DisasterMaster13
A friend let me play a bit of SA on his ipad. The touchscreen controls ruin the game, it feels awkward and makes driving a pain. It sucks because everything else is good especially the checkpoint system but those controls are turning me off from getting the game myself. Why couldn't Rockstar have just made an HD collection for consoles or the Vita, would've been alot better. Rainbow Party
I think porting them to mobile is kind of silly, they should have just made a fully 3D unique exclusive title instead of porting the others to mobile. And yeah, touch screen controls are horrible. I'm playing Chinatown Wars and it's a pain in the butt. If they had made an Hd Collection for vita I would have bought it in a heartbeat but R* derped and released it on mobile for no explainable reason. I hope Ps Now has GTA SA on it so I can play it on the vita. Drunken Cowboy
I mean... they gotta spend a bit of time making it a functioning port and all the old SA fans buy it. A few thousand dollars spent on development, a few more in marketing, and several hundred thousand in sales. Why should they care? I'm not saying this to scold them, I'm just saying it's what any company would do in their shoes. If you can't play with the touchscreen controls (I couldn't even bare GTA III on mobile, San Andreas has to be nightmareish with the f*cking planes) then you don't have ti. tranceking26
You can get controllers that link via wifi to a smartphone. How good they are, I wouldn't know. I always imagined the touch controls to be difficult. I already have the 3D era games on PS2, I don't need them for iPhone :-P Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/687286-touchscreen-controls-awful/#findComment-1064826698 Share on other sites
Rainbow Party
(...) I couldn't even bare GTA III on mobile, San Andreas has to be nightmareish with the f*cking planes (...) Hahah oh my God, the flight school missions, playing them on a touch screen must be so painful. Unless they somehow made a lot of things automatic by just pressing 1 button or something but still. Porting them to the Vita would have made more sense, yeah. At least it's a device designed for actual games. They should stop considering mobile phones/tablets as an actual gaming console, they are only good for casual games with minimal controls. Big masterpieces like GTA games get lost in the transalation to mobile. I can see why maybe someone who played them on PS2 or PC would like to have them on mobile, just for the novelty of it, but for someone who wants to play them for the first time, the mobile ones are really a completely different experience, in a bad way, imo. Even on an ipad with a big screen, it won't feel like the way the game was meant to be played. Chinatown Wars was a good idea (with bad exectuion imo but that's debatable) since it was designed specifically for mobile consoles with touch controls like the DS and phones. I think they should have made another exclusive title with 3D gameplay like GTA3 but with missions and gameplay features that are designed specifically for mobile phone touch screens. Porting the others is just a bad idea. Rockstar Games doesn't get that phones just aren't made for such complex controls, that's why you have a hundred touch buttons on the screen all over the place in the mobile GTAs. Oh and there are some GTA Clones for mobile made by Gameloft, some are called Gangstar. I've played the free demos of almost all of them and they suck as well. You have the option to use tilt controls to steer the cars but it feels like driving drunk and the camera on your character is very awkward. Also the story quality is abysmal. godforgivesthelostdont
touch screen controls will never be as efficient as a controller (aka an entire device dedicated toward user input). but i think GTA: San Andreas is one of the most efficient layouts i've seen on a touch screen.
