universetwisters
Don't make fun of my name. What kind of name is Universe Twisters for a kid? Either a name for a very smart kid raised by two astronauts or some hippie kid who's parents were baked out of their minds when they were naming them during the summer of love. Imagine that conversation forty years later. "I'd like to rent a car." "What kind of car?" "The red Honda outside." "And what is your name?" "Universe Twister Smith." You'll be laughed out of the car rental place by then. Shah Sam and Fallcreek

Finn 7 five 11
Native English speakers can't pronounce my name well, so they just say Mic (pronouced Mick) However everyone else just calls me Michiel, though I've also been called Mug, Maickel, Michael, Mitchell, Michelle, Michel, Mike, Michelangelo, Emil, Emile, Emiel, Mitch, Mitchel, Mark and almost every other name with a M in it. Mine is very similar, spelled differently I don't understand how it's hard to pronounce though, people just can't do it. People call me Miku. DEALUX
Well, I'm not 14 anymore, so I go by my real name. I use my first name as a username on this forum and that is usually what I go by in real life too. I don't exactly like shortened versions of it and people who are close to me use the full version (that is how I can usually tell when someone thinks we are close friends, when they call me by my full first name). I used to have a nickname that I briefly used when I was 13-14, but I always thought nicknames in real life were silly. The nickname was Nightmare, which I came up with by reading the last four letters of my first name backwards ("nait" spells like "night"). Nowadays, I only have a musician nickname (I used to go by my previous nick as a musician too, but it didn't fit the style of music I was making) which is qb (supposed to be spelled "cube"). This one was inspired by a dream I had. Only my best friend at the time knew my nickname. I liked it too, but it sounds kinda dark and it doesn't fit my personality at all. Maybe if I were a goth or something. I said that because people who know you well enough tend to call you the way your close friends and family call you (since they are close enough to notice it). I very rarely get called a short version of my first name (which in my native language would be Cristi; it sounds girly, I know) by close friends or family. Jim
My real name is James, however most people call me Jim. Funny thing is, whenever I get called by my real name someone becomes baffled since, for some reason, most people think Jim is my real name. So until recently, I thought that it was universal for everyone to know Jim is a nickname for James. Edited February 11, 2014 by Zxirius

The majority of people on this planet with longer names have them shortened, occasionally by personal choice, but generally by choice of your peers. It's simply more convenient in speech to have the name shortened. Back on the subject of musicians having a stage name universetwisters

It's simply more convenient in speech to have the name shortened. While I think Carlin was a great comedian, I didn't agree with most of his more extreme opinions. If anything, nicknames have a more practical purpose when they are used in a musical context. It makes it easier for people to remember your artist name and thus to find your music, than it would if you were to use your real full name. I actually considered using my full name for a while but I stuck to the nickname I have know since I like it. It's simple and meaningful. El Dildo
I don't have a nickname per se. but ever since middle school most of my closest friends have simply referred to me by my last name. being that my last name is relatively unique, it sort of works as a nickname because no one else would ever be mistaken for me. at the very least, I have yet to encounter anyone in my 26 years of life on Earth with the same last name as I. unfortunately I won't be sharing it with any of you. unless you can guess it. I'll tell you if you're right.
