I finally saved up enough cash to buy a Buzzard, and decided to enjoy by flying around Blaine County checking out all the sites.

I was passing over Trevor's airfield, and what do I see? An entire crew of people trying to get into a Titan. One guy was in the back trying to get an ATV in, another guy was next to his "stunt plane", probably to follow the Titan around. In all there were 5-6 people in the area, obviously all friends.

As I passed overhead, I heard the distinct siren of a lock on. Except it wasn't onto me, I was locked onto the Titan. It was purely by accident, and I didn't want to grief anyone, but for some reason I couldn't hold myself back.

Without skipping a beat, I fired off a single missile. It zoomed out into the horizon then suddenly took a sharp turn downward right on top of the Titan.

Suddenly this pops up on my screen....

I felt horrible. Completely and utterly horrible. Like the biggest douche bag of all-time. I sent a text message to one of the guys apologizing for the "errant" shot. He replied, "LOL, dude that was actually kind of awesome, everything blew up! Don't worry about it dude."

That felt a little bit better, but I think I'm done with my one griefing experiment, I don't understand how people get joy out of it.

Likewise.

I have killed a few innocent players due to thinking they were the guy who just blew my sh*t up a minute ago. I always try to send a message explaining the accident lol

Shame they can't divide the lobbys up so people like us and people like "that" never have to cross paths... only issue being, the nature of people like that... it's only fun f*cking up people like us lol !

It's stupid because the only other option would be to have a police faction for the "good" people... but that is imo bullsh*t because the last thing I would want to do is be the police, I just wanna have fun playing the game, It should be a human nature to also feel it is important your "fun" isn't messing up any one elses... but that seems to be a lost human nature nowadays lol!

you're taking it too seriously

it's a videogame and besides the chance of some random guy in a buzzard exploding everything around you is part of the fun IMO

You know you loved every second and the only reason you apologized is because you were scared sh*tless they were all going to come after you.

Last night of bunch of people in the freeroam where all messing around with the train, we had like 6 or 7 people climbing on it and trying to jump cars and bikes (and we were all strangers mind you) we had another dude trying to land a chopper on it. It was all good fun.

Then some jerk showed up in a tank, destroyed the train and starting shooting us.

What the hell? We were having fun until this prick showed up. The tank needs to go.

How pathetic. How can you feel bad for killing someone? It's part of the game.

I would have messaged them after to wind them up even more. I would also spawn kill their ass till they left.

Lol, is this for real? I'd hate to see how you would react if you had to kill a fly. If you're in a public lobby with all your buddies you have to expect that someone might come along and f*ck your sh*t up for laughs, all part of the atmosphere that is GTA online.

haha, no seriously, I felt really bad for blowing up their sh*t. It seemed like they had this well planned thing going on, a Titan, ATV in the back, a stunt plane. They were trying to have fun doing other things than being a complete psychopath, shooting up everyone and everything they can get a bead on.

If they had killed me a few times, I would actually have felt better. The fact that one of their crew laughed it off as good fun made me feel worse.

That's just being a psychopath. Why do you get enjoyment out of such behavior? Not enough hugs?

SaturdayNight

Griefers are very sick individuals who like to use terms, "Its a video game" But when your enjoyment comes at the cost of someone repeatedly getting spawn killed and virtually not being able to play the game for periods of time, where's the enjoyment on the other end?? Simple, there is none. You did a good thing because you were courteous about it. Not saying you had to apologize but it is a good gesture and keeps the fun circulating. If someone merely decides their type of fun is griefing another then they have serious issues. SERIOUS issues.

P.S

Unless its a vendetta there is nothing cool about griefing others, there is no excuse, there is no purpose other than you are sick. Why? Psychology says so: Overpowering others as enjoyment translates to some fantasy of having power over another overcompensating for an inferiority complex you are suffering from.

They will deny it. They always do because "They know themselves" Yeah... Sure you do.

Of course they would have owned me! It would have been 6 on 1. Apology or not, starting a fight against 6 other players wouldn't end up good.

I apologized because I felt like an idiot kiddy griefer when they were probably just trying to have some fun.

Yeah I think you're onto something. There's a psychological explanation why certain people, like myself, don't find any enjoyment in blowing up someone every time they get a chance, and why others think "texting them to wind them up even more" is enjoyable behavior.

They don't understand common courtesy. Probably a missing dad/mom and was never taught basic life lessons. Thus they rampage like 4 yr olds shooting anything that moves...

Try not to use big words maybe they'll somehow learn.

Lol at this dude, some of the most popular games out there are centered entirely on killing other online players. If people are getting so seriously upset about getting killed in a video game then I think they are the ones with the problem. If someone kills me in GTA I laugh it off, because guess what? It's usually pretty funny to me anyway. Maybe the people who get so upset over getting killed are the ones with the Ego problem.

Killing people in GTA isn't griefing.

yes it is because my feels say so ;__;

@OP: What you did was an accident, not griefing. Even if you did it on purpose, it still wouldn't be considered greifing. Griefing is abusing a game mechanic in a way that wasn't intended for the purpose of harassing other players. (glitching into a wall and killing people as they pass by, for example)

not to mention that any competitive activity out there including sports is pretty much based on overpowering your opponent in said activity

so are all athletes psychopaths now?

or just the ones who dominate others by killing eachother's virtual avatars?

ow and btw "because Psychology says so" is never a valid argument in any discussion

But GtaOnline isn't "centered" on killing other players. That is why there are other activities to do in free-roam so you don't have to kill other players to have fun. That is a fact.

We just have different opinions and unfortunately when our opinion is expressed the trolls crawl from their caves to talk smack on how we are pu$$ies LULZ.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. We don't need the smack talk.

no it's not a fact

most of the activities are instanced and take you out of free roam

so according to your logic free roam is nothing more than a fancy lobby screen or something

than why do we even have guns in free roam? or all the contact options in our Phone to interact with other players? (bounties mercs mugger etc)

the game even promotes the killing of players by placing bounties on them

the only thing about free roam that is a fact is that it's FREE (hence the name)

any1 is free to do whatever they want within the game mechanics

which most definitely includes the killing of other players

and if you can't handle that perhaps invite only or solo session is the place for you

I agree that any1 randomly spawnkilling people for hours on end is an asshole and might have some mental problems

but within this game you're free to do so, and that is a fact!
