Holy 1 year bump, but hey it's better than starting a whole new topic.

Is anyone else on this forum watching the races? Who are you keeping an eye on? What are your predictions for the final 10 races?

I know this is a month and a half later but....

I am still watching the races and all I know is it is fully out of control with everything that has gone on the last few weeks, and if I had to guess Logano, Kyle Busch, and Truex will be joining Gordon in the final four at Homestead, and I would like to see Gordon take it all at Homestead.

the only obvious thing is NASCAR and race control have lost all control over what is going on, on the track with everything that has gone on with the restarts (no call on Gordon jumping it by a mile at Chicagoland and then penalizing Keselowski for barely jumping it and not gaining anything at New Hampshire), and changing the rules in the middle of the race (Talladega when they called the first and only attempt at the G-W-C a non-attempt when the flagger was waving the green flag and the green lights were on, when Johnson, Kahne, Larson, and couple of others got wrecked by Stenhouse, which then led to Harvick wrecking basically the entire field on the next and last attempt so he would not be eliminated) and now the Kenseth and Logano feud that has gone on for three races now.

no matter what NASCAR does or does not do in response to the Logano-Kenseth crash this weekend they will look bad no matter what - they would be hypocrites if they penalize him (because of the no calls on Logano at Kansas, Harvick at Talladega and if they don't to anything to Danica for intentionally wrecking David Gilliland this past weekend after saying multiple times on the radio that she was going to do it), and if they don't they basically send a message to all the drivers saying it's ok for a lapped car to intentionally wreck the leader.

and lastly, Logano did have it coming how dumb he has been racing the last few weeks, and it was about time that someone finally got him back.

Everything at Talladega last week really angered me, mainly cause I can't stand Logano. He really deserved what he got at Martinsville, he's angered so many people recently.

I'm so happy Gordon won. Since Jr. got screwed out of a chase spot by Harvick & NASCAR last week, now I'm pulling for Jeff to have a fairytale ending to his career.

I don't think I have ever been as confused after a race like I was after Talladega, and that alone made me mad. lol. I was actually more mad at NASCAR than I was at Harvick for that mess. Had they not decided to change the rules in the middle of the race like they did, and actually called the first attempt as the actual attempt, the rest of that stuff would have never happened.

I have not liked Logano ever since he decided that it would be smart to wreck Denny Hamlin at Fontana in 2013

I am a Kasey Kahne fan, which is why I am sticking with Hendrick and like you pulling for Gordon to take it all.

That one green-white-checkered rule made absolutely no sense, I don't see how that would make the races any safer, which was their goal. It was just stupid.

I loved Logano when he raced for Joe Gibbs, but when he switched to Penske, I noticed what an arrogant, whiny, dirty snob he is.

well NASCAR hit both Matt Kenseth and Danica Patrick with penalties

- Kenseth has been suspended for 2 races, and has been placed on NASCAR Probation for the next 6 months. Joe Gibbs Racing announced that they are going to appeal the suspension and probation, saying the penalties are inconsistent with previous instances for similar on-track incidents (I have a feeling that they are talking about the Jeff Gordon - Clint Bowyer incident at Phoenix where Gordon intentionally wrecked Bowyer and NASCAR only hit Gordon with points and money fines and probation)

- Danica Patrick has been fined $50,000, 25 driver points and has been placed on NASCAR probation until December 31st for intentionally wrecking David Gilliland

Suspending Kenseth is the wrong call and now NASCAR looks like a bunch of hypocrites and has lost a lot of credibility with the lack of penalties on Harvick for wrecking the entire field at Talladega. Same with the no penalties for Logano intentionally dumping Kenseth at Kansas, heck what Keselowski did at Charlotte last year was 10 times worse than what Kenseth did to Logano, and all Keselowski got was basically a slap on the wrist. It once again shows how inconsistent NASCAR is with the penalties.

edit: sounds like if Kenseth/JGR lose the appeal, then Erik Jones will drive the #20 in the two races.

Honestly Talladega was one of the worst races I have seen in a while, because of the general sh*tfest it was. It started with the rule of only one GWC, which is honestly dumb at a track like Talladega. I know they said it was for security purposes but if NASCAR really cared about the general security they would've blackflagged Harvick. He clearly couldn't keep up with the rest of the field and they knew he was having engine problems. But of course they let him stay out on the track, he took out half of the field and secured his position in the next round. No penalty.

And now this crap with Matt Kenseth and Logano. I don't blame Matt Kenseth for taking out Logano, after what happened at Kansas, and even at Talladega when they were turning on to pit road. Hell, even Keselowski took out out Matt Kenseth at Martinsville and it looked like all of Penske was out to get him. And he gets penalized but Harvick doesn't. Makes no sense at all.

