Sup3rman
I think ony posting pics or videos of WRC or rally is pointless and useless. But to discuss about the eras and cars indepth is much more interesting.

But to discuss about the eras and cars indepth is much more interesting. Indeed. I love Gp.B as much as the next man but for me rally is as much about the lower classes. For instance, my personal favourite is Walter Röhrl's Porsche 924 GTS as driven during the 1981 German Metz Rally. Sup3rman
In those days, even Ferrari's were used in WRC and not just on tarmac. For example, the 308GTB driven by non other than Stig Blomqvist. But absolute favourites are still Group B machines. It was like formula one back then, almost no limitations. Cars as powerful as possible, huge spoilers and every other doo daa.
sivispacem
The Gr.4 308 is awesome too. Brilliant looking thing, like a Stratos on steroids. El Dildo
it's not actually rally (although it is on the FIA calendar, and it used to be dirt, paved only recently) but this Summer I'll be going to the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. starts in June. one of the oldest and most famous races of its kind, this will be my first time attending and I cannot wait. I'm buying a new tripod and vibration-reduction lens for my Canon specifically to shoot this event. Edited February 14, 2014 by El_Diablo
Lurch
I'd say time trials like Pikes Peak and stuff are pretty similar to European tarmac-stage rally events. Our local hill climb has a rally class. Had an integrale and a newer Evo X running it last time.
sivispacem
Pikes Peak used to resemble a rally stage, now it's a very long tarmac hillclimb. Sup3rman
I agree with Sivi. Seeing the groub B rallycars driving the Pikes Peak and doing scandinavian flicks all the time was much more exciting than the tarmac hill climb now. Not to say the later isnt exciting. El Dildo
yes well unfortunately for us, Pikes Peak is also a normal public highway the rest of the year. leaving it dirt was not good for local traffic.
Sup3rman
Yep, thats a bit of a downer. Anyway, yesterday i listened the sound of Audi Quattro S1-s for hours on youtube. Just amazing...such noise. And from 5 cyl. engine.

On the plus side, it is at least a lot faster now. Sebastian Loeb set an 8:13 last year. For the past 2 decades, the times pretty much always sat around the 10 minute mark. Obviously that time never would have been possible if 30% of the course was still dirt and the cars were running dirt tires.
