It also looks like they want to run a third entry for the 500. My guess will be Waltrip.

BK Racing did buy a bunch of MWR's old cars and Waltrip did take part in the Toyota Racing photo shoot during the Media Tour last week so it makes sense.

JD Motorsports has announced their driver lineup for the Xfinity Series Season -

#01 - Ryan Preece

#0 - Eric McClure joins the team from TriStar Motorsports and will drive the car at Daytona, and they are looking for sponsors/drivers for the other races

#4 - Ross Chastain returns to the team once again this year.

- All Truck series races will be on FS1 except of the fall Talladega race which will air on FOX, and if any get rain delayed they could move to FS2.

The major changes happen in both the Xfinity Series and the Cup Series -

- For the Xfinity Series, the Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen has been moved to CNBC, and then the race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and the Food City 300 at Bristol have been moved to USA Network.

- For the Sprint Cup Series the Cheez-It 350 @The Glen has been moved to USA Network.

here are all three series TV schedules -

USA? Interesting. I don't mind that, as I actually have USA. It's all the FS1s and NBCSNs I don't like.

But wow, a Truck race on FOX? That's gotta be the first race in almost 10 years not on SPEED/FS1 if I'm not mistaken. Looking forward to that.

they have done the Talladega truck race on FOX for the last two or three years now, and few years before that they were airing the Martinsville spring race and one other spring race on FOX as well.

and USA Network is part of the NBC contract, and races can get moved there if they have some other live coverage going on on both CNBC and NBCSN if they get rain delayed.

GoFasRacing just shared on Reddit Jeffrey Earnhardt's new CorvetteParts.Net paint scheme. I've never liked the number font that GFR uses.

fTI75WZ.jpg

EDIT: Well would you look at this! Penske finally gave the 22 a new scheme. I hate Logano, but it's a decent looking scheme. Too bad it seems like it's just a part time scheme though, since it only debuts at the Vegas race.

yep that is the standalone Pennzoil car that usually only runs at Las Vegas and Charlotte. They still are going to be running the same, old Shell/Pennzoil car that they have run since 2011 with Kurt Busch.

the NASCAR Hall of Fame has announced that legendary MRN radio broadcaster, Barney Hall has died.

well the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona is close to starting (2:40pm eastern) on FS1 and on IMSA.com - http://www.imsa.com/camera/imsatv

got NASCAR drivers and spotters taking part it it -

- as already said Jamie McMurray and Kyle Larson are driving the #02 Ford Daytona Prototype with Tony Kanaan and Scott Dixon for Ganassi. Edit: Larson just tweeted that he won't be in the car until around 11pm eastern.

- A.J. Allmendinger is one of the drivers for Michael Shank Racing's #60 prototype

- Brendan Gaughan is one of five drivers in one of Bar1 Motorsports cars.

- Justin Marks (drives some of the road courses in NASCAR) is driving one of the Lamborghini's for Change Racing which is co-owned by former NASCAR team owner Robby Benton (RAB Racing)

this is the list of NASCAR spotters that are spotting for teams in the Rolex 24 -

2NTQK3z.png

EDIT: THE RACE IS UNDERWAY (2:40PM EASTERN)

edit: two more NASCAR drivers racing in the Rolex 24 - Road Course Specialist Boris Said and Road Course Specialist Kenny Habul are co-driving one of the Audi's in the GTD (GT Daytona) class. Habul owns the sponsor of the car - Sun Energy1

edit3: trouble for the #67 Ford GT driven by Ryan Briscoe, they are way off the pace and almost got rear ended by Jan Magnussen in one of the factory Corvettes. edit: sounds like the car is stuck in gear and based on what Briscoe just said on the radio it's showing it as changing on the display in the car but it is not actually changing gears.

now the #70 Prototype is stopped on track, and full course yellow. wow, when he slowed Joao Barbosa in the #5 Corvette DP nearly rear ended him like Magnussen almost did to Briscoe.