To me the thing that annoyed me the most was that three cars who would make the chase much more interesting (Jr, Hamlin and Kenseth) were all eliminated because of NASCAR's poor judgment. Oh well, I'm rooting for Jeff Gordon to win the chase this year so he can end his career on a good note.

Brian France needs to leave, he's ruining everything. The only thing this chase format is good for is drama and action. Consistency doesn't mean sh*t anymore when you have a driver that was mediocre all year (Gordon) has a chance at a championship because he did good in the final few races. I'm still rooting for him though. Don;t even get me started on the Kyle Busch thing, misses a good portion of the season and still manages to have a shot at the championship. Don't get me wrong though, he's been on fire ever since his return. Then guys like Johnson, Earnhardt, Kenseth & Hamlin who were good all year get eliminated early.

This video shows exactly what is wrong with the Kenseth/Logano incident. Ricky Craven should become NASCAR's new CEO, the guy knows what he's talking about and isn't afraid to call NASCAR out on their BS.

I must say Ricky Craven is the man, he said it all.

I just got done watching Radioactive from Race Hub, and Scan all 43 from NASCAR America and some of the reactions to the Kenseth-Logano wreck were hilarious.

the way some of them reacted just shows how fed up a lot of people are with how Logano has been driving.

also, Kenseth's appeal is going to be heard tomorrow.

Really had to laugh at Knaus' and Stewart's reactions. It was funny how they described it as being "awesome". Haha.

Denny Hamlin also made a good point. NASCAR has really gotten out of control these past few weeks and it's sad to see what it' turning into.

I thought Junior's reaction was quite funny myself, his accent puts it over the top. "THAT LOOKED LIKE IT HURT! Hell I've heard of wrecking a guy but not giving everybody a (expletive) headache." I have laughed everything I have listened to that.

I am surprised that they did not fine Kyle Busch or Denny Hamlin for their comments, I mean they fined Hamlin a couple of years ago for saying that the Gen6 car was a work in progress and the stuff they have said the last couple of weeks (Busch said NASCAR penalizes drivers based on their names) and Hamlin with the stuff he has said the last couple of weeks in interviews and on twitter) has been a lot worse as far as NASCAR goes.

the only thing that I could see helping in the long run, is maybe some changes to race control, because a lot of the issues have begun because of stuff that race control has done and not done. Just look at IndyCar if you want to see what changing it up in race control can do. Brian Barnhart basically got kicked out as race director after the 2011 season where there was a lot of bad calls, and when the new people came in, IndyCar improved a ton. Yes Barnhart is back in race control now, but any possible in-race penalties are decided between three different people.

the officials in race control in the Cup Series have been the same for quite some time now, and like I said, some change might be good.

Matt Kenseth's 2 race suspension has been upheld by the National Motorsports Appeals Panel. He is now going to appeal to the Chief Appellate Officer and that appeal will be starting in a half hour.

Edit: been a bad week for team haulers. Richard Petty Motorsports' Xfinity Series hauler was involved in a crash yesterday (everyone and everything was fine they just needed a replacement truck) and now today the hauler for Michael Annett's #46 team caught on fire.

An interesting stat I found on NASCAR's subreddit. Since Matt Kenseth can't race next week, once next season starts, he won't take over the highest consecutive starts streak among active drivers after Gordon retires like he would've if he didn't miss those 2 races this year.

It's also surprising that this means that no driver would've ran in every race since 2001. There are people like Stewart and Jr. who have started racing full time before then, but they've both missed races in recent years due to injuries, ending their streaks.

Also Gordon is the last remaining driver who raced throughout the majority of the 90s, now it's mostly new kids coming in.

Matt Kenseth's suspension has been upheld by the Chief Appellate Officer. Erik Jones will drive the #20 this weekend at Texas.

HScott Motorsports' #46 team hauler went up into flames on the way to Texas today. No one was hurt, but both the primary and backup cars along with other equipment were destroyed. They are sending new cars and equipment to the track in a backup hauler. Here is some photos from HScott Motorsports, NBCSN, and KLTV of the fire -

lot of tire problems and they are not even to lap 100 yet. Logano, Harvick, Blaney, and Junior all with tire problems, and it's crazy how much damage was done to Logano's car when his left rear tire blew out. Not sure what happened to Hamlin, but he has been in the garage twice.

and now another tire problem, this time Kyle Larson, and he has damage. Logano, Harvick and Larson all have had left rear tires go flat, and it was the right front on Junior and Blaney's cars that went flat, and by no surprise Goodyear is placing all the blame on the tire problems on the teams.

