Michael is well aware that Brad's prison correspondence was faked by Dave Norton, who had arranged the sting on the heist crew. He even intercepted Trevor's initial attempts to write to Brad. Trevor flies to Brad's grave in Bury the hatchet and is confirmed of the whole thing. This increases tension between Michael and Trevor, till the end. If they didn't want any trouble, then they should've just dumped Brad's body into the ocean. That's just plain stupidity from the FIB's part there. Even if they DID have to put somebody's body there, they could've just buried another random person there. If they believed T was dead, and that most likely nobody would come to dig open the grave of Michael Townley, so they thought they just put Brad in there. You can't just ask them to fill it up with sand, that would be suspicious. With Brad, atleast there's a human going in the coffin. Besides, they had to get ride of Brad somehow. It created the dynamic of duplicity and sub-plot and led to the tension and confrontation between Trevor and Michael. These things happen in works of fiction...... The FIB could have simply said that there weren't any remain left, so they buried the coffin without a body (which isn't an uncommon occurance). They needed a body. There had to be a body, it had to be confirmed dead, and it had to be loaded into the coffin. Its not like Dave just took an empty coffin and said "Michael's in here". Its more complicated than that. There has to be a body because its going through multiple professional sources. As long as Dave can get the body to be confirmed as Michael, its all good. I really don't care if it was for the 'tension' of the story, if they wanted to have tension between Michael and Trevor then they should write stories that doesn't have so many plot holes and unanswered questions. I think the reason they put Brad in the coffin is to kill two birds with one stone. Why not put Brad in otherwise your just going to have to get rid of his body another way. Have in mind that the first time you recive a mail from Brad, he asks Trevor why doesn't he comes to visit him.
