Unofficial NCAA Basketball Thread.

Recommended Posts

Inspired by the NBA Basketball thread, I decided to make a College Basketball thread. March Madness is coming up soon, so maybe we can post our brackets. Also, you can show your Universities some love, current student and Alumni alike.

I'll start by saying that Tyler Ennis did Pitt dirty with that buzzer beater yesterday. Saw that sh*t live!

I was big fan of mens ball when I was still in college... but once you graduate it's hard to stay interested unless you're just a HUGE alumn fan.

only because the sport is hard to follow with so much turnover. every year a handful of new names to learn.

it's also just a conflict for me.

these kids play their freakin' hearts out which makes the games a lot more exciting sometimes. the fact that they don't play for money = a lot of dramatic glory moments. but the fact that they don't play for any salary is also bullsh*t which needs to change. the universities make MILLIONS off these kids backs, most of which goes into the pockets of the school athletics board and the schools own advertising. those young men (and women) deserve more than tuition for what they bring to the community. especially considering that if they get injured and can no longer play, now they're just out of luck because they spent their whole life preparing to play sports and haven't made/saved a single penny.

can't wait for March Madness though

Erm I think you meant Pitt did su dirty with all the clock shenanigans @ 44 secs left in the 2nd. Not to mention the bs charging call on cooney. That shot by Ennis had me out of my seat!!

You can likely tell I am an SU fan. I can't wait to see them wipe the floor of the dome with NC tonight.

Oh and Syracuse born and raised but a U of Nebraska @ Lincoln alumn.

I couldn't watch any part of the game except the last part, so I have no idea know what happened before that shot. That would have been quite a win for Pitt if he didn't make that shot tho.

When I flipped my TV on, it was at 5 seconds left, so I decided to stay and watch.. Didn't think that was going to happen. Lol

I made my bracket. It will be interesting to see how many first round games I got wrong because my bracket is usually toast after the first round :p

Well according to http://ftw.usatoday.com/2014/03/ncaa-tournament-odds-perfect-bracket-yahoo-warren-buffett/ there's only been one espn analyst, John Diver who picked the first round correctly in the past 7 years.

The odds are about, 1:9,223,372,036,854,775,808 (2^63) but that's based on if the teams were a coin flipped heads or tails. So the number could be a lot lower considering better teams usually win with an upset here and there.

This is what 1 quintillion pennies looks like, the white little thing in the lower corner is the Empire State building.

If you can write a unique bracket every second, it would take you 292,471,208,678 years to get the perfect bracket. That's about 22 times longer than the universe is known to be old.

How's that for mind f*cked?

Then again, the top 20 brackets get paid $100,000. :^:

where I live, not being a fan of college basketball is close to heresy, so i've been brought up to hold the game in high graces. To me the reason why it's so much better than the NBA is because of the names on the front, not the back. Yes, you may need to learn new names every 4 years, or every 1 or 2 depending on the school, you at least know what the name on the front of the jersey means. Programs like North Carolina, Kentucky, and Indiana have coaches, teams, and stories that mean so much more than individual players and how much they make.

I do agree with you about the injustice in the system, though i think the problem lies with society, not the NCAA. I doubt it will ever change, but maybe we can at least offer more incentives to student atheletes for their commitment

Speaking of college basketball, has anyone taken advantage of the Quicken Loans Billion Dollar Bracket Challenge? You could win a BILLION DOLLARS (yes, that is a B) if your bracket is perfect: https://tournament.fantasysports.yahoo.com/quickenloansbracket/challenge/?qls=GDN_B14brack.0000000030&mpch=ads

GTA3Rockstar

Yea, my bracket got popped. Currently 11/16 correct so far, not too bad, considering you can still win $100k Hopefully I can get 25/32 correct to continue, any lower puts a damper on things

EDIT There's quite a bit of people who got todays games correct, but seriously? Who would've picked North Dakota State over Oklahoma?

Edited by GTA3Rockstar

Well I got Duke/Mercer OSU/Dayton Colorado/Pitts Texas/ASU And NDSU/OU wrong so far. Im terrible at this

Damn I wish I had cable to watch the UA game.

Currently in like 3.6 millionth place on ESPN

Heyyyy I currently have the same score as Wilbon from PTI

There's only one perfect bracket left, he was on ESPN. Thing is, he didn't play in the Buffet's tournament. Sucks for him cause he could've at least won $100k

Anyways, look at this guy https://tournament.fantasysports.yahoo.com/quickenloansbracket/422099 Totally screwed himself picking Duke to make it to the finals. But its fine I guess, considering the top 5 tops are 31/32 and they picked Duke to win at least once, others twice.

I went 20/32 :/

Wait brackets made on ESPN aren't eligible for the $1 billion?

Nope, only on Yahoo and you had to have signed up specifically for the challenge, not just a normal pool.

Because look at this guy https://tournament.fantasysports.yahoo.com/quickenloansbracket/2030973 36/36 right now but guess what? Didn't sign up for the challenge specifically. So, if anything he lost his chance at $100k, let alone the billion. lol

Upset! Dayton over Syracuse. No longer perfect

Final Four will be decided today! The teams remaining to punch the ticket are Michigan State, UConn, Kentucky, and Michigan.

Predictions for today:

Michigan State was my preseason pick for the National Champion, so i'm gonna pick them over UConn, 68-65.

For Kentucky and Michigan, it's a close one. Kentucky is playing their best ball of the season, but without big man Willie Cauley-Stein I don't see them stopping Michigan's 3 point heavy offense.

Michigan 72

Kentucky 66

I would say it has to be FLA at this point. I see no reason why they will get beat after how dominant they have been and the teams left in the tourney. I would have picked Michigan State, Louisville or Arizona to beat them but they are all out

Well, he started perfect but his bracket turned to sh*t. lol

https://tournament.fantasysports.yahoo.com/quickenloansbracket/2344987 decent 51/60 so far for him. I was 35/60 :c lol

GTA3Rockstar

I picked none of the final four. First time in like 4 years thats happened for me

I don't see how you couldn't have picked Fla at least.

That's what I got lol
