FranklinBellic
I let me just start off by saying I hate to sound so cynical about a game I love, but am I the only one that feels way too many of the wrong people are playing GTA? Seriously, so many people seem to only care about blowing sh*t up and killing people and seem like that's the only reason they got the game. It actually really bothers me. I can't play a single game online without hearing some squeakers on their mic. Also so many people on this forum seem to me like GTA V is their first one. I know this is a good thing that GTA is popular and all, but I feel like before it was something more "underground". GTA 4 was an amaZing game to me, I still think it has the Best story in the series because of its dark and realistic portrayal of being a criminal as well as Nikos dark past combining to make a great story. Now don't get me wron I love five, but I feel like R* tried to hard to make It a Hollywood action movie that would appeal to a more wider audience instead of making the game in true GTA fashion. The UD heist can't help but remind me of Fast and Furious )the Dodge Challengers as getaway cars as well..). There are endless improvements gameplay wise, but I dont feel that should compromise a great story. Just interested in hearing what oher people think. Fallcreek
Haha I guess so. It just gets under my skin sometimes though that people think it's the best one yet when it clearly is not. That's their subjective opinion, You can show why they're wrong, but that doesn't mean they'll buy into it.. GTA V was modernized and catered to the casual crowd. I mean, take a look at the game, the driving physics were dumbed down, 3 seperate aiming modes, missions that hold your hand, and treat you like a child (Fail a section of a mission 3 times? No big deal, we'll SKIP PASS THAT SECTION!) ..but does that make it a bad game? No, not at all. In my personal opinion, GTA V's quite a good game, I love the little details they put into the game, I love the original OST, I love the cast, the game's no modern work of art, and it's sure as hell no masterpeice, but it's a damn good game. It does exactly what it's suppose to do, please the average gamer. You get what you paid for, It's called 'Grand Theft Auto' after all, a well established franchise that's known for it's dramatized criminal lifestyle. Jacking cars, explosions, shooting fools up, all that good stuff. Edited February 11, 2014 by Fallcreek ~Tiger~

They tried to please too many people instead of pleasing the right ones. It would be like if Valve decided to make Half-Life 3 a non linear RPG or something in an effort to gain a wider audience. Although it technically wouldn't be a bad game, it's not what it's supposed to be. That's what I'm trying to say. I don't dislike the game at all, but it's far from being a god tier amazing game of all time like people make it up to be.
K20
can't do anything online. the average person who works and has only a few hours a week to play it is hopeless with GTA Online. i played it for a while then people got money through glitches. and cheats. blowing/killing every 5 minutes. no chance to do anything. annoyed the sh*t out of me. Blondarus
Comes down to who you're playing with. I have an awesome crew and we play together a lot, so for the most part we can smack down anybody who's annoying us
killahmatic
Seriously, so many people seem to only care about blowing sh*t up and killing people You always find out quick who the least mature ones are in the group. Thankfully I'm not an online player, but I have seen countless videos of people going after everyone and giggling about it while the rest just want to play and have fun. It would ruin the experience for me, and not only that, but killing people wouldn't feel rewarding if they weren't willing fighting back. Anyone can kill someone who's not prepared for it. Just one of the many reasons why I'm more than OK being an offline player. Splitscreen was the best. woggleman
GTA hasn't been underground since Vice City. SA is the highest selling PS2 game ever so it is has been mass market for a long time. I say the more the merrier. Many people have played it for the chaos aspect for a long time.

It just gets under my skin sometimes though that people think it's the best one yet when it clearly is not. But that isnt for you to decide. Everyone has different taste and would like different things in a GTA game that others would probably think is stupid. So for you to come out and say that GTA V isnt the best GTA isnt true. I personally think that GTA VC is the best of the series but that doesn't mean that everyone else feels the same. If they dont like GTA VC I never have felt the need to tell them that they are wrong. Why? Because that wouldn't be accurate as everybody has there own feelings and opinions on the series. Blingy and Blennerville
woggleman
IV is a great game but it was more of a departure for GTA than V is. V in some ways returned to the PS2 era style of gameplay. Blennerville
restlessmind
I think it's more important to take V on its own merits instead of comparing it to IV.. There's too many threads comparing the two and most of them are from people with some sort of sentimental attachment to the older game. Both are good and bad for different reasons but not necessarily one better than the other.. But, looking at how the things have evolved, V is better technologically, the complexity of the graphics, AI, and gameplay is above the previous versions. Is more complex better? that could be debated.

Uptown Rider
Players complain constantly about small things that shouldn't matter. They automatically claim the entire game sucks because of one small minor detail.

Well, I had tons of fun with this half game then... and am willing to pay $$$ for DLC... but it better take into account Singleplayer.

There are endless improvements gameplay wise, but I dont feel that should compromise a great story. Just interested in hearing what oher people think. I get the impression you didnt play the PS1 and PS2 games at release given your view that heavy focus on story is very important - imo story is something they should not put huge focus on (just keep it simple) - it is not what GTA has been about and people who say GTA4 was good because of its serious story imo dont know what GTA is about. For me the last 2 games has strayed off the path GTA is really about, 4 and 5 just dont have that same feeling, that magic!, that the older games had. The most important thing in a GTA game is a good world/environment that has atmosphere, feels alive and has lots of stuff to do in it, good simple character(s) and good script/missions that take place in that world. Dont get me wrong, its important to have a sound story but imo it should be a simple story like those in GTA 3(revenge and redemption), VC (building an Impire) and SA (Going back to the Hood and becoming BIG time) are better suited to GTA games compared to the more serious story like that in GTA4. With GTA4 its almost like its not even a GTA game (its more like The Getaway or something, which is a bad thing), GTA5 is better but still not great. For me 5's story still had lots of issues and was not believable - the whole Trevor/Michael relationship with their past and brad thing and how Franklin was just randomly thrown into the mixer. The World in GTA5 just didnt have that magic! feeling and overall the city felt empty and boring (the desert area around trevors had much more character to it imo) With movies like Point Break, Heat, Beverly Hills Cop(especially no.2) Terminator 2, Training Day, Hollywood Homicide, Falling Down, To live and die in LA....etc. there is a strong LA fibe - you can really feel the mood and atmosphere of the city in those movies. I was hoping with GTA5, R* would use movies like these and others like them to set the mood for Los Santos but i feel they failed to capture that LA mood and the city just has not atmosphere and feels flat - I also didnt get any bankjob or robbery or money feel to the game at all - to me it felt like a game about betrayal and back-stabbing(Michael and Trevor). GTA SA had that Los Santos in the 90's vibe down well (though the other citys were very dull and empty). GTA Vice City is the best GTA game in my personal opinion (it captures the magic! of the city and time perfectly), though i get why lots of people choose San Andreas for its size and scope (it just wasnt as good as VC overall imo, it felt a bit too cartoony and its script and most of its missions were not great), VC wasnt too serious and the story worked well with it building an empire feel. My time as Trevor was by far the best and the closest thing to to a true GTA game - that was a lot better more fun than GTA4 imo, but The Ballad of Gay Tony is still the best GTA experience ive had this gen since San Andreas in 2004, it probably even beats SA for how full of fun it was (the only thing that hurts it are to bad/realistic mechanics).
