kk9fan97
The crazy stuff for Hendrick Motorsports continues. Just like Kasey Kahne in qualifying at Phoenix, the ECU in Jimmie Johnson's car appears to have gone into protection mode and caused the engine to run in reverse. edit: Sounds lk Johnson was able to shut off the engine before it sustained damage. So Johnson's steering wheel comes off during qualifying at Phoenix, then Kahne has his issue with the ECU going into protection mode, then last week Junior's steering wheel came off and now Johnson has the same issue as Kahne. It's becoming a pattern... theGTAking101
Crazy stuff going on. So here is the new All-Star Race format, apparently it was Keselowski's idea: Sprint Showdown 2 20 lap segments, then 1 final 10 lap segment. Winner of each segment advances to All-Star Race plus the fan vote. Mandatory pit stop (at least 2 tires) between each segment. All-Star Race 3 segments of 50 laps, 50 laps, and 13 laps. The starting order for the final segment will be determined following a random draw that decides if the top running 9, 10 or 11 cars have to pit for a mandatory four-tire stop between Segment 2 and Segment 3. Pit road will be closed for all other cars, and those for which pit stops were mandated must resume position for the final sprint, lining up behind the cars that did not pit -- creating an unpredictable, no-holds-barred rush to the checkered flag and All-Star history. kk9fan97
dumbest thing ever. You are going to have drivers sandbagging, trying to run 12th place knowing that after the pit stops you will be leader with at the very least 11 cars between you and the first car on new tires. No way the cars with fresh tires are going to be able to pass that many cars and get back to the front in 13 laps. I wish they still had the showdown format from a few years ago where the top two at the end were the ones to advance. I don't like the whole segments thing. theGTAking101
So who is everyone voting for in the All-Star Race? I was gonna vote for Larson, but I'm starting to hop on the Matt DiBurrito (DiBenedetto) train. I loved his 6th place run at Bristol and his interview afterwards. I also find it cool that he uses the NASCAR subreddit and talks to his fans. If he does get voted in, he'll be changing the name on his car to DiBurrito for the rest of the season, and he will also run this Reddit car that a fan designed. I'm loving all the throwback schemes so far. There's too many to post, so here's an album I found with all of them. Ex Hellraiser
So what was the considered the norm not even 3 races ago now results in a suspension? Oh NASCAR, you flip flop your views more often than politicians (implying NASCAR isn't already run by politicians anyway lol)... I already voted for Dibenedetto. I've always liked him while he moved up the ranks. I was really excited to see him get a full time cup ride. His Bristol finish was amazing, and I see so much more humanity in him than most athletes. He's a lot more humble and relatable to us race fans than most other drivers. He definitely has a fan in me lol. theGTAking101 1 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/685288-official-nascar-thread/page/20/#findComment-1068767487 Share on other sites
kk9fan97
Joe Gibbs Racing is changing the number on Kyle Busch's cup car for the All-Star race, sort of like what Hendrick Motorsports did with Jimmie Johnson and Mark Martin in 2011 (Johnson swapped from #48 to #5, and Martin swapped from #5 to #25 in the All-Star race) They posted this picture on their facebook page and said the number will be announced today on the M&M's Racing facebook page- Seeing as it is the 75th Anniversary of M&M's it's a pretty good bet that the number on the car will be 75. edit: confirmed, Busch will be #75 - Edited May 13, 2016 by kk9fan97 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/685288-official-nascar-thread/page/20/#findComment-1068767841 Share on other sites
kk9fan97
