TheGodDamnMaster
I thought it would be interesting to see what you guys think of some of the upcoming horror games coming out this year. Dying Light Release: TBA 2014 Platforms: PC, PS3, PS4, 360, X1 http://dyinglightgame.com/ Dying Light is a first-person, action survival horror game set in a vast and dangerous open world. During the day, players traverse an expansive urban environment overrun by a vicious outbreak, scavenging the world for supplies and crafting weapons to defend against the growing infected population. At night, the hunter becomes the hunted, as the infected become aggressive and more dangerous. Most frightening are the predators which only appear after sundown. Players must use everything in their power to survive until the morning’s first light. FEATURES Survive the Night - During the day, players roam free and scavenge for supplies and weapons. But at night, the world undergoes a deadly transformation: the hunter becomes the hunted as the infected grow more aggressive and numerous, and something far more sinister awakens to stalk its prey. Free Running Movement - Whether tracking prey or escaping predators, Dying Light lets players swiftly navigate the world by seamlessly leaping between buildings, grappling up walls and pouncing on unsuspecting enemies. Open World Environments - Dying Light is set in a vast open world, delivering expansive and varied environments, a wide variety of enemy classes and a hopeless tale of survival where resources are scarce and the infected are not the only threat. Brutal Melee and Ranged Combat - get up-close using a variety of light and heavy weapons including knives, bats, axes, sledgehammers and more exotic weaponry or utilize guns and other firepower to take down enemies from a distance. Choose Your Play Style - Dying Light features four playable characters that can be fully customized and upgraded to match any play style. Craft Your Weapon - Why use a wrench when you can use a wrench wrapped in electrified barbed wire? Dying Light's sizeable crafting system enables players to create a slew of new, more potent weapons and equipment, as well as specialized ammunition. Breathtaking Visuals and Gameplay - Dying Light is the first game powered by Chrome Engine 6, a cutting edge incarnation of Techland's proprietary technology, designed from the ground up for the new console generation, DirectX 11 and other advanced solutions. Routine Release: TBA 2014 Platforms: PC http://www.routinegame.com/ Routine is a first person horror exploration game set on an abandoned Moon base. Your job is to find enough data to uncover the truth behind the strange disappearance of everyone stationed on the Lunar Research Station. A non linear experience lets you explore any part of the fully open Moon base and find out secrets that other players may not! Be immersed with Full body awareness, Deadzone aiming, no HUD, no health bars or points system... you must run, hide and survive the best you can against what lurks in the base. There are no health packs or multiple lives, in Routine there is a Perma death system that will keep you on the edge! Among The Sleep Release: Early Spring, 2014 Platforms: PC, Mac, Linux http://www.krillbite.com/ats/ Among The Sleep is a fascinating independent horror adventure being developed by Norway’s Krillbite Studio. You play as a two-year-old child, exploring their house at night. Hopefully the horror doesn't centre on crawling into your mum and dad's room late at night, after they've been at the wine. From early footage, it seems as if reality begins to falter, lapsing into dream and weird fantasy, the child's diminutive viewpoint warping the world around you in some creatively unsettling ways. These are just a handful of the horror games coming out this year. Which do you think looks the most interesting? Do you have a horror game you're excited for that isn't mentioned above? I think I'm most excited for Routine. Those final seconds of the gameplay video where he climbs up the ladder and the robot sprints up to him from behind actually made me jump. Kiffster
Only one of those I'll probably end up getting is Dying Light. It looks cool, but it might also get very repetitive. I'll try it out though.
Zancudo
The Evil Within looks pretty good, even though it probably won't be scary at all. But you can't go wrong when you have Shinij Mikami as a director and Bethesda as a publisher, can you?
Fireman
Both The Dying Light and Routine don't look much like horror-games to me, but it's all in the definition I guess. Among the Sleep looks pretty cool, atleast a 2-year old child can't shoot a gun and thus you have to hide! That's always more scary then shooting sh*t. Forzum
Daylight is also an upcoming horror game that will be released this quarter of the year. PC and PS4. It will have randomly generated areas each playtrough so you can't just watch a walktrough of it since your playtrough will most likley be entirely diffrent. Looks good, and hope it is, will buy it for sure. < Routine looked really good! Hoping for it to arrive on the next gen consoles. Osho
Not sure, if this counts, but there's this game on Kickstarter called "Dead State: The Zombie Survival RPG" Looks very interesting to me.
Fireman
I just finished the alpha of Among the Sleep and it was pretty interesting. It's more creepy and weird than actually scary at the moment, but you can tell that towards the ends the Alpha went weirder and weirder, basically becoming some kind of dream world. Problem with it is gameplay and misc scary sh*t, I wish they would put in a cuddle toy that changed moods or something, something you don't see unless you look for it and when you see it, you sh*t bricks. OurJud
Love the look and total absence of HUD on the Routine trailer. Thing is if that's only alpha footage the finished game will be probably be cluttered with screen junk. And as I've mentioned elsewhere The Forest looks incredible, and considering it's an indie title, even more so. I do wish they'd used a little more imagination in terms of indicating the interactive elements. I don't like the way areas where you can build or start fires is highlighted in that luminous green, as it would lift me from the game. Dying Light looks like Dead Island with parkour. Again, nice absence of HUD, but I doubt it will stay like that. Also, I'm not sure this game sits happily with my definition of open-world. There seems to be too much going on in terms of avoiding the infected and having your escape routes dictated to you. Open-world, to me, means complete freedom to explore at your leisure, but if there's a dozen infected waiting around every corner that's hardly going to be leisurely, is it? arsenal_fan
Alien Isolation looks pretty amazing, especially the lighting and the fact there is only one Xenomorph and you can't kill it and not use weapons. It actually looks like the first Alien film. Check it out. Edited February 13, 2014 by arsenal_fan
Mista J
Really excited for Dying Light. I'm a sucker for zombie games. And Alien: Isolation looks amazing, an actual horror game unlike the nightmare of Colonial Marines. Looking forward to playing this at night with headphones. Fireman
There's also STASIS coming sometime this year I think. I played the alpha demo, has a nice old-school feel for it, not sure how it'll turn out though, I freaking love the isometric art work though, very well done. More info here as well. OnceAgainYoungFitzpatrick
I don't think Dying Light is really a horror game. I have a hard time classifying a zombie survival game as a horror game. They've been absolute milked to death and zombies really aren't that scary anymore. We have been desensitized to them basically. Games I'm looking forward to are...Outlast: Whistleblower DLCAlien: Isolation The Forest (Don't have a good gaming PC, so I'll probably just watch a playthrough) DaylightRoutineSOMA (2015 release though) Eh... The Evil Within looked alright. There were some good scenes in the demo, but then as soon as I saw you had a gun and could easily shoot your enemies, I lost interest. I just feel like the games that are scariest leave you weaponless.
OurJud
There's a whole heap of survival/horror sims I've never even heard of coming to a PC near you. God I wish I had enough money for a good gaming PC Note, the video in the first clip breaks up weirdly. It's not your PC. Real_Badgirl
I usually hate games where you can't kill your enemies (after a while it ceases to be scary and merely becomes annoying) but Alien Isolation looks like it could be good. I'm looking forward to the Evil Within, as it appears to be a mix of Silent Hill and Resident Evil.
