danzor
It just seems interesting to me, and it would be pretty cool to find out how many of the 580k, have died. EDIT:: TItle too long, question was, Have you guys ever wondered how many accounts on this website are from dead people? The Odyssey
Yeah, there a few people here who have passed on. One of the communities longest standing member (GTAFan2001 or something along those lines) unfortunately died at age 27. Also ODIE, a well known modder and a guy called Kutthroat who had a very untimely and unexpected death. I'm sure these more that I haven't mentioned. Polish_Trucker
Well, there have been a couple I've heard of, but who thinks like that anyway? I think you need to take a trip to see Isiah Friedlander.

na89340qv0n34b09q340
Eventually (if GTAForums doesn't die off some time) everyone who's a member now will be dead. Imagine a site where half the users are dead. But GTAF isn't old enough to have a lot of dead users yet, I reckon. Mostly young people play GTA, and the site's only about 14 years old. ShadowDog94
Why would a dead person register an account? Did you misunderstand the question or was that just a vain attempt at being funny? Hodgey.
I remember Kutthroat died by getting his neck tangled in an electrical wire. Depressing sh*t. I remember when it was announced he died but I didn't know/remember that he died in that way. Only other I know who's died fairly recently was GTA3Freak-2001 and if memory serves me correct I think he had some sort of disease. People who know him better will be able to confirm or deny this. Osho
There's no easy way to find out which members are dead except he/she's a mod or have good friends here, even then it's rare case scenario. But, what will you get knowing about the deceased list of members, if any?
Creed Bratton
Probably more than we're aware. Which reminds me. We still don't have a memorial wall for the ones that we know of. Shameful. Panz
Did members here just know some of these guys IRL? Otherwise, how did they find out that the member passed away? I guess you could see their names in the paper, but it's unlikely that you'll just happen across a GTAF member's obituary in the paper who happens to live near you and recognize it and make that connection unless you knew the person well (let alone even knew the member's real name). It is eery, though. Death is scary. Edited February 16, 2014 by Panz

WinterEdit
Huh. Just a while ago there was an article about 'when will Facebook have more dead people registered than people that are alive'... this topic made me think of that. More on-topic: I don't know, however. Sometimes I have thought about it, though, but not here. I've thought about it when browsing through my PS3 Friends List. I have added people years ago and next to some of them, it says 'Last login: 3-5 years ago'. It's kind of depressing, although that's probably not the case in most of them. Maybe they have just quit playing PS3 or have started a new account. Edited February 16, 2014 by WinterEdit

Svip
Why would a dead person register an account? Did you misunderstand the question or was that just a vain attempt at being funny? No, I read the question literally. 'Accounts on this website from dead people' implies the accounts were registered when they were dead. Of course, he meant to ask 'owners of accounts who have died'. Shah Sam
We should all pair up with another member, and regularly tell them about our health (once a month or something). Therefore I can tell my partner that I've got aids or something. If your partner doesn't send you a message, he/she is probably dead.
lil weasel
When a member doesn't visit the site in more than three years, to me that account is dead. It should be deleted and the user name returned to the pool, especially so when that name has never been used to post. Osho

It should be deleted and the user name returned to the pool, especially so when that name has never been used to post. It depends. When people actually die, it is good to see what they have left behind. For example - anyone on these forums can visit Kutthroat's account and pay their respects. Tacymist
Deletion after only 3 years? We've recently had a returning member who registered over 10 years ago but didn't start posting until a few days ago. People shouldn't lose their accounts for being inactive, you never know when they'll return.

I remember when it was announced he died but I didn't know/remember that he died in that way. If I remember, Kutt was on some heavy medication for depression that caused him to pass out and fall over into a pile of blankets in his closet and he suffocated. Not sure where the electrical wire strangulation story came from. Awesome guy though and forever missed. Mario is another one that I heard about who allegedly committed suicide. He was in one of the officials, but I forgot which one. swolo yaggins and Daz
