I was hoping for Custer or Nemecheck to win, f*ck.

I just opened the stream and saw a replay of the wreck. People on Reddit are saying there was some great 3 wide racing going on for a while. The Trucks always have spectacular plate races.

Might as well cheer for Ryan Truex now.

it's been absoutely insane. So many incredible saves and I have no idea how they did not wreck like until they did with how out of control and unstable the trucks have been.

edit: the red flag has been lifted, after almost 30 minutes.

HOLY COW CHRISTOPHER BELL TOOK BIG TIME AIR AND BARREL ROLLED DOWN THE FRONT STRETCH. BAD WRECK. edit: Bell is out of the truck and walking away.

Johnny Sauter wins it.

that blowover by Bell was just about as bizarre as Austin Dillon's last July. The roll cage on Bell's truck, namely around the a-post is crushed in. 13 barrel rolls for Bell according to FS1

edit: these Generation 3 trucks have had issues with going airborne is the most bizarre ways. Ben Kennedy got on his side at Talladega last year, and the earlier in that same race Mason Mingus ended up on top of another truck on the backstretch with the front of his truck.

edit: Sauter's win is Chevrolet's first ever win in the Daytona truck series race. Second ever win for GMS Racing in the truck series.

so instead of staying on air and getting an interview with Bell, FS1 cuts away for a taped show.

Holy f*ck I just watched the ending to the race and I agree it's super bizarre how it started flipping so fast. I don't even know how to describe what I just saw.

Sucks that Sauter just nudged out Truex to win though. It seems like every plate race has a last lap crash now.

NASCAR just reported to the media that Christopher Bell has been transported to the local hospital for further evaluation.

His wreck started off exactly like Ben Kennedy's wreck last year at Talladega when he got on to his side, and then it went really weird. It looked like the #9 (I think that is who it was behind him) hit him when he started going over and it launched him into the complete flip in the air before landing upside down and barrel rolling.

edit: not NASCAR, but NASCAR related because they are part owners of the United Sports Car Championship. One of Starworks Motorsport's trailers was stolen overnight last night and was found not too long ago on blocks with all the wheels missing - https://twitter.com/starworksmotor

I think you're talking about the 2014 Talladega race, where Kennedy hit the wall in the tri-oval and nearly flipped, not last year.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MY4nM8Wzbd0

yeah that's it. I got the years confused. Either way, both wrecks started off looking about the same until Bell got clipped by WIlliam Bryon. They got to do something about the way the trucks are lifting off when wrecking like that.

One thing that I would like to point out, is that I cannot express enough how amazing of a spotter TJ Majors is. I'd say he's the best spotter out there. on the plate tracks, he's constantly feeding Dale information. I think he's one of the main reasons that he is so dominant on the plate tracks, they just work so great together.

Just watch some of this video, there is never a time when he's not talking. I was watching one with Danica as well, and the spotter was barely talking while she was in the middle of a big pack. I think this is why Dale can successfully pull of all these big moves, because he knows more about what's going on around him.

Bell has been released from the hospital with no injuries. Really good to hear considering how crazy that flip was. I don't think I've ever seen that many consecutive flips in a NASCAR crash before. 13? He was spinning so fast I couldn't even count it.

As scary as these wrecks look, they are safer than driving into the wall. They dissipate their energy and leave less to impact the driver. I would much rather spin wildly through the air for 10 seconds than hit a wall head on and knock my lights out. Glad he wasn't hurt, but I can't imagine how disorienting that was. If that was a precursor to these next 2 days it's going to be an interesting weekend to say the least.

EDIT: I don't know what video he was watching, but that clearly wasn't 13 flips. It was 9. So I wasn't counting slow, seeing it on the slow mo for the first time I can see it was definitely 9.

I'm not sure where people are getting 13 either, I counted around 8 or 9.

EDIT:

Well f*ck, Ty Dillon got the pole for the Xfinity race. I was hoping Labonte or Suarez could get it. I really don't care for Ty.

That is how the majority of the spotters are at Daytona and Talladega. I listen to Kasey Kahne's radio during the races and at those two tracks his spotter Kevin Hamlin's mic is wide open and he is talking non-stop unless it's single file or under caution.