EDIT: (6:30PM EST) Huge crash in turn 1. There was a car stopped in the middle of the track and race control decided to only throw a local yellow and the #00 DeltaWing driven by Sean Rayhall slammed into him. Full course yellow was finally put out after the wreck. Katherine Legge put up the fastest lap in practice in the DeltaWing so that was one fast car that just got wrecked because of race control not being smart.

.gif of the wreck here - https://twitter.com/NickBromberg/status/693576299177062400

edit: (11:52am EST) - Big wreck for Kyle Larson. Went straight off the track in to the tires, full course caution.

Edited by kk9fan97

well the Rolex 24 is over.

none of the NASCAR drivers won, but Brendan Gaughan ended up on the podium in his class. Max Angelelli, one of the drivers of the #10 Corvette Prototype has been transported to the local hospital according to IMSA. One of his co-drivers, Jordan Taylor had to get out of the car with about 30 minutes left and was complaining about a strange smell/fumes in the car so that probably has to do with what is going on with Angelelli.

the #02 Ford Daytona Prototype that McMurray and Larson were driving ended up in the tires with Larson driving with around 4 hours to go after having brake problems for most of the race. McMurray also spun out on a restart overnight.

The #60 Honda - Liger Prototype that Allemendinger was involved in a collision entering the bus stop chicane on the backstretch on one of the restarts over night and got not damage from that but later on during the night they suffered an engine failure and did not finish the race.

Former NASCAR driver Andy Lally was part of the GT Daytona class winning team.

 its going to be odd not seeing Jeff Gordon in the #24 :panic:

It's gonna be weird seing the 24 car on a regular basis without flames on the scheme. It feels like the end of an era. It's gonna be super weird seeing him in the booth. I'm sure it'll take a while to get used to.

I wish Penske would use a f*cking different template for their paint schemes, most of their schemes are the same just with different colors. I like when the schemes are similar, but this specific layout that they use is hideous. But anyway here's Brad's SKF car which I believe will be run in the Unlimited:

CaIzpfcWkAADFDh.jpg

Now this is a beautiful car. I love Bowyer's schemes this year. I mostly love this number font better than MWR's.

I'm not bothered by the lack of flames. The last few years Gordon hasn't had flames that often himself, with the AARP and 3M and other liveries only like half the races (if that) had any find of flames. The part that will be hard for me is the second half of the year when Gordon won't even be broadcasting. He won't have any part of the race weekend like he does with FOX right now. That will be the part I will find harder to watch, since there isn't much attracting me to NASCAR now that Gordon is retired.

Road Course Specialist Kenny Habul has joined the all-star driver lineup for JR Motorsports #88 car in the Xfinity Series. He is going to drive the car at the three road course races - Watkins Glen, Mid-Ohio and Road America. The company he owns, Sun Energy1 might also end up being the primary sponsor on the #24 car driven by Chase Elliott in the Cup Series -

Smoke can never seem to catch a break. At least it doesn't seem too bad. Let's hope he'll be better in time for the Unlimited.

EDIT: Looks like poor Cole Whitt is gonna be in Premium's 98 car. Oh well I guess it's better than nothing. Maybe with Hillman's support, and if Cole can bring his Speed Stick sponsorship, maybe just maybe the team could be decent.

If Cole Whitt is driving the #98 then I am wondering what was Premium Motorsports talking about when they said they were going to run the Sprint Unlimited? They probably got at least some of Hillman Mototsports old equipment in the merger (CircleSport was working with Hillman so they might have ended up with it too) but Premium Motorsports still did horrible with the old RCR equipment they got when Brian Scott and Brendan Gaughan drove the #62 last year.

I don't know what they were talking about. There weren't any free agents that were eligible to run that they could've put in the car.

GoFasRacing announced on Reddit that they'll be unveiling Jeffrey Earnhardt's NEW Can-Am paint scheme tomorrow at 3PM ET.. So I guess they won't be using this one:

There actually is one free agent driver that is eligible - David Gilliland. He is eligible because he is a previous Daytona 500 pole winner. People were talking about him possibly being the driver for Premium Motorsports when they said the thing about running in the Sprint Unlimited.

