the Xfinity Series race just started, and NASCAR's inconsistency has already begun.

Erik Jones just got black flagged for beating the pole sitter (Kyle Busch) to the start line which is a bad call seeing as a few years in the first ever Xfinity series race at Indianapolis, Kyle Busch beat pole sitter Kasey Kahne to the line and they never called him on it despite Busch beating Kahne to the line by about 4 car lengths... (later in that same race, Elliott Sadler got shoved past the leader on a restart by his teammate at the time, Austin Dillon and NASCAR black flagged him for it)...

so Race Control is still clueless as ever.

Busch beating Kahne to the line by a mile and no call (at 8:05 in the video) -

Sadler getting shoved past Brad Keselowski and getting black flagged (at 1:12 in the video) -

edit: This should be good. Clint Bowyer, Ty Dillon, Greg Biffle, Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., Jimmie Johnson, and Danica Patrick are taking part in a NASCAR - Monster Energy Supercross crossover where Biffle, Stenhouse, Dillon, and Bowyer will be riding dirt bikes in a holeshot challenge (Johnson and Danica are not riding but taking part it in some other way).

http://www.foxsports.com/motor/story/nascar-atlanta-supercross-holeshot-challenge-022416

The telecast of the Monster Energy Supercross event starts at 7pm eastern on FS1, after the airing of 100,000 Cameras: Daytona 500.

edit: Kyle Busch won the Xfinity Series race.

Truck race is going on right now, with under 20 laps to go. Christopher Bell turned his teammate Daniel Suarez right into Matt Crafton (the leader at the time) which turned Crafton into the outside wall on the backstretch extremely hard sending Crafton's truck airborne. Suarez hit the inside wall extremely hard as well.

Guess Fox failed to learn from what happened the last time they stupidly decided to show the on-board camera of a driver that just wrecked hard before the driver put the window net down. They decided to show Crafton's on-board camera immediately after the wreck, and it showed Crafton who looked like he was in pain.

Fox did the same thing back in 2007 and showed David Reutimann's on-board camera after getting turned nearly head on into the wall at Auto Club Speedway and it showed him slumped over the wheel for quite some time because he got the breath knocked out of him, before finally putting the window net down and getting out of the car. They got in trouble with NASCAR for doing that.

So now they are interviewing Suarez and tell him they are going to show him the replay so he can see what happened, and they decide to show the view from the roof camera on Suarez's truck, which shows nothing... Fox is such a failure of a broadcaster.

edit: Bell just wrecked super hard coming out of Turn 4 while leading coming to 7 laps to go. looks like his right front tire went down.

expensive day for Kyle Busch Motorsports... Suarez wrecked (by Bell), Bell wrecked twice (both times with flat right front tires), and William Bryon had an engine failure.

edit: John Hunter Nemechek is the winner.

Sounds like Biffle, Bowyer, Stenhouse, and Ty Dillon are going to be doing the holeshot contest very soon - https://twitter.com/TonyOldman41/status/703746373234114560

FS1 has already interviewed Jeff Gordon and Ryan Blaney and they showed Jimmie Johnson in the stands.

edit: Johnson is in the tv booth with Ralph Sheheen right now.

edit: now they are interviewing The King, Richard Petty.

edit: and now Kurt Busch is being interviewed.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

this goes to show how crazy the truck series races are - after two races Parker Kligerman is the points leader and he is not even scheduled to run all the races at this point. He leads Daniel Hemric by 1 point.

Edited by kk9fan97

see NASCAR this is why you listen to the drivers and not some idiot you hired a few months before.... had they gone with the high downforce package that the idiot wanted them to, the racing would have been bad, but thankfully the drivers won out and we finally got some good racing.

also leave it to Fox Sports to find another way to look like a bunch of clueless idiots. Folds of Honor, the sponsor of the race was doing a tribute thing for the military on lap 13 and Fox stupidly decided to go to commercial on lap 11 and did not come back from commercials until lap 16, completely missing the tribute.

edit: that penalty on Kenseth was by far the one of the biggest BS calls ever... they black flagged him for "improper fueling" because the gas man put the track bar adjustment wrench on to the deck lid while he had the gas can...