Not NASCAR, but related - Team Penske is on a roll in the Verizon IndyCar Series. #22 Simon Pagenaud has now won the last three races - Streets of Long Beach, Barber Motosports Park, and the Indianapolis Grand Prix. His teammate Helio Castroneves finished 2nd. there was some more inconsistency from NASCAR today. They black flagged Elliott Sadler at the beginning of the second heat race for beating the pole sitter, Daniel Suarez to the line even through he was being pushed by the car behind him and could do nothing about it. They penalized him for beating Suarez to the line by an inch, but a couple of years ago did nothing when Kyle Busch beat pole sitter Kasey Kahne to the line by a mile in the first Xfinity Series race at Indianapolis.... They really need to consider doing what IndyCar did a couple of years ago and clear out race control. It did wonders for IndyCar and could do the same for NASCAR. kk9fan97
HUGE WRECK ON THE RESTART.... The race was immediately red flagged INVOVED (23 cars) (FS1 is saying 18 cars, but based on video and twitter it's actually at least 23 cars that made some type of contact) : - #1 Jamie McMurray - #4 Kevin Harvick - #6 Trevor Bayne - #10 Danica Patrick - #11 Denny Hamlin - #13 Casey Mears - #15 Clint Bowyer - #16 Greg Biffle - #17 Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. - #18 Kyle Busch - #22 Joey Logano - #23 David Ragan - #24 Chase Elliott - #27 Paul Menard - #31 Ryan Newman - #42 Kyle Larson - #43 Aric Almirola - #47 A.J. Allmendinger - #48 Jimmie Johnson - #88 Dale Earnhardt, Jr. - #95 Michael McDowell so both Ganassi cars, two Stewart-Haas cars, two Childress cars, three of the four Hendrick Motorsports cars and all three Roush-Fenway cars inolved Looks like Junior might have hurt his hand. Johnson said his car got stuck in gear on the reastart causing him to not get up to speed and Truex ran into him. edit: Almirola says he thinks his pinky finger was broken in the wreck. McMurray did something to his funny bone Friday in the crash with Stewart and Danica. back to green and then Edwards crashes extremely hard on the backstretch. Edwards got loose out of Turn 2 and came down across the front of Larson. He hi the inside wall so hard that he car came up off the ground. Good thing there is a SAFER Barrier there. edit: FS1 just reported that 27 of 40 cars have been involved in crashes so far, but again that will be off since they are not including all the cars tha wre involved in the big wreck. (Dillon - 2 crashes, Keselowski, Dibenedetto, Buescher, Sorenson have also wrecked) Kurt Busch just also hit the wall, so make it arond 29 of 40 cars that have been involved in crashes. edit: #5 car failed at the laser inspection station in post race inspection. theGTAking101
Man this whole HMS/Kahne/Larson/Harvick rumor is getting out of control. I can't see Harvick leaving SHR. He did deny the rumors on Twitter, but even if they were true, he wouldn't say so. Even though I don't think he's completely on board with the Ford switch, I can't see him leaving in the dominant state he's currently in. The Kahne thing is interesting though. There are rumors that a current HMS driver will finish out their contract in an HMS satellite team, and Kahne is the only one that makes sense. HScott will have an open seat that he could take next year, and there's also Kyle Larson who would be the top candidate for the 5 car if Kasey is released, and that could possibly put Kasey in the 42. Though Kyle's contract isn't up till next year, I wonder if Chip would let him out a year early. Then there's Ryan Newman, where both his and his main sponsor's contracts are up at the end of the year. I see him getting the boot to make room for Ty. Who knows where Ryan could go though. Maybe Ganassi if Larson ends up in the 5? Or maybe a second Germain/JTG car. Who knows? The 51/15 at HScott is also a possibility if it isn't taken by Kahne as well as the 95. Man this is all confusing lol, so many possibilities. Only time will tell. Paul Menard and his sponsor are also in contract years, but they probably have a better chance at staying at RCR than Newman. But as much as I would absolutely love to see Larson at Hendrick, I can't see it happening next year. I'm sure he'll end up there eventually though. Though I can see him going there in 2018 when his contract is up, and Kahne gets released a year early. kk9fan97
