I figured out what's missing from GTA 5

I played through GTA 5 and the whole time it felt incomplete.

I couldn't figure out why, until I watched some San Andreas gameplay.

Cheats. Story.

Cheats in this game aren't nearly as fun as San Andreas (flying cheat anyone?)

I also think that the story was let down by the 3 player mechanic, never being able to really connect to any character because they all felt half baked.

The city felt empty, lacking soul. I tried to enjoy it, but Yoga, bike riding and sightseeing felt gimmicky and boring.

I also think GTA 4 had a far better story and more memorable characters. Brucie, Packie, Bernie, Vlad etc.. Same with San Andreas, and I last played that years ago.

I hope GTA 6 isn't as over hyped as GTA 5 was. I think the hype ruined it for me as well. It's all flash and no substance.

You're all entitled to disagree with me as well, just try to be respectful.

Anyways i'll have to disagree with most of the stuff you have there in the propper manner we all know was being respectful, pretty much every GTA has in some way characters that you are not able to forget. The lack of ''fun'' cheats is mostly due to the fact that such behaviors as pedestrians rioting are something not present nor needed.

The city felt alive for me, it had a lot of soul with its vibrant colours, the pedestrians performing daily activities and the conversations amongst them. The city was f'ing beautiful at night with the whole of LS being lit up as Cassidy creek during the dawn. Sorry but I have to disagree with your statement.

Geralt of Rivia

Hype is what people make of it.

As long as the developer doesn't 100% misdirect the game (I'm looking at you, Spore!), then it's probably the consumer's fault.

Now, R* certainly did some misdirections (Franklin's trailer). However, people took most other stuff completely out of whack and speculated like crazy.

Just look at the threads pre-release:

"Every building will be enterable!"

"This is confirmed based off of absolutely nothing!"

And etc.

When you go into a game with ridiculous expectations, you're going to be disappointed.

Well, I understand that 'fun' cheats are not needed, but I think it's a game and therefore supposed to be fun. I don't think it could have costed that much to add pedestrian riots, a bloodring banger, flying cheats and so on.

I'm glad you could enjoy it though.

I feel like the game was less about story and more about gameplay and GTA online.

I agree. I feel like they should have spend more time on the story aspect rather than GTA online, which turned out to be a bit of a disappointment (in my opinion). There were only a handful of actual missions you could do and it became a grind fest. We're also yet to see the promised heists.

In fact I seem to recall heists were supposed to have been released 2 weeks after GTA:O was released.

Still, to it's credit, GTA:O can be good fun with a few friends.

Of course, I do hope it doesn't sound like I'm disagreeing with you, because admitably GTA5 has many faults that can make it's experience lackluster compared to even the earliest GTA's, and there is a LOT to say for the characters, because god I just want to plant a bullet in near ALL of them for one reason or another (we would be here all day if I went over why).

And yeah even if it felt more effort was put into GTAO and even if GTAO is still lacking anyways, GTA5 and GTAO are still good games that are very deserving of any praise they are given.

...of course I'm still not going to play it anymore than I do now simply because the games I already play are so addicting as is...

Cheats being better in SA: My mini-gun spitting out explosive shells in slow motion disagrees with you, OP.

Characters: Drawn as deep as IV if you look. Read their LifeInvader pages throughout the game, have the characters socialise, that sort of thing.

City without soul: the city is beautiful, full of stories if you take the time to walk down a street once in a while.

What's missing to me the most is the middle income group in the game. All you see are the rich people's houses in uptown and the ghetto and industrial estate in the southside. You don't see the normal suburban neighborhoods which SoCal is known for. Idk. I kinda feel that R* has overdone it in terms of satirizing the difference between the rich and the poor. Almost completely leaving out the middle income group in the process.

Actually, in San Andreas, you could have a minigun and go in slowmo. As for explosives, you had heat seeking missiles and an rpg which if you enabled a cheat, fired fairly rapidly without reloading. Where's pedestrian riots, flying car cheat or anything that's really worth it? Even the invincibility has a cap on it and you need to re-enter it every 5 mins.

As for the characters, I'm inclined to disagree. In IV, remember Elizabeta's slow downfall? Or the heartbreaking ending? Niko develops as a character which I don't think really happens in GTAV. In GTAV, their identities are set, and they just remain stagnant through the game. I cannot remember how many conversations went along the lines of: "I mourned you" "I'm a gangster that is also not a gangster" "I try to be a good father but I keep on doing things like kill my children's friends". Lifeinvader pages... yeah, adds some small amount of depth but it cannot compare to seeing a character change as you play.

Also I did take a walk down the street. I rode in the sightseers bus and I met the zombie. It all felt boring to me, sorry. They had a chance to make some interesting characters into great characters but failed in that. EG: The kook that makes you pick up the 50 spaceship parts could have been a bigger part, and been sort of like jethro.

I remember in San Andreas digging my own grave while Tenpenny looked on and laughed. I remember getting into big smokes car and turning on the flying cheat and pretending to be in ronald weasleys ford. I just don't have any great memories from the game. The whole playthrough was just so so and not memorable for me.

I dunno call me crazy but even with it`s many tiny faults GTA V and Online is still IMO one of the best GTA games ever made. How many games can have so many faults yet still retain an almost full score? One that`s how many and that is only GTA V,

Guy saying a game with many flaws can keep a full score. Sure it can but when it matters ( GOTY ) it can't do anything. It got outmatched by almost 100 more GOTY awards.

TLOU: 241

GTA V: 157

Bioshock: 40

Those are the top three.

At least try to be respectful.

Oh, it's not an opinion to him, though. It's a fact to him.

Which is why I tell him not to start. He's trying to troll right now. I'm trying to stop it before it starts.

Opinions, they're great aren't they.

I agree with ViceCityStalker, GTA V is the best game I ever played and it's my personal GOTY.

@OP: When it comes to cheats, I'm like Yolo Swaggins, I only want the riot cheat back, and mabye flying cars. As for story, story had to be sacrificed for gameplay (afterall, gameplay is the most important aspect of a game), the 3 character mechanic made gameplay better as it was a major contribution to how varied and fun the missions were.

Giving out a award is a opinion? Interesting cause its a fact they got something. Which is the title GOTY.

It may be your personal GOTY but it isn't THE GOTY.

How can you guys not approve of this? Cheats codes are what made boring games into incredible games. These days you cant even put in cheat code without not having the ability to save or blocking your achievements/trophies. Bring back the old days of cheating. The story in terms was good for me, especially Franklin's missions.

Yes, giving out an award is an opinion. How the f*ck do you think they choose which game to give the award to?

Literally every GOTY award is an opinion. There is not an ounce of fact in anything.

If you fail to see this, you are literally too stupid to Internet.

If it was opinion than every game in 2013 would be on that list which isn't true. Nice try but try again.

TLOU: 241 GOTY awards which is a fact.

GTA V: 157 GOTY awards which is a fact.

Your personal GOTY award is a opinion cause your opinion doesn't count just like mine. Its our opinion. These are facts.

What he means to say is that every rating and award is given out by opinion whether it be collective or singular. Therefore (by his logic) you cannot use this as irrefutable fact/evidence to argue a point.

Also, could you please link the page you got that off? I'm curious to check it out.
