Am I the only one who wants to revisit GTA London in 3D/HD?

As the topic says - I loved GTA London back in't day and would love it if I could go back in the realms of 3D.

I know GTA London wasn't as big as any other of the instalments in the series back then but it was done in the classic top-down birds-eye view when the franchise was a little taboo and unheard of. So many possibilities are open for GTA London to hit a 3D/HD format. The vast underground/overground train system, the London eye, London zoo or Piccadilly Circus, the frustrating outer ring road of hell!

If I'm alone in this then that's cool, everyone has their own opinion. I've been told by friends that there was rumours of a port/add-on for GTA3 that was fronted by Rockstar/Take2 themselves but I can't find any info on this at all.

What do you think anyway, would you like to see GTA leave the states for a one off game or do you think it's a bad idea? Yes I live in the UK but I don't live near London, if I were to have it my way then I'd of course want a 'GTA London' but I would set it in York city. Is a lot more cultural and has a lot more history - isn't as big and grand but hell, itss a beautiful city to drive around :)

(Just to say I didn't know where to put this thread as its about the new-next gen of GTA games, so I thought I'd stick it here rather than general discussion or off topic - Sorry to the mods if I've just made you extra work by feeling the need to move this)

This is GTA, it's about the game having a setting based on a real-life city with a thriving and very active criminal underworld scene. It is not really about 'culture', history or aesthetic beauty. If you want stuff like that that in open-world, you're better off playing games like Assassin's Creed.

To answer your main question, I'd say no. I'm from London, and while London does indeed have a big criminal underworld and gangs, it is still not really suited to GTA in my personal opinion. It is still too safe a city to realistically be used as a modern GTA setting (even though it's just a game). American cities just offer much more diversity and richness in what they have to offer GTA locations in terms of crime, violence, danger, criminal underworld/gang activity, political corruption etc.

I just think GTA is best suited to locations set in the USA and nowhere else, GTA is purely designed for an American setting.

I know what you mean about the diversity and criminal underground - so no York wouldn't suit that well, but I did say if I could have it my way...

London could work though, if you think about it. Its called a criminal underground for a reason - no one in the realms of every day public life know about it. Corruption is evident in even the smallest cities so theres no argument for storyline there.

Like you say it is a game and exaggerations are made here and there - like a knowledgeable 40-something protag flying a fighter jet through the streets or a huge bank raid where massive police presence is required because 3 cars are driving round the city letting off grenades and c4 explosives. Hell, even sniping private jets out of the sky and following the smoking trail to its crash site and killing any survivors...

Just wanted other peoples take on this anyway :)

I live in the UK.... I don't want my favourite game series to have a game set in London.... it would suck! trust me :(

Too late dude:

Interestingly, WHY would it suck? Not bashing you by any means, merely curious as to your trusted decision.

Ha ha ! Who on earth told you that ? Nah, no way, it's nothing like Detroit at all. Hackney used to have a very bad reputation many years ago for it's relatively high crime rate, drug problem, certain gangs, and occasional shootings - it still does have all that going on to some extent, but it's not as bad as some people claim it is, it's a bit exaggerated. In fact, Hackney is now experiencing gentrification in some of it's districts (Stoke Newington and Victoria Park), they are becoming trendy and expensive places to live now.

I would love to see another GTA game set in London (or a city based on London, to be more precise)! There is nothing a game set in the U.S. would have, that a similar game set in London couldn't.

And before anybody says it: "Dan Houser said GTA will always be set in America" - well, yes. But Dan Houser also said that Chinatown Wars would be a Nintendo DS exclusive, and that EFLC would only come out on the Xbox 360. Are we really going to take everything he says as gospel?

I think London is big enough and diverse enough to make a great HD version. I always thought Hong Kong/Tokyo/Bangkok would make a good setting for a GTA game. Sleeping Dogs was done and was a lot of fun... While it lasted.

Your comparing apples to oranges. There is huge difference between releasing GTA on different platforms and completely changing the country location of the usual American setting of GTA games.

What I'm saying is that Dan Houser has said things in the past, that have turned out to be lies. There's no reason to believe that "GTA will only ever be set in the US" is any different to any of his previous claims. You can't trust a businessman.

What? back in this Legendary Series 2D days,GTA was set in London (twice) 1969 and 1961 in 1999.

Hopefully they should remake the 1999's London 1969 but in 3D/HD graphics (just as the OP say).

Do you realise he is the Co-Creator of GTA since the series entered 3D (circa 2001).him along with his Brother Sam Houser plus the Owners of Rockstar Games.

I'd love a return to London in 3D HD. Then you could also have a f*ck off big huge map and link the motorway 3 hours up the road to where I live too (I can only wish!)

If R* never do it, the most likely way would be mods or a conversion of IV or V etc.

I'd love to see a GTA game set outside the USA.

GTA did that back in the 2D Days with two Expansion Games set in London,1969 and 1961 in 1999.But yeah an HD Era GTA game outside the U.S would be cool unfortunately i cant see that happen.

I'm perfectly aware of who Dan Houser is. That doesn't make him any less fallible. I don't hold him up on a pedestal like some God, like the rest of this forum appears to. "And on the Fourth day, Houser said: "There will be no GTA set outside America" and it so..."

we should only hope for a remake on GTA 20th Year Anniversary in 2017.

I'd love to see London in another GTA game. Honestly, if I got to pick a setting for GTA VI right now, I'd pick London over Vice City or San Fierro. I think it would be very interesting to see R* satirize a british culture. And I loved that one website in IV that offered travel tips for american tourists travelling to Europe. National stereotypes in Europe are a comedy gold mine.

But, unfortunately, GTA is like Fallout, in that american culture is integral to the series. Even though european culture is quite similar to american, it would still be different enough to break the mold. But then again, maybe that's exactly what the series needs? I thought V's humor was little stiff and forced, perhaps a little shake-up would be good for the series.

I dont really like the idea of GTA being set outside of USA as it just feels right there, plus R* still have many many locations to parody before they would need to look outside of the USA.
