people IRL? Or is this just some kinda ego-feed for online gamers?

 

And I guess in extension to the topic; why do some people allow trolls to affect them? If I am getting trolled or spawn trapped, it's pretty easy to go off radar, go passive, find a new session and so on. I don't get worked up about it as... well... it's a fckn game. I re-spawn when I "die" and tbh, money isn't all that hard to come by (if for example, that tanker doesn't have to pay the insurance)

 

The trolls over in Battlefield are even funnier... putting c4 on a friendly vehicle to blow it up when someone gets in, just for the reaction.

 

So, can someone please enlighten me as to what is so 'fun' about it? Again, I ain't judging per se... ya'll can play the game as U please. No skin off my nads. I just struggle to see the point of it.

It's fun. Trolling in a tank, or sticky bombing people's cars while they're in a store, putting a sticky bomb in front of an exit of a store, sticky bombs in front of garages where the cars exit, sniping people from a rooftop, detonating a sticky bomb in my car with a random player as passenger trying to shoot cops. It does get old fast but it's fun for half an hour or so.