I like what Dale said after the race. I liked the new package today. Even through the super long green flag stretch at the beginning, nobody really pulled away. To some people it might have been boring, but I loved the racing.

Pretty cool to see Johnson tie Sr. with 76 wins today, let's hope his 77th gets a better reaction from the fans than Gordon's did.

Edited by theGTAking101

The fans did not react to Gordon's 77th too well because he won it in Earnhardt Country (Talladega), had he done it anywhere else (other than Daytona and Talladega) the reaction likely would have been different. Same thing happened in 2004 when Gordon beat Junior after Brian Vickers wrecked in Turn 4 causing the race to end under caution, and ultimately causing the downpour of beer cans.

The first race after Daytona Speedweeks is always sort of weird for me because after the 7 races during it I get kind of used to the big packs, but I thought this one was rather good and it seemed like the drivers for the most part had fun. The races at Atlanta are always good thanks to the surface having been left alone to age since the repave/reconfiguration in 1997, and this was probably the best by far.

The only thing that I was not happy with was race control with the stupid penalty on Kenseth, then ignoring the reports of oil/fluid and debris on track that was coming from multiple drivers. It was almost like race control wanted a repeat of what happened at Dover in 2004 when someone blew a motor and put oil down with under 20 laps to go where they ignored reports of fluid eventually causing the leader at the time, Kasey Kahne (he had a huge lead too) and about 6 other cars to crash when they hit the oil in turn 4 with 15 laps to go.

I'm also impressed with Stenhouse. He was running in the top 15 all day and managed to get a top 10. I hope Roush can find some speed this year. Biffle didn't do too bad either.

Chase impressed me too. We all know he's a great driver, but I'm glad it's not taking him a while to get used to these cars.

It certainly didn't help that it was actually on Dale Sr's (would be 56th) birthday that Gordon won Talladega in 2007.

I had forgotten about that, that definitely added into that.

the Brian France part has me shaking my head seeing as NASCAR pulled the Truck Series and Xfinity Series Awards Banquet from one of his hotels last year because of racist comments Trump had made and comes after the stuff with the confederate flag last year and NASCAR/Brian France trying to get them to be kept away from the tracks.

- This is one of the best things ever that I found on Reddit. It's a 360 degree panorama cam of the Daytona 500. The resolution is so high you can zoom in on every single fan and every part of the track. You can even see all the spotters and the guys in the booth. You can even see Roger Penske, Rick Hendrick and Tom Logano. Here's the Reddit post, if you wanna see some of the things other people found. If you were at the race you can tag yourself here, this is amazing.

EDIT: Here one for the pre-race, and some from previous years.

- Stenhouse picks up Sunny D as a sponsor for 4 races, really nice car:

- Joey Gase will be driving the #32 for GoFas at Phoenix.

- Michael Annett's new scheme starting in Vegas:

"Do as I say, not as I do".

BFrance would make an excellent politician himself.

I saw that picture from Daytona on Reddit was able to find and recognize Kevin Hamlin (Kahne's spotter), Tab Boyd (Logano's spotter), Brett Griffin (Bowyer's spotter), The Fox Sports commentators - Mike Joy, Jeff Gordon, and Darrell Waltrip - The MRN booth commentators, and Mike Helton, Steve O'Donnell, and David Hoots in NASCAR race control.

