No, I don't think its a mod, just a classic case of the Titan's defense mechanism (Exploding when get hit more than a few times.)

If you really want it get a friend with the CE to drop it for you. It is the ONE weapon from the CE that you will keep permanently in your inv.

 

At least last time I checked I still had mine in my inventory. Dunno if it has been patched, so can anybody else confirm this?