Edited by kk9fan97

Goodyear is pathetic. Always so many tire problems and they never try to fix it. Also it seems that Jr. has a tire problem every week now. It's crazy how he came up through the pack back into the top 10.

Harvick did the same thing when he got his flat tire. He flew through the field.

and now Newman with a flat left rear tire, and possibly some damage.

edit: how Junior has not wrecked I do not understand. that car is absolutely out of control, wrecking loose. edit: and he just spun out. crazy how many laps he went held on to it before finally spinning out.

now Trevor Bayne with a flat right rear tire.

Apparently, the race at Homestead-Miami will be Jeff Gordons last, at least as a full time driver. Wonder if he can get a fifth title? It was a while ago since he won his last title. He should have won in 2007 but Jimme won instead.

As a Jr. fan I'm rooting for Gordon to win the championship. He should actually have 7 championships, but the chase f*cked him over in 2004, 2007 & 2014.

But if it can't be Gordon, I'll be rooting for Truex. It's amazing how much the single car team accomplished this year.

Kyle, even though he missed quite a few races, you can't say that he didn't drive his heart out this year.

And now Kevin, just no. I'll be fine with anyone in the final 4 but him. F*ck that guy.

He pretty much confirmed that is going to be his final start. If he were to decide to run some more races it would not be able to take place with Hendrick Motorsports, because of the car limit.

Each team can only run 4 full time cars with a 5th part time car for a single rookie with less than 7 starts. Hendrick as usual will have 4 full time cars next season with Chase Elliott in #24 joining Kasey Kahne, Johnson and Earnhardt, Jr.. Gordon is obviously not a rookie either.

If you have not heard, Jeff is going join Mike Joy and Darrell Waltrip in the FOX Sports/FS1 booth for the first half of the Cup Series schedule. (Larry McReynolds is still going to be part of the race coverage, just in a different position)

He has a pretty good shot at the championship if they can get the setup in car good for the race. He struggled in practice, but was flying in qualifying and out of the other 3 remaining chase drivers he was second fastest.

Hopefully the rain holds off long enough for them to get both the Xfinity Series and Cup Series races in.

Edit: I was really happy to hear the news that the #21 Wood Brothers Racing team is coming back to full time competition next season with Ryan Blaney as driver and Motorcraft/Quick Lane as sponsor. It's been a long time coming and with how talented Blaney is I would not be surprised at all if they win a race or two next year and make the Chase.

well Kyle Busch has done the impossible. Won the title after missing 11 races with the broken leg and foot. Brett Moffitt has won the Sunoco Rookie of the Year award (beat BK Racing drivers Matt Dibennedetto and Jeb Burton).

hard to believe that the season is already over.

theGTAking101

I think this here proves how much of a joke this chase format is. You miss a third of the season and still win the championship. I'm still pretty happy for Kyle though.

I'm proud of Jeff for what an amazing career he's had. Sad to see it come to an end, but I can't wait to see what Chase can do next year. He has some pretty big shoes to fill, but I think he'll do alright. Also excited to see Jeff in the booth, I think he did a good job when he commentated that Xfinity race earlier in the season.

I'm mad that Jr. got caught up in someone else's wreck, Bowyer always seems to mess something up. It was also quite a tough final race for MWR, both cars got taken out in the crash. I'm interested to see what Clint can to at HScott next year.

It's gonna be a long off-season, but I'm looking forward to all the changes for next year. I found a lot of the racing to be boring this year, and I'm looking forward to what the new rules package can offer.

I'd like to keep this thread alive, perhaps we can post whenever a major team change or other big news story is announced. Plus we can post some new paint schemes when they're announced, cause I'm liking the ones that have been revealed so far, especially Dale's new scheme, and Chase's.

I am waiting on Axalta to finally allow Dale Jr. to unveil their scheme for next year. It was supposed to happen at Texas and Axalta for some reason chose to push it off. On twitter Junior made reference when talking about it to a car he ran back in the early 2000's that was red, orange, and yellow, which has led people to suspect his Axalta car might be based off of this car -

8junior1_zpsblo8c3st.jpg

there has also been some changes already announced and reported for the 2016 season.

- Target Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates announced that Chris Heroy is out as crew chief for Kyle Larson, and Chad Johnston is in

- Johnston is out as crew chief for Tony Stewart, and sources are telling Lee Spencer of Motorsport.com the engineer from the #4 car, Mike Bugarewicz will take over as crew chief on the #14 for Stewart's final season. - I was kind of hoping that they would have Greg Zipadelli be his crew chief for his final season.

