ok so take two said in a share holders event that only if the revenue for GTA online was to see a growth in the upcoming months, they will invest in outsourcing more servers for GTA online. http://ir.take2games.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=86428&p=quarterlyEarnings

as of now the only way they will be able t gain revenue for GTA online s through people buying cash cards as all the other online DLC so far has been free and most of the future updates look to be free.

what do you think?

Biohazard Abyss

No way in hell I'm buying a cash card, no matter the circumstances.

Only way I would is if they offered Vice City as DLC, lmao.

They made a billion in like the first week. That's bs. If they can't handle the uptick in players they should be firing their accountant. With that kind of money they made there shouldn't be any issues.

I would never pay for a cash card. I would maybe pay for new content, but It would have to be pretty good content for me to spend actual money. Vice City as DLC would definitely be a cool thing.

While I have done bought stuff in other MMOs in-game stores, I won't be buying a cash card of any amount for this game what so ever. The price of the cards for the amount they give just isn't worth it. Why should I pay $49.99 for $3.5m GTA$ when I can just go and buy a few different games, or save up an extra $10 for a newly released game, such as Lightning Returns.

With it being so easy to burn thru money online, and the price of everything online, there really is no incentive for ANY player to buy a cash card.

Exactly. The most basic thing in the game and they can't figure it out.

I guess I shouldn't complain at free, but if you say you can't fix it because you aren't making money the word, "duh" comes to mind.

I guess I'm stuck with slow servers.

Never gonna buy those overpriced cash cards no matter what......

agreed. it was also said, they predict march to be a high taking. which leaves people to believe that there is going to be a paid DLC update for something but take two would not spill the beans. " they side tracked the comment and went on to saying it would come from GTA, WWE 2k14 and their other games. but for them to have a big taking there other games are not as big what they where trying to get across. this leaves people to believe, it will be some form of story mode DLC for GTAV.

Doubt the story DLC could come as early as March, but it may be the release of the PC version so let's just wait and see how it goes

I think Rockstar should rent servers. These serves would give you such options as being able to police off, allowing in game cheat codes, weather options, etc. But if you enter a server with cheat codes enabled, your progress doesn't save. It's a simple solution that could net them more then an enough to get adequate servers and have enough to expand online with more of these free simple DLC packs and new features. Battlefield 3 has a successful model of this.

If they think cash cards will be their saving grace they better think again..... I wouldn't even buy one for $0.99, I am more then happy making the money in game through missions and other jobs. Now I will buy tangible paid DLC if they release any.

they also said that all of their games are made for easy ports and that they want to ship they games onto as many devices as they can and they go where the player base is at, and they state that ports of games are basically a quick and easy way to make extra money.

Ok cashcards suck but if you think rstar, is going to spend that on more servers then your deluded. They are a company with shareholders whom they need to make happy so all they care about is money simple as that. They could've made 2 bil and it will still be as it is today.

Who do tell us Mr. Real world business owner expert.

While I see what you are saying, IMO it still doesn't change the fact that I'm sure they are more than able to expand they're servers. It's just not needed at this time or beneficial to them.

Ya'll realize that servers aren't the only thing that R* has been paying for right? Each and every patch and hotfix the implement costs money. Not to mention advertising for the game, marketing, maintaining the website (which includes SC, cuz someone's gotta keep all those stats running), and more importantly the salaries of all the employees of R*. $1 Billion dollars sounds like a lot, but if you honestly think there's some big old vault that they have in a back room where their hoarding all that money, then you're out of your mind. It's called budgeting.

But I can understand how some of you must think that every dime spent is supposed to be spent on solely your needs or wants, the closest thing to income you probably get is an allowance from your parents.

You have no idea how a company works, do you?

A billion bucks sounds like a lot...

Until you add in the cost of the game servers, taxes, maintenance, dev salaries, website traffic/bandwidth (specially the SC) and the lot.

I'd like to see you invest in developing/publishing a game like V, then getting yelled at by 13 year old tweens who think that earnings are complete income just because the only earnings they get (Dad's allowance) is purely for their entertainment.

True....I blame the parent's for raising such sh*t stains.

I have nothing against younger players in GTA...but why is it always the retarded spoiled ones.

Back in the 80's & 90's you had young kids who were savvy in the arcades playing games like Chiller or Mortal Kombat, yet weren't dicks.

you guys are so smart its hard to fathom. The whole they already made money so they should lose money paying for new servers support staff, game designers and all the other people it takes to keep gtaO running while providing new content. If a company is losing money they go in a different direction. They made a billion dollars in game sales on a game they have paid 100s of millions of dollars to create and have been paying employees for over 5 years to create and maintain. If they do not continue to make money the product will suffer. They chose to go with cash cards for that money instead of monthly subscriptions or items that only paying customers could purchase. They could have went the route some games do and sell certain weps, cars clothes and other content for only real currency. They went a route that you can enjoy 100% of the game without paying and you guys still whine like bitches

I think most of us would gladly pay for DLC like that. I won't buy a cash card just on the off chance that they may make good DLC because of it though. Why would they need more servers? The huge influx of players is gone. Only us stragglers are left behind. We don't need more servers. We need more content.

At no point did Take Two actually state what you are claiming in the title of this thread, OP. You've simply inferred it.

There is another way that they could experience growth: more people buying and playing the game. And where did they say "better servers"? Are you sure they're not simply saying "We'll buy more servers when more people play the game"? No one has trouble finding an open server at the moment, so why the hell would they run more at this point?

There is a long way to go in the life cycle of this game. They've not even released the first full-sized story mode or multiplayer DLC (which will no doubt cost money). To assume that Take Two and Rockstar have no long-term plans for this game - and that consequently the possibility of increasing revenue from this point onwards is solely by way of selling cash cards - is simply naive.
