I just got "Busted" at 5 stars

So I'm playing as Trevor on a 5 star pursuit down the Grand Senora highway, flooring it in my Infernus. I get pit maneuvered by one of those bulletproof police Burritos and my car flies off the road and flips over into a tree. I managed to unflip myself but one side of the car is lifted on a rock or something and I'm completely stuck. As soon as I noticed I can't get the car out of there and before I tried to get out, the police even on 5 stars ceased fire and ran up to my window and i got busted somehow without even exiting the car. This reminds me of the good old 3D era where you could get busted at 6 stars because you got hit by a traffic car while a cop was standing right there. Has this happened to you? In my previous experiences at 4-5 stars, the police just drag me out of my car when I sit still and unload their guns into me. Maybe it's because I was stuck?

This is interesting as we've dove deeper into the mechanics of the wanted level system

why would anyone try to arrest you? You're f*cking nuts you need to be put down before you hurt anyone else.

Today I got busted as Michael at 4 stars but as with your case the car was disabled; police stopped, got out of their cars and arrested him.

Get a 2-3 star wanted level and sit still in a car and don't get out. As long as you dont move, they will stop shooting after a few shots and arrest you.

"Busted"? I thought that was an urban myth from GTA IV thereon.

Seriously, it's almost impossible to be arrested in the most recent GTA games. At least 99.9% of the time, you actually have to let the cops arrest you now.

To date never been Busted in GTA V. I also saved after each mission before proceeding to the next, so I could keep my 0 Death Stats, and 0 Times Busted stats at 0...

Yeah it's possible, pretty cool to, if you don't feel like going out in a blaze of glory, just pull up and park your vehicle, the cops will park in front and behind you, and one officer will slowly approach the vehicle to drag you out.

Cops in GTA V act as if they bleed from their vagina. And its annoying as f*ck... I dont know if L.A.P.D cops in real life in Los Angeles are like that, wich i highly doubt, but whatever. Up to R* to patch something for the cops or not...

Police AI works vastly different from all the other GTAs, getting busted inst something as forced as the eirlier ones so instead of cops opening your door and dragging you out of the car like in previous games. They will now open fire at your tires then the highest ranking officer on scene will yell an order to cease fire, imediatly after that and officer will approach your door and an animation will display of him aiming at you, ofcourse our character will get out of the vehicle with his hands up. This only happens if the vehicle isnt stuck.

In the III era, being busted was a not so unlikely occurrence and made you wary of police officers on foot. Which is fair enough because from the instant you trigger the enter vehicle animation, you're totally invincible until your car's on fire. But now that cars aren't safe anymore, and you're exposed to gunfire from all angles, being busted is not a threat anymore. It is part of the reason why the police are tougher in this game, instead of being shot through the windscreen at one f*cking star the AI should use clever tactics to try and get you out the car, not just shoot to kill.

Tragic really that just about any 3D era game has more advanced cop AI and scripting than f*cking V. Oh how the mighty have fallen.

I miss running from cops on foot going around in circles while they try hitting me with their nightstick, good times

In V they just start shooting and you get 2 stars if you run more than 5sec, its retarded

Yeah really was fun.

The last decent cop AI has to go to IV. I can get into a long police chase with 1 star and the cops will almost never open fire on me unless I take hostile action like shooting first or running them over. I loved that it allowed you to even bail from a car and have a foot chase.

Now in V you CANNOT have a proper chase as the game automatically escalates to a 2 star level after a few seconds even if all you did was run from the police and not make any hostile actions. Terrible.

It's sad. Games are supposed to advance and build on their progress in predecessors, not remove progress and regress in features and content.

If you don't want to die in a vehicle, steal and store a Police Riot. It's bulletproof, minus TWO windows, plus the tires... ;)

Edit: Is this topic now turning into a crying fest of the babies who can't last long while wanted? If so, go cry in the "Are the Police Difficult" topic over in Gameplay, it's pinned and been there since September.

It's not about lasting against the police. It's about how the police AI was simplified and scripted far worse in V than any other GTA prior. Police do not just randomly open fire on an unarmed man who's only wrong doing was standing still next to a f*cking pedestrian. But apparently in V they do.

This automatic escalation of intensity from the police is a step down in logic and protocol from the AI in IV. All they had to do was copy paste the police code from IV and make some subtle tweaks to it. That's it. Instead they retardedly butcher the entire wanted system and make an unfun experience for people just looking to run from the cops without automatically being viewed as Christopher Dorner by the LAPD.

I agree that it has it's flaws, but at the same time, it feels rewarding to me when I can annihilate tons of cops, and last 1 to 2 hours on a 5 star. This is an accomplishment in my eyes due to what you said. The cops are markmen with 98% accuracy, and shoot you til death from 1 and 2 stars. So to survive as long as I can with 5 stars feels good.

The Police Mavericks are a joke, too, with the Al I mean. You take down two choppers on 4 and 5 stars two more will spawn almost instantly within seconds. The game is scripted to have two choppers on you AT ALL TIMES. No matter what the case may be.

The cops aren't even seen driving around often, like you see in III, Vice City, San Andreas, and IV. The only time in V you see cops driving around is in Los Santos near the Impound Garage. Other than that, they are completely gone.......Until you get 1+ stars, then they magically appear. I honestly like this system because it's flawed, which makes it a bigger challenge to stay alive. Therefore I am not complaining in the slightest.

The cops use NOS/Nitrous for speed boost when ramming you, but to avoid this, you just turn left or right, and they will slow down, keep going left, then right, then left, right, left, right, etc and they will NEVER ram you.

GTA V wanted system, imo, is all about planning and strategy. If you open fire standing in the middle of nowhere with no getaway vehicle and no subway/train tunnels to go into, be prepared to die sooner or later. Unless you're in a Tank, Police Riot, Police Transporter, Attack Chopper, or Lazer...