Chase Elliott driving the All-Star #88 for JR Motorsports won today's Xfinity Series Race at Daytona in a row photo finish with Joey Logano. Elliott Sadler finished 1st and was the highest finishing Xfinity Series only driver, which gives him the points lead.

theGTAking101

I really hated the way Logano was driving today, he was being way too aggressive and there were multiple times where I thought he was gonna wreck the field. Sucks that Labonte got taken out early, but glad that Logano, Erik Jones or one of the Dillon brothers didn't win.

Seeing as you are a Junior fan, you might like this (and you might already know about it). Every Thursday during the NASCAR season, on the JR Motorsports youtube page they upload videos called JRM 360 and a lot of times it is the JRM 360 crew playing pranks on other JRM employees. They have also done stuff like funny competitions, and there have been appearances by Dale Jr. in a few of them. They have even done a video at Junior's race car grave yard.

They uploaded the first one for this season a couple of days ago -

this was, and is by far the biggest prank they have ever done, and it's sort of a three part thing because of what ended up happening with it (going to put them in spoilers to keep the post from being huge) -

Part 1 -

part 2 -

the full prank -

my favorite one, by far just because of Junior's appearance -

another really good one -

their Youtube page - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJyLHFNxdqfbxEq7HiP6dKA

edit: not sure what happened with the spoilers but was not showing the actual videos and not the link instead so I dropped the spoilers.

Daytona 500 coverage has begun on Fox Sports. Hour long pre-race show and then the race.

that old school NASCAR on FOX music sounds pretty good I must say. I was quite happy when I read yesterday that were bringing it back. I heard it during Cup Series practice yesterday before I saw the story on FoxSports.com and was like "wait what?"

side-by-side commercial break? Hopefully they do that for the entire race, but they probably won't.

crazy save by Harvick, and now Chase Elliott is done. Regan Smith spun as well.

edit: Smith spun himself out.

edit: that caution actually saved Austin Dillon and Robert Richardson, Jr. who both had lost the draft.

They really need to do something about the front of these cars. With the COTs, they could drive through the grass and be fine, but these Gen 6 cars get absolutely destroyed. Sucks for Chase.

it's the splitter that is doing it. That is why a bunch of drivers keep saying they want the front valence back. If they were to hit the grass with the front valence it would bend it in, and they could just pit and pull it back out. With the splitter it just completely digs in and gets to that point where it can't go any further and comes to an abrupt stop and destroys the front of the cars.

Chris Fontaine did the same thing Friday night in the truck race. When the 17 truck wreck happened, he got slowed way down and had to go to the grass to miss the crashed trucks and even with him going super slow the splitter caught the grass and destroyed the front of his truck.

they never had this issue with the Gen 4 cars (the cars before the CoT) because of the valence and it was really only an issue with the CoT when they changed the front end of the cars in 2011 and got rid of the splitter braces, but even then it was not as big of an issue as it is with the Gen 6. On the CoT before the they changed them, the splitters would dig in, but the only thing that would really get damaged was the splitter braces.

edit: so FOX used the correct M&M's car this time on the graphic they just showed, but still are using the wrong FedEx car. Their graphics team still can't fully get it together

crash. Vickers spun, Edwards turned across someone and hit the wall. Bayne has damage as well.

edit: actually, it looks like Edwarss got slowed down and got run into and turned into the wall by Bayne.

huge wreck for Dibenedetto and Buescher. Heavy impact into the Safer Barrier for both.

Both Edwards and Chase Elliott did a good job getting slowed down both had their wheels locked up.

Dibenedetto still in the car. Buescher too.

Dibenedetto is out of the car now, and now Buescher too.

Man I got chills that looked just like Earnhardt and Schrader. Dibenedetto had a little limp getting out, but luckily that was all between them.

I thought the exact same thing.

that mid-race report stuff and the Dale, Jr. Nationwide Insurance race updates are why Daytona in July can't come fast enough so NBC/NBCSN starts broadcasting the races. Fox Sports is such a joke of a broadcaster. They come back from commercial break and do the mid-race report and show the reporters/commentators and onboard cameras that really show nothing and then immediately after doing that they go back to commercials. So it's been over 5 minutes since we have actually seen the cars on the track.

Biffle's way off the pace.
