Help Me Understand In Game Distance lol

Recommended Posts

This is something I honestly don't get: why is everything so small in GTAs? For instance, a trip from LS to Paleto Bay is FIVE MILES. It feels as if it should be like 20. A Bullet going 200+ mph should cover 5 miles in like a minute, yet it takes about 2 in game hours. Two hours to travel 5 miles? I probably sound like an idiot, but I just don't get why in game area is so tiny.

Let's do some math, in the mission where Trevor, Franklin & Lamar, they say driving to Paleto Bay will take 4 Hours, at Highway speed (70 MPH IRL) so that means Paleto Bay is 280 Miles away. So that means 1 GTA mile is 56 IRL miles

Unfortunately the sh*tty hardware of the last gen consoles would not be able to support a 1:1 scale representation of southern California, let alone the time required to model something like that. GTA 6 will be amazing.

I just don't see why the game measurements are so tiny. You would think that from the very south to the very north of the map would be very far considering you're going from city to desert to mountains to a small town. Not the distance between my house and Walmart.

((L*D)+(W/G))/(A^2)

Length times Diameter plus Weight over Girth divided by Angle of the tip squared

That is your adjusted penis size

Do you understand how much time it would take to code something like that? They have to draw every single line of the map by hand first, then onto computer and then keep adding layers and layers and layers. It took them 5 damn years to get the map they have, imagine how long it would take if it was bigger.

The map was made from scratch and is huge. I get it. I'm talking about distance and measurement. From LS to Paleto is only 5 miles, yet feels as if it should be way more. Like Jahgee said, one GTA mile equals 56 real miles if Paleto is four hours away. Eh, I can't put it in right words. Mods, feel free to lock this thread

Not true, not a hardware limit, it's a disc space limit, there have been games with much bigger maps out there but less detail, more detail = more space, Rockstar already hit two discs with GTAV because they split the models/textures and audio/video. I know PC gamers like to sh*t on consoples all the time, but learn what actually was limited due to hardware. Lack of AA, that's a hardware limit, lack of interiors/map size, not a hardware limit.