- Sources are also telling Motorsport.com that Daniel Knost is out as crew chief on the #10 car, and that former Michael Waltrip Racing #15 crew chief will take over as crew chief for Danica.

- It has also been reported by Motorsport.com that former MWR #55 crew chief Brian Pattie will be Greg Biffle's crew chief next season (I heard Biffle being interviewed on Sirius/XM NASCAR Radio the other night (it was a re-air of the interview from after Phoenix) and when asked, he would not confirm or deny that Pattie will be his crew chief - he said no one has told him anything, so he did not know - but did confirm that there will be some big changes at Roush-Fenway during the off-season). Also to go along with that, Ortho confirmed that they will not be returning as one of Biffle's sponsors next season.

edit: it was just announced that for the second straight year Chase Elliott has won the Xfinity Series Most Popular Driver award.

edit2: John Hunter Nemechek has won the Camping World Truck Series Most Popular Driver award.

I guess Jr.'s Axalta scheme is supposed to be revealed around the champion's week/awards banquet/whatever it's called. I'm so excited for that.

I was excited when I saw the article about Stewart's new crew chief, only to be disappointed to see it wasn't Zippy. I'm also concerned about the Johnston and Larson pairing, cause he wasn't the best when he was with Tony.

Biffle losing Ortho could be big, cause he and Stenhouse were already running a good few races unsponsored this year. Roush's Xfinity team is in great shape, but their Cup team has been falling apart ever since Kenseth and Edwards left.

I'm hoping Jr. wins Most Popular Driver yet again, but it could be close between him and Jeff this year.

I think Junior will win it, the only way he would not have was if he did what Bill Elliott did in 2001 by pulling his name out of the running and told the fans to vote for Jeff instead (Bill told the fans to vote for Earnhardt, Sr.).

Roush has been on a downward spiral for the last few years. Even when Kenseth was still driving for them, they were running without sponsorship for a lot of the races on all three of the cars at the time. Even in the Xfinity Series this year, they ran a bunch of races on both the #6 and #60 cars without sponsorship. The loss of Ortho as sponsor on the #16 is huge and if recent history says anything, they are going to have trouble filling those open races with sponsorship.

the bad luck continues for NASCAR Haulers. On the way back from Homestead-Miami the hauler for Casey Mears crashed into a ditch - http://www.foxsports.com/nascar/shake-and-bake/germain-racing-homestead-wreck-hauler-rough-weekend-only-got-rougher-112415

also sources are telling Motorsport.com that Xfinity Series driver Dakota Armstrong will not return to Richard Petty Motorsports next season. Richard Petty also announced a couple of weeks ago that Sam Hornish, Jr. is not returning to the #9 car next season.

theGTAking101

About the 9 car. Everyone was hoping that Regan Smith would take it, but apparently Petty wants someone who can bring in sponsorship. I can't blame him, cause the whole 9 team was a mess this year in terms of sponsors.

I also wonder where this leaves David Ragan, cause I doubt he'd be returning to Front Row. There aren't really any places for him to go. I'm afraid he might end up in a BK Racing car, or even to the Xfinity series.

David Ragan already said that he is not going to go back to Front Row Motorsports and according to rumors he is the leading candidate to take over the #9 car next year.

Matt Dibennedetto said he expects to return to BK Racing next season, and I would not be surprised to see Yeley return as well.

Front Row Motorsports is apparently dropping down to 2 teams and there has not been any word on which team they might be dropping. Also their general manager said they might be changing manufacturers during the off-season, possibly to Chevy and entering an alliance with RCR. There was also mention of Brian Scott driving one of the cars with his one of his family owned companies/franchise as sponsor (Shore Lodge, Whitetail, and/or Albertsons).

theGTAking101

If one of the FRM teams were to be axed, my bet is on Gilliland. His contract is up and he was lower in points than Whitt. But it could also be the 34 team, since they were lowest in points. But I'd say that's mainly because the 34's owner's points were transferred to the 35.

I also heard that BK Racing was looking to have an alliance with JGR, but that seams like a pretty big leap for a team that small. They still have far to go, and I can't see them going anywhere with their current driver lineup. DiBennedetto has potential, but Yeley and Burton haven't shown anything special.

I don't like how Furniture Row is switching to Toyota, seeing as how good they did this year with the RCR alliance. But seeing how dominant JGR has been the 2nd half of the season, it shouldn't be that bad.
I was hoping that Brian Scott would take over FRR's eventual 2nd team they were talking about, but the switch to Toyota throws that out the window.
