How does one maintain a positive.. or good win-loss race record?

Nor was my post hard to grasp.

I don't understand how people struggle to win. It's beyond easy to race on this game.

I was talking about a single persons record not the whole lobby.

So, by your logic the game is so easy that everyone should win every race? You do realise that there has to be a loser in every race featuring more than one player no matter how easy this game is to play right?

You are ignoring the fact that people HAVE to lose. And when more people generally lose because someone HAS to lose, you will always always always have less wins than losses when you look at everyones record combined. Hell, at best, you will have as many wins as losses in every race (1 win, 1 loss in a 2 person race). However, you easily find 9-10 person races which means you now have 8 or 9 times the amount of losses as wins. It;s simple math that almost everyone should have a losing record if the average race includes more than 2 people.

You're essentially tooting your own horn because you're a good racer, but even if everyone was as good as you, multiple people would still HAVE to lose.

I never understood how people had over double losses to wins. :/

I think if you host you tend to get a better result.

I started a new character and had unlocked all mods by rank 20.

I tell ya I was fairly close to breaking even running random races as join or host when I was in the 500 range...then I joined Red Rum Racing and the caliber of opponents was entirely different. I don't care how good you are, if you race consistently against equals or close to it...your record will suffer. I think mine is somewhere around 950/1525 or so now and there is no hope of ever going positive while I'm with this crew lol.

The game has been out 4 months if you're telling me people have not grasped quite how the driving works in this game then that is your own issue.

And nooooooo you don't say.In a lobby of 5 people there will only be 1 winner. I thought everyone won.

What is the point to this thread? As there is only one option that is to win.and be good or very lucky.

You're being an idiot right now. IT DOESNT MATTER IF EVERYONE WAS EQUALLY THE BEST RACER, IF 16 PEOPLE RACE 15 LOSE. THERE WILL ALWAYS BE MORE LOSSES THAN WINS. You just need to stop with your drivel, you're not making any sense.

And you're the one who commented about bad records, so blame yourself about the topic's direction.

I'm done, like talking to a brick wall. You're speaking hypotheticals, I'm speaking in actual reality. THERE WILL ALWAYS BE MORE LOSSES TO BE HAD THAN WINS THEREFORE PEOPLE ARE MORE LIKELY TO HAVE LOSING RECORDS NO MATTER HOW GOOD THEY ARE. Stop asking why there are so many losing records when it's obvious why.

End of line, guy.

I don't find a win/loss record in this capacity to mean anything at all. I would prefer a podium finishes stat, or it as an addition, but I can't imagine that working out too well unless it only applies to races with 4 or more people in it.

Call me an idiot yet can't grasp the simple facts.

You're like.

Uhhhhh how do I win. uhhhh

I'm like duuuh you win by sheer luck or being the fastest racer in that race. .

Anyone who is not good enough get's a loss.

It's very very very simple

You get a positive win/lose by winning races and overall being the better racer than the others in the lobby.

You get a loss by losing to the better racer or being unlucky. .

206/486 here. I had to look it up because after I got to 40 wins I didn't care. I just Quick Job into races through the phone. It's just fun to race, and the more people the better. It's especially fun when everyone has mics and we can jaw at each other during the race.

...

I notice a lot of people neglect to hug inside corners when turning, which can (and usually will) cost a player their lead.

...

You want to go wide-in-slower, hit the corner, and wide-out-faster as an optimal "racing line". It's tough when there's someone right behind you who might take the inside line faster and bump you so you go out of control off the track. There are choices on how to deal with that. I usually slow down and let him overtake me, avoiding contact, I know I'll pass him on the next turn by using the proper technique, and he'll probably go fast-in-sharp then out of control out of the turn. He may even go too fast out of the current turn and wipe out after crossing right in front of you, which is entertaining to witness. It's a huge advantage to go in slow and come out fast, which adds lots of extra speed into the straight.

If I end up racing with a low level, I will sometimes race hard, then stop at the finish line so he can build up his wins. I did this a bunch of times to one guy who didn't have a mic until he finally just pulled up next to me at the finish line, honked, and refused to go through the finish line first. It was a battle of the polite people, haha.

I guess the moral of my story is, don't worry about stats, nobody else cares about your stats, why should you. Just have fun.

this is true,

the higher caliber racers you roll with the more your win/loss ratio will suffer.

the key is not to give a crap...

when i raced with randoms, like Luap i hit roughly even win to loss ratio (somewhere around 120/120), although we're now both in the same crew were on different consoles (hes xbox im ps3) yet exactly the same thing happened to me, a crew was created for clean and fair racing, were both part of it and our records got obliterated... why.. because of this..

what changed wasnt that we we're racing against people that were better than us as such, its more that we were racing with more people in the lobby, so the probabilty of winning is reduced.... i remember joining random races where rooms rarely had more than 3 or 4 players... now it seems every lobby i join with crew members gets full of 8 or 16 players pretty quickly and its a lot more challenging to win... just purely because theres more competition...

