Car Randomly Catching Fire After Damage?

Okay, so, first of all, random topic, not very important, but hey, maybe somebody likes speculating a bit.

So, I just posted a picture in another thread on how an NPC crashed into my car, while parking. This:



Soooo, as I'm just playing around a bit, checking some stuff, relaxing, I take the black Peyote, drive it off into the nearby wilderness, beat it to sh*t with a bat. It's fun watching the metal deform, and see what is left after all that. And on a mountain, cops won't bug ya. Sooooo, many strikes of a baseball bat later, the car's pretty beat up, and is smoking. I get in it and leave the game on for a few minutes as I scroll through the forums here, and as I look up a few minutes later, I see the car suddenly catching fire. Now, it was smoking before, but didn't burn. And it just sat there, engine idling, before flames suddenly appeared through the grill. Curious to see what happens, I get out and step back. The flames die, since it's not a heavy fire, but now the car's "totaled"; I can't get in it anymore.

Now, I know, not a very special or exciting story, but I was wondering... Once it hits a certain damage limit, will it just degrade slowly, even when idling? Was it already "destroyed" but with some sorta timer before it catches fire and "dies"? Was I just bordering on said limit? Whatcha think?

I dunno, I figured a random topic, speculating stuff, was a welcome change about complaining about GTA and cheaters, haha... Also, sorry if this is in the wrong topic. Wasn't sure where to put it, since it's mostly just kinda talking about how this game works. Hope that's alright, if not, sorry mods!

It degrades as you go along or if you do enough damage to the engine real fast. Last night i was trying to lower the first left wheel on my stratum with armor when the engine caught fire after 5 shots.

I actually really like that. The fact that cars can kinda degrade. I mean, it's very subtle, very slow, but it's a nice lil detail. Love those lil details, like your car making that lil dinging sound when its warning lights are on, inside, after serious damage to the engine... Perfect!

I'm just really surprised to see it catch on fire after just standing there for, like, 5 minutes of idling.

yes engine condition does degrade once you hit a certain damage limit, stalling will happen more frequently until you catch fire, if you keep the engine at high rpm while its on fire I'm pretty sure it will blow up.

 

Its much more noticeable on helicopters after they nerfed them on 1.08 or so. A buzzard will degrade pretty rapidly once its smoking. Cars just do it much slower.

I notice it in the Cargo bob. I usually get shot to crap when I am trolling picking up cars and it starts smoking so I go to the country to pic up NPC's and after hanging a cop car for awhile the engine starts to spark and after like 5 mins of cutting in and out the enginse freeze and the copter spirals to the earth