BREAKING NEWS: NASCAR has suspended Cole Pern - Crew Chief for Martin Truex, Jr. - for one race, fined him $50,000, and Furniture Row Racing has been fined 15 owners points, and Martin Truex, Jr. has been fined 15 drivers points for a roof flap violation at Atlanta (the same thing that stopped them from putting up a lap in Daytona 500 qualifying and got Pern fined and placed on NASCAR probation a few weeks ago)

also Randall Burnett - Crew Chief for A.J. Allmendinger - has been fined $15,000, been placed on NASCAR probation through December 31st, JTG-Daugherty Racing has been fined 10 owners points, and Allmendinger has been fined 10 drivers points for a rear wheel hub crush panel violation

and even more penalties -

- Slugger Labbe (Crew Chief for Austin Dillon), Justin Alexander (Crew Chief for Paul Menard), Chris Lambert (Crew Chief for Ryan Newman) and Dave Winston (Crew Chief for Michael McDowell) have all been fined $15,000 and placed on NASCAR Probation through December 31st, and the #3, #27, and #31 at RCR, along with the #95 at CircleSport-Leavine Family Racing have been fined 10 owners points apiece, and drivers Ryan Newman, Austin Dillon, Paul Menard and Michael McDowell have all been fined 10 drivers points for pre-race inspection penalties (the #3, #31 and #27 had been pulled from the inspection line and had parts confiscated, the same must have happened with the #95)

- #32 GoFas Racing (Jeffrey Earnhardt), #83 BK Racing (Matt Dibenedetto), #88 Hendrick Motorsports (Dale Earnhardt, Jr.) and #98 Premium Motorsports (Cole Whitt) were given warnings after failing template inspection multiple times (according to Bob Pockrass, the #32 team will lose 15 minutes of practice time as a result)

So there was a test session at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Denny Hamlin ended up crashing hard. The car he crashed in was supposed to be the primary car for this weekends race. Hamlin will go to a backup car for the weekend.

So I just messaged dozens of sponsors and teams on Facebook asking for hero cards. Most didn't answer yet, but some did including Furniture Row, Love's Travel Stops and Zaxby's and they said they can send some my way. I'm pumped. I'm surprised that they told me that they can ship them to Canada.

well race control failed big on that one. #25 Cody Ware wrecked in Turn 2 and somehow race control completely missed it and it took one the NASCAR spotters to tell race control to get the caution thrown. Problem was the caution got thrown so late, everyone was still going full speed and #6 Darrell Wallace Jr. spun sideways and slammed into Ware and then #42 Justin Marks at the same time hit the wall trying to avoid Ware and then slammed into Wallace, Jr.

edit: the caution lights that the drivers see did not even come on until after Wallace, Jr. had slammed into Ware and right before Marks slammed into Wallace, Jr. which was at least 10 seconds after Ware had first spun out.

if they want to do the chase in the Xfinity Series and Truck Series then they need to straight up ban all the full time drivers that selected to earn points in the Cup Series.

looks like today's race is going to be delayed for a little bit. It is raining right now, and extremely windy (someone posted a picture on twitter of a dust storm outside the backstretch - https://twitter.com/NASCARTeam10_20/status/706572948765696001)and teams are having issues keeping the awnings up on their pit wagons. . The rain is supposed to stop, but the wind is supposed to continue and that can cause issues for the drivers during the race if they get caught off guard by one of the huge gusts of wind.

radar as of a few minutes ago - https://twitter.com/NASCAR_WXMAN/status/706574708129402880

2 drivers have to go to the rear of the field - Carl Edwards because of having to use a backup car, and Jamie McMurray also for a backup car (Denny Hamlin is also in a backup car but because the crash happened in the test session it does not count towards the actual race weekend and he gets to keep his qualifying spot).

So first they get rain in Phoneix last fall when it hardly ever happens during race weekend there and now Las Vegas today.... Mother Nature really seems to hate NASCAR.

Pre-race stuff is starting right now.

edit: drivers have been called to their cars, and NASCAR says there will be a competition caution around lap 30 because of the rain/wind and the jet dryers having to be used.

Last year was probably one of the worst for rain, it was just awful.

3 races into the Xfinity season and we still have no drivers in the chase, that's pretty sad. I don't mind people like Amirola, Jr., Elliott and Kahne in the races because they're not racing every week, but people like Logano, Busch and Dillon who are always dominating, it's so stupid.

holy cow, the weather at the track is crazy. Huge dust storm hitting the track.

edit: the wind is so bad that the #2 team lost their pit sign and according to Bob Pockrass it is sitting in the middle of pit road.