I'd say Gilly goes to the Truck Series. Either that or he runs the 62/66 part time.

Well here it is, Labonte's and Earnhardt's Can-Am scheme. Meh, I liked the old one better, this one seems too busy. That's the problem with a lot of GFR's schemes, there's too much going on. Plus this ugly font doesn't help either.

F*ck yeah, Morgan Shepherd will continue driving this season, attempting the Daytona Xfinity race, 74 years old and still going strong.

Once Tony retires (if he even competes, heard he may be out the whole season) it's going to be very hard for me to watch anymore. He's the last of the drivers I grew up watching (becoming a fan in the late 90's). I don't know why, but I just can't see myself rooting for these new guys (Chase, Larson, Logano, Brad, etc).

I feel bad for the Stewart fans who bought tickets for the 500, hoping to see their driver finally win the big race in his final try. That is if he's not back in the car by then. I like the younger crowd (minus Joey, Erik Jones and Ty Dillon), they remind me of the older drivers. For example Larson reminds me of a young Gordon.

Greg Biffle has confirmed that he was in the same area as Tony Stewart when the accident happened but did not see it happen and has not talked to Stewart -

I was just gonna post the Stewart thing, but you already did. He has had so much happen to him in the past 2 and a half the years, both on and off the track, it's heartbreaking.

Now it's time to think about possible replacement drivers. Bowman? Klingerman? Custer? Sadler? Allgaier? I'm trying to think of drivers that have ties to HMS/SHR/JRM, minus Klingerman. So many good possibilities.

According to the team release, Stewart suffered a burst fracture of the L1 vertebra in the Sunday afternoon accident on the West Coast. Stewart was transported to a local hospital and evaluated. Stewart flew back to North Carolina on Tuesday night and was admitted to a Charlotte-area hospital for further evaluation and underwent surgery on Wednesday, according to the team.

Welp, that's a real bummer. I really hate to see Stewart go out that way. I hope he can make a speedy recovery and have at least a little success to see out his last year. All his extracurricular activities always seem to get the best of him...

Custer has no experience in Xfinity or Cup so I can't see it being him. I don't see it being Kligerman either because of the sponsorship. He is being sponsored by Valvoline in the Truck's and the #14 has Mobil 1 for a sponsor. Sadler and Allgaier both have that sponsorship issue as well with both of them having Valvoline as sponsor. So they would need to get the ok from both sides for it to happen.

they would be best to go with a more veteran driver. Had Tommy Baldwin Racing not kicked Bowman to the curb and hired Regan Smith, Smith would no doubt be the substitute driver.

Ty Dillon could be a good candidate since both Stewart and Dillon are sponsored by Bass Pro Shops and RCR had allowed Austin Dillon to drive Stewart's car in a couple of races back in 2013. I could even see Alex Bowman possibly being the driver.

Edit: Bob Pockrass just reported on his Twitter page that BK Racing has confirmed that they will be running 3 cars at Daytona.

#23 David Ragan, #83 Matt DiBennedetto, and Michael Waltrip is going to drive the third car (likely #26).

Edited by kk9fan97
theGTAking101

It'll probably either be Bowman or Dillon. Ty already has a ride for the 500, but I'm sure he'd be more than happy to move to a better ride for a few races.

I'm still going with Bowman, since he has no ride and is already affiliated with JRM, which is like a "cousin" team to SHR, however you want to say it. I agree that if Smith wasn't in the 7, he'd definitely be the replacement.

slight change on the BK Racing news. Ragan is going to be in the #23, Michael Waltrip is going to be in the #83 (Dibennedetto's usual number) and they going to run Dibennedetto in a third car (probably #26, #73 or #93).

Maxwell House is going to be primary sponsor on Waltrip's car.

I wonder how many teams are gonna show up at Daytona. Last year it was 49, and this year there are 38 full time teams so far according to Jayski. I wonder how many part time teams will show up. The second LFR car (if Dillon doesn't take the #14) makes 39. The third BK car makes 40.

I miss the days of say 2007 when there were 61 entries for the 500.
