Damn son, I'm about to check the update now. Just booting up GTA online as we speak. 750k for a car? I would lay money down that it's a piece of sh*t too. Well, maybe not the worst car in the game but I am high in my doubts that it warrants a 750k price tag. Also I thought the suits and other upgrades would be free in game too but I guess it gives me stuff to spend my money on now which is also a good thing. Shame this game's bank accounts don't offer interest rates, or I'd be so loaded lol.

1. Release DLC stuff for free (aka new car in Massacre pak)

2. Make cars/clothes/guns expensive as fck ($750k for car alone)

3. Make it a limited time.... so peeps can't make enough to buy said goodies within the time frame...

4. Peeps have to buy shark cards = Profit

I'm not mad at this. I don't have money, but I have time. So if every DLC is free and I just got to cough up some in game coin to acquire the items then I'm more than happy with that. Plus I really don't see them introducing paid DLC for online as it seems each DLC has been incompatible with players who don't have it.

Every time that R* makes a change to something... somebody, somewhere, inevitably claims that it was done to get people to buy cash cards. Hell, most people don't even need a reason to spout that nonsense. But it happens without fail every update so far. That they believe this to actually be the case is what makes them delusional. That it is always bitching has tainted my view of any other 'discussion' that involves cash cards. I'm cynical. Everybody sounds like a whiny bitch to me.

Not mad either, again... as a marketer and a business person, profit is what the goal is. I am also quite used to paying for DLCs/Expansion paks etc. I was certainly curious about how they'd be generating more cash. It seems there's certainly something to this model. In other games I play, like BF, if someone doesn't have the map pack, they can't access the servers. I guess with LS being one big city, not multiple maps, this approach makes some sense.

To anyone who thinks that this update was for other reasons besides selling cash cards, you are a fool. Call it crying bitching moaning what ever, it is another push for them to sell cards. Dispose of the cash cards already and just charge for the f*cking dlc's. I'd rather pay a couple bucks per dlc than to foot the price of the shark card again. To anyone who was caught off guard without enough cash, take notice and be prepared next time. Slowly grind up to around 2 million, and make that your new baseline. Don't let it fall below that, and you'll be ready when the next 'free' DLC comes around.

 

At least there are 2 weeks to grind up some cash if you are so inclined, it's not like you HAVE to buy it all tomorrow.

 

I'm not sure if I'll buy it or not, but if I do it will drop me pretty low on cash and I'll have to build it back up so I'm ready to buy that second garage when it's released.

Uhm did U read the rest of my posts in this thread.. ? It's a business. It's a pricing and marketing strategy. I'd hate to blow yer doors off, but pretty much every major corporation that you purchase from IRL has them. Soooooo... I'm not entirely sure we agree. Well, fotunately I have a massive database of cars (to sell) and missions (to farm). In fact, we started going through all the new ones in the missions since the changes during the update. Will have new and improved farming playlists in a day or so... Makin' money ain't all that tough once U put yer mind to it...

 

And yea... got mine... once fully upgraded she's got pretty good speed/handling... brakes are iffy, but she's tough as nails.

People don't seem to realize the more money R* makes the more they are going to be able to develop games for our enjoyment!

And last off. They already made 2 BILLION+ USD! They have more than enough money to make more games as of right now. Imagine how much more money they will have in a year.

It says so on one of those loading screens as long as you buy one before then you keep it. And how many of those ones thinking it's going to be free come vday, will be bitching come tomorrow?.

 

Did not read anywhere on rstars release notes about it being free on vday. They sure as hell let you know the beach bum pack cars were free though.

I don't have a problem with the business model but I do think the car is too expensive for what it is in real money. I enjoyed trying the car out in single player but perhaps not enough to spend about a tenner sterling on it. Actually, they've only 'made' around $400 million. Gross sales for ALL of 2014 was around $2.3 billion, including other titles, (such as Borderlands and MBA 2k etc..)..... Just so ya know

 

Do you have any idea what other companies you are familiar with make? Maybe... Google? They went and bought Morotola (to end a patent dispute really) for about $12.5 Billion... then sold it recently for around $2.91 Billion. Nice loss huh? They have so much fckn money they could buy a dozen Take Two's, just for sh*ts and giggles.