None of that stuff will happen. They have to get everyone of the sponsors to sign off on it and that probably won't happen because of Great Clips and Busch. Great Clips goes where Kahne goes and they sponsor his World of Outlaws Sprint Car team so that could cause Hendrick to lose a sponsor. Busch likely also only wants to sponsor Harvick but likely would not follow him to the #5 if he moved there because of what happened between Budweiser and Hendrick Motorsports in 1999 when they went and sponsored the #8 DEI team part way through the year. The second issue would be the whole SHR to Ford thing and Kahne and Ford are not exactly on good terms. Kahne had a big thing going with Ford when the drove the #98 Ford for Robert Yates Racing in 2002 and the #38 Great Clips Ford in 2003 up until he signed with the Dodge Factory backed and sponsored Evernham Motorsports team. There is a lot of issues for any of it to happen. kk9fan97
well everyone can shut up about Harvick leaving SHR now. The team just announced Harvick has signed a long term contract extension with SHR... http://www.stewarthaasracing.com/shr-announcement3.php EDIT: to go along with this, the NASCAR media is mad that they are now being called out for their decision to report on a rumor that had no facts backing it up whatsoever, and a rumor that came from someone too scared to use their real name (a source). So now everyone is saying Larson is going to be the one swapping with Kahne, but again the sponsors are a huge issue with Great Clips not only going wherever Kahne goes but being a sponsor of Kasey Kahne Racing, Kahne's World of Outlaws team, but Farmers Insurance also sponsors them. I highly doubt that any of Kahne's sponsors would sign off on it, and I can't see Larson leaving Ganassi with not only how good he has been running, but with how much he enjoys doing the sports car stuff and the possibility of running in the Indy 500. theGTAking101
I actually don't think sponsorship would be a problem. Of course Kahne would take a few with him, but there are still sponsors such as Pepsi/Mountain Dew and Quicken Loans. Yes they don't sponsor many races but that could change. Plus it's Hendrick, so it shouldn't be that hard to get a sponsor. But like you said one plus to being at Ganassi, is that it's easier to get a ride for the Indy 500. Elliott bascally stopped in front of the whole pack and everyone started scrambling and Biffle hit Elliott and then Kenseth got turned and Stewart and Kahne got collected. edit: woah, Chase Elliott just about crashed into one of the safety trucks on the backstretch under caution. edit: FS1 just had, by far, the worst on-screen graphics fail ever seen. theGTAking101
I didn't think my hatred for Logano could grow any stronger, but by golly it just did. Until like 6 to go I thought Larson had it. These past 3 weeks he's been one of the best in the field, he just keeps getting screwed over. Now I might be biased because I can't stand Logano's guts with a burning passion, but I didn't like how close he was getting to him while racing for the lead. Like I said it was probably nothing, just my hatred of him trying to find all his faults, but yeah. Rant over. I actually enjoyed the race, the racing was pretty good. kk9fan97
the only drivers that liked the format were the driver that won (Logano), and the driver that came up with it (Keselowski), everyone else seemed to think it was pretty dumb, which it was, and they nearly had a full on disaster on their hands - had the caution for the pileup involving Elliott, Biffle, Harvick, Stewart, Kahne, and Kenseth gone 3 laps longer, all the drivers would have gone past the lap required to have made a green flag pitstop before.... had they gone past that under caution, who knows what NASAR would have done. - A new NASCAR video game has been announced. theGTAking101
I think the format was good on paper, it was just the pit stops that messed everything up. I'd say get rid of the mandatory green flag stops and it shouldn't be as bad. But yeah the drivers weren't too fond of it. Denny and Tony were especially vocal bout it. I'm excited for the new game, Anything is better than the sh*t ETX gave us the past few years. But I guess we'll have to wait till July to see some footage and find out for ourselves. I didn't like the idea of the highest finishing Toyota driver getting on the cover, I think someone like Chase Elliott would've made more sense. But if it had to be a Toyota driver, at least make it the champion, Kyle Busch. But really at the ending of the race I wasn't even paying attention to where all the Toyota drivers were and actually didn't know who got the cover till I looked at the race results a few hours later.