i dont race because i care about my stats, i race because i enjoy it.. if your stats are that much of a concern, maybe racing isnt for you (or DM as KDR is the same... parachuting might.. oh wait.. go... ill just stop now.... then theres darts... now theres a sport you can get a pretty even W/L ... as theres only 2 of you playing...)

in fact IMO those who race a lot and race clean are less bothered about w/l ratios than dirty drivers or those who rage quit because they are losing...

to put it bluntly, if your measuring yourself and your existential meaning by the quality of your Win/Loss performance on a game, you might need to reassess your life priorities and define yourself by something more tangible like your career or studies... theres a whole world outside of GTA and noone IRL gives a sh*t about your "records" on a game... its your entertainment so if its not entertaining you either a) stop playing or b) stop caring.

like those YT whores with 50'000 subscriptions but only 3 friends IRL... doesnt make you cool, it makes you a sad loner

Indeed although many people look at your stats as a level of skill.

Then that's their problem. Skill is skill, regardless of record. If you race the best, you're going to lose, but you're probably going to end up better off than someone racing people who have no ability and you constantly win easy races.

Only problem I find with hosting myself is either A. Nobody wants to join or B. One person joins then quickly backs out when they realise its just a one on one race :/

Indeed although many people look at your stats as a level of skill.

many people are also stupid.... thats not my problem its theirs... if someones measuring "skill" by a win loss ratio they are neglecting to factor in the "skill" of those you race against...

i launched a playlist the other night, im a level 128, three guys joined, 1 level 14, one level 29 and another.... level 5....

not to sound arrogant but i won each race, not because im "skilled" but purley because the "competition" was severely imbalanced in terms of mods, experience... hell one guy (think the level 11) had a win loss ratio of 0 wins 3 losses, after the 3 race playlist... errrmmm skill?? not really, jsut a matter of ive actually raced a race before, he hadnt...

needless to say it gave me 3 extra "wins" on my W/L ratio.. a hollow and meaningless 3 wins...

needless to say i had to execute far more "skill" to come 3rd in a race against fellow crew members who know each others style very well, have raced 100's of racers together and know each others weaknesses... gaining an easy lead and retaining it isnt skill, timing passes, utilising slipstremaining and effective blocking (im not talking PIT im talking about being able to prevent others from passing you through awareness) picking and taking better lines than the guy in front... thats skill... and non of that is reflected by a W/L ratio...

if the OP is interested in improving his chances of winning... not boosting his W/L ratio, theres the [GTAO] Racing Tips and Tricks article in the guides and strategies section.

Racing is a good mix. You gotta know when to make a move and have some luck on your side that you even make it to that point in the race with a chance to win.

Skill is a huge part of racing.. Unless you only race straight tracks with catch up.

Theres a few players on my race crew that are awesome and pretty much always win. Its rare for me to win against them because they are so good.

But in public races..Its rare for me to loose.

So it had nothing to do with luck.

be smart and don't let them ram you.

and get better.

make sure when they pit maneuver you that you stay on track.

I usually spin once or twice and I'm on their tail in matter of seconds.

.

on this moment I have 220 wins and 228 loss. it chances every night.

most losses are due to peoples lack of good track creations

Also hope the host has catch-up turned off on gimmick tracks.

Usually you can learn to race with catch-up in mind but on Jumps Jumps Jumps my poor Vacca couldn't clear the bigger ones and I went from 1st to 6th on the last one because I was slowed so much I couldn't clear the bridge. I later learned that jump can be avoided but still, crappy race-handicapping of an already slower car (everyone else of course had Entities and Adders) is a bit lame.

I was in a race that was set to Sports, everyone had Feltzers, I was the only one above level 110+. At the lobby screen where you bet on players, they had records of 21/102, 59/67 or 77/23. I thought this race would be fair since we use the same cars & would have similar mods.. The guy with 21/102 ends up winning by a long way & I almost DNF with all mods purchased & installed.

Just know how to counter the rammers (im a clean driver) if they go to pit you slam you're brakes on so they miss.

Keep them out of your slipstream by swerving or going against traffic so you keep your lead unless there's a corner coming up then let them have the stream so they overshoot the corner.

And get to know your car i tend to race in my banshee and people and leave people in Carbo's behind.

Also if the race starts of on a big straight stay back a little and let them all crash on the first corner then swoop past.

If your a Noob with a better than 50% win ratio your doing very well. Your probably racing fewer people now that R* nerfed racing payouts but still a very good %.

The only way your going to improve that is to use one or all of these less than legitimate tactics;

1. race with your friends and outlaw any contact ("Don't touch me there" Tubes Racing)

2. trade wins with your friends ( basically the same as #1)

3. Bounce, whenever you get behind and don't think you can win, just leave the race and tell them your really busy

IMHO, you dont need these BS tactics, if your winning at that rate just keep it up and stay legit!