 

My point being, that you might think that those are big numbers, (Take Two/Rockstar), but they really aren't.

hasnt this always been the way though, the in game prompt even says if your too lazy to earn your money you can buy it...

 

i personally have no need to buy a shark card, ever... theres absolutely no point where you HAVE to buy one, as all it gives is a cash injection which can be obtained by the sacrifice of time... you spend time doing missions and it converts to GTA $... or you spend time working, buy a shark card and it turns into GTA $ .... either method is still the same, its an exchange rate of time for GTA$... one is a direct method, the other is a potentially quicker method, depending how much you earn (in your case gypsy about 5 mins work...) per hour...

 

for anyone who bitches and moans about it IMO you either a) cant afford a cash card or b) are an entitled prick... take your pick but im neither so as a mature adult ill entertain the debate with gypsy in the manner it was intended...

 

as a gamer we dont deserve anything, we dont deserve to have infinite money in a game... we play it how it was designed, which is to earn it over time, or to buy it using IRL money... for those who spend 5 mins moaning about shark cards, or moaning about those who moan about shark cards, you could earn 18,5k running rooftop rumble....if i added up all the time people have spent posting on this forum alone about it, i reckon yall have wasted more time bitching than it would take you to grind the entire amount of cashcards sold (based on 18.5 k every 5 mins, giving 222k per hour)

 

given that min wage in the UK right now is £7 an hour, for someone to spend 13.49£ on a cashcard for 1.2 million GTA$ the hour and a half they spent at work is less time than grinding RR (rougly 333k in 90 mins)

 

then if we look at the average uk salary of 18k which converts to about £9 an hour it would take about an hour and 10 mins to earn the amount fo 1.2million gta$, as opposed to spending about 5 1/2 hours earning it through reptative grinding...

 

from that sense when looking at time:gta$ cashcards ARE more effective for the "average" gamer who works and plays games in the UK... as the time they took to earn 13.49 at work is about a 1/4 of the time it would take them to earn it in game...

 

 

however i play games for entertainement, i work to pay bills... i wouldnt sacrifice the money i earn (which is considerable more than "average" wages) for the sake of im game dollars... because they accumulate anyway... so IMO spending 5 hours to earn 1.2 million (not that i woudl grind RR for 5 hours, its just an example) is actually MORE entertaining to me than spending an hour in WORK.....

 

so my choice is WORK for an HOUR and BUY 1.2 million gta$

 

or PLAY for 5 HOURS and EARN 1.2 million gta $

 

no i prefer working to playing, i prefer earning to buying... the choice is obvious for me and if i get 5 hours playing a game in the process even better....

Anyway Mo, thanks for that awesome response. In the past, in my Battlefield days, I've purchased Premium, bought all the vehicles/guns because I didn't want to spend a sh*t ton of time grinding for it. I can afford it, so WTF, why not? Did I do it cause I suck at the game? Naw... Ima BF pro from way back. I just went that way cause I could... and I wanted to.

 

I am kinda new to GTAO (Xmas nub) and am still not that bored of grinding/farming. Sure, it was getting a bit rough prior to 1.10, but now that I have access to a whole bunch of new jobs in the menu, I'll be making a new farming playlist and it's going to be 'fresh' still. I haven't felt the need to even consider a Shark Card and my bank balance hasn't dipped below $1 mil since I can remember (and yes, I bought the Roose, new clothes etc yesterday)

 

Shark Cards are an OPTION, nobody is forcing people to buy them. And again, it's just part of the business model. An option for those that don't want to farm the dosh.

Again, that's not what I said. I didn't say that's all they care about. Just was musing about how I thought the biz model was shaping up as I am used to buying 'map paks' and other stuff in the games I play.
