universetwisters
FlyLo FM is a radio station in GTA 5. However, FlyLo is also an airline in "Come Fly With Me". Could there be some form of connection between the two?
Raavi
It is named after the main host of the station, "Flying Lotus". SmoothGetaway and iainspad 2 – overeducated wonk who fetishises compromise

I knew Flying Lotus had something to do with it, but I wasn't sure what. Now I know. Is this what they replaced Nightride FM with? I'd much rather hear that than that FlyLo stuff. It sounds all odd and stuff.
Ash_735
FlyLo FM gets a lot of hate, sadly, upon listening it felt like it should have been two stations, or at least two different mixes, the dance beat chill beat stuff and then the rap stuff, it's mixed amazingly well when going from "Garbage" into "Elevators" and into "Evil Grin". universetwisters

I could never tell the difference. To me, it sounds like a dubstep song, pre-drop, playing on a loop while some guy raps over it. I would have rather have heard a "proper" rave station, like Rise FM/MSX FM in GTA 3. Or failing that, at the very least Happy Hardcore. Imagine blaring down a freeway in a riceburner with the cops hot on your tail with some Paul Elstak blaring through the speakers.
ZHPbim
You kids seriously need to expand your musical tastes if you don't dig flylo fm. Flying lotus and the artist he works with (thundercat) are two amazing artists. Anyone unfamiliar with them should get into their music. Thundercats bass playing skills are in a league with Victor Wooten. If anyone knows who that is. Edited February 13, 2014 by ZHPbim

I for one dislike FlyLo FM and much prefer Los Santos Rock Radio. iainspad
I actually enjoyed FlyLo FM; not all songs on it I enjoyed, but I had a flatmate a few years ago who enjoys Flying Lotus. I didn't listen to his stuff back then, but man, I'm ignorant to have missed out on his music beforehand. Hudson Mohawke's track on there is fantastic as are some of FlyLo's own tracks. Also, you gotta love this phone call: Yeah, I'm calling in to request, uh...any music, that ain't 'dis? Stop playing everything you've been playing 'cos your music sounds like a dumpster rolling down five flights of stairs! I believe this is also an adult swim reference, as it's Carl from Aqua Teen Hunger Force. From what I've read, FlyLo did work with adult swim at one point. Ash_735
Yeah Captain Murphy was an alias used for Adult Swim and other stuff, which is why it was surprising to see a new Captain Murphy song on GTAV, "Evil Grin" is a f*cking awesome track, but still I feel the station is very dual styled, it starts of dance beats and FlyLo mixes, then becomes Chill Hip Hop, and then back to the DJ mixes and back to dance beats. Songs like "It's Whack" seem at opposites to "Oh Sheit It's X!", still love the way Aphex Twin comes in at the end. iainspad

If it kept with the styles of tracks like Computer Face RMX, Evil Grin, The Diddler and 100hm as the overall style of the station instead of having a sudden contrast, it would've been solid gold in my opinion. Or am I imagining that? -- Back on topic, I really enjoyed the radio stations in GTA V, but I wasn't the biggest fan of FlyLo FM. I like the odd couple of songs, Windowlicker is the best, but I don't like the general sound or vibe of the station overall. It's not my thing, I've tried it out a number of times but I just turn it off quickly, I find that type of music just a little bit boring to be honest. Ash_735
Yep, there was never a Nightride FM in the game even dating back to when the Radio logs first started. Kavinsky lied, got attention, got his name all over gaming websites, oh, by the way, buy my new album and this iOS game I have coming out soon. Either that or MAYBE Rockstar was gonna give him a station, but since he blabbed about it, they cut the privilege? After all, remember how Jeff Wincot or whoever he is was supposed to voice Casey and ended up being booted from the final version?

Or even do something similar to GTA IV and DLC with stations like ElectroChoc, have Flying Lotus do 2x 30minutes mix, one for the dancebeats, and one for the Alt and Chill Rap, and just have the two alternate depending on the time of the day. Would have allowed each area to be fleshed out a bit more and also mixed in with more fitting stuff. Kavinsky let it known at the end of 2012 and his stuff was coming out 2013."Outrun" the album came out TWO MONTHS later. Meanwhile, looking through the in game files at all the cut music and other stuff, these date back to creation date 2009, there is no single mention of Kavinsky at all, not even one track or any station remains that are linked to "NightRide FM". iainspad

We needed a much more upbeat/jumpy techno station! Edited February 13, 2014 by universetwisters