Nobodies complaining about end game wanted levels. Its early on segments that are broken, particularly the nonexistent 1 star. I just want to run through the hood as a black dude being chased by cops and have a police helicopter shining it's floodlight on me as I hop fences and run past barking rottweilers only to get caught in a dead end alley, raise my hands and get arrested.

You have fun blowing sh*t up, I have fun playing catch me if you can. You can have your fun, I can't. I can in IV just as you can in IV. But V ruined it for me.

When it comes to "on foot" I usually hop on flatbed car of the train. Cuz like you said, yes, I do like blowing vehicles up with Tank, Lazer, Attack Chopper. But when I want to test out my guns, I usually hop onto the train and use the AP Pistol, Advanced Rifle, MG, Combat MG, and Minigun. Inside my Police Riot is a challenge, too, because I use the SMG and try to kill the cops while driving through the city, or at the airport, or anywhere really.

I try to avoid what you like actually. That stuff just doesn't work in V - The on foot running around type of police chases. The only options, imo, in GTA V is on the Train, Police Riot/Transporter, Lazer, Tank, or Attack Chopper.

But if you think about it, GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas were the same as V in a way, when it comes to on foot chases. If you have 5/6 stars in GTA III and you're on foot, you're dead due to the FIB Kuruma with 4 guys inside with M4's. It shoots so fast you can literally count to 1, 2, and your 100 health and 100 armor is gone, you're dead. The Military's weapons when the Rhino Tank and Barracks would come after you are no different than the 5 star FIB Kuruma's. Vice City, the same thing, and San Andreas, too. The PS2 era games had pretty wicked cops. The only difference in those games were LOW WANTED LEVELS of 1 and 2 stars. When you had low wanted levels the cops just chased you on foot and didn't open fire, but I like how in V they are so relentless and shoot to kill as quick as possible. I am not a fan of "realism" tbh in fake video games that are here for fun, but in real life a crazed maniac with a gun killing people wouldn't be chased by police. SWAT goes right in and shoots the f*ck down until he's dead, there is no hesitation, and there is no waiting twittling their thumbs. SWAT has learned that from Columbine 1999 School Massacre with Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. Nobody f*cks around in real life now a days, they shoot to kill, just like the cops do in V.

Happened to me on 3 stars yesterday. I drove with Franklin, I think, with a 3 star wanted level. My stars turned grey, so I decided to go to an alleyway because I had to go to the bathroom. When I returned, I was at the police department with all my ammo stripped. I was amazed! They didn't kill me!!

I've gotta say, I've never once been busted in V. I didn't even realize it was a feature. I remember getting busted in IV on occasion. I guess now its my escape or die mentality. I know all the locations to get away, and if I can't make it, I'll die before they take me in. Like a good movie.

It's actually realistic, LAPD is one of the most corrupt police departments in USA. Remember the thing with Christopher Dorner? There was some leaked audio when he was pinned down in the shack in the hills, and it went like 'he's f*cking done for' 'what should we do?' 'burn the f*cker down' and so they did (even if he shot himself before)

I spent a great deal of time debating this idea in my mind. I am too familiar with the corruption in LAPD and how quick they are to use force in the most unnecessary of times. It would be a terrific satire of their excessive nature to make the police in Los Santos act in a similar manner.

This same ideology can be applied to the behavior of the pedestrians. Get in a car in GTA IV and drive around on the boardwalk in Broker. As long as you aren't outright gunning it, nobody gives a sh*t. This is typical New Yorker behavior (I was born in NY and live in NJ my whole life, I know this to be pretty hilariously true.) Now contrast this to Los Angeles citizens who are paranoid and easily startled pansies and yeah it's possible that the way pedestrians in V act too cautiously, is also satire of their paranoid personalities.

But then at the same time I can't help but feel that, no, these are just step downs from function either unintentionally or intentionally with the desire to optimize the game's performance. The reason I feel that it is just a plain step down is why remove other features from IV that were not related to satirizing the world, like the ability to tap Y/Triangle to leave the engine running and exit your vehicle? Why remove that? Likely for the same reasons that police and pedestrian AI were dumbed down. Complex routines and scripts put more toll on the processor and by stripping it of it's detailed features and code, you get the game to run that much more smoothly.

This is all me theorizing, nothing more. The only thing that is concrete in this post are the observations of definitively reduced function in V, that I have noticed in the AI and game code.

How is the Police AI worse? IV was totally sh*t, you ever heard about the suicide cop glitch in where one by one they would climb the ladder for a billboard while you were on it and all of the sudden each one of them started going to the side and fall to their deaths?

In terms of AI the police is practically avanced more than any in this game, the only actual advantage the 3D era cops had was that animations were used for a character's death back than, making it possible for them to bust you.

So far what I got from the AI was f*cking great, I mean I just assaulted this two guys in the Richman hotel and somebody called the cops, the cops arrived at the scene actually blocking one of the entrances in a barricade position, they got out of their vehicles one with a pistol and the other with a shotgun and when they finally got to me they ordered me to surrender.

Also this time I got boxed in by a squad of cruisers, I fully stopped my vehicle and an officer gave a handsign to cease fire. He approached the door and then ya'll know the rest.

Plus during combat cops tend to take more cover and take their time to aim at you instead of running 'n' shooting, NOOSE also fastrope in nearby rooftops or land near you while fastroping inst an option. Sometimes they also throw tear gas at you to get you out of a certain spot. I've also seen normal cops actually climb to the otherside of a roof to get a better shoot of me!

The only other AI in any other GTA game that is brutal is the VCPD, f*cking maniacs.
