~Tiger~
Blaine County is huge and because the story mode is so small, there were obviously lots of locations that weren't explored during the course of the game, and it was left up to the player to discover for themselves. What's wrong with that? The areas are only 'underutilised' if they are unexplored, and that is down to the individual player. You see a lot more if you get out of your car, walk around, take photos, climb on things, open things, move things etc etc. And you see a lot more when you explore at leisure, unlike when, on a mission, you are driving at high speed or concentrating on staying alive! There is such a massive amount of detail to discover. This is why the tedious collectable tasks exist. To force the player to venture into otherwise.unvisited areas. I have been playing GTA V daily since last October and I see dozens and dozens of new things every day. fac316
vengenceniko
I think there are several reasons for these locations. First of all, they add something to explore. If you go out and explore the map, you will find tons of locations that you haven't seen before and that adds an incentive to explore. If rockstar did use all of these locations then there would be people complaining there is nothing new to see after the story. When the dlc's come out, they will most likely use a lot of the locations untouched by the story, similar to what happened with IV. So in that case these places are potential gta online/single player dlc deathmatch locations, races, hangout places, and mission locations. Other than that these places are just really a demonstration of rockstar's attention to detail. They make the world feel livelier and better looking. I mean, would you rather just have empty patches of ground? Besides, gta locations are only as utilized as you (the player) make them. Try to have a shootout or experiment or something in these locations.

daliakiller
Exploration factor seems a reasonable excuse to me. But FZ, Bollingbroke penn, and several other places would lovely fit in a mission.. And come on guys, what is so important or even so cool to discover inside of this places? 2 f*cking seconds inside of it and you are down anyways.. Little to no exploration in this places.. EDIT: I understand FZ has Lazers and Buzzards and all of that sh*t.. but you get my point. Edited February 12, 2014 by daliakiller
universetwisters
I do recall a pre-release screenshot of V that had Trevor sitting in a car with the prison in the background, but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Mr Oraange
Nice to see I'm not the only one who's been thinking about this. Morningwood, Grapeseed, Harmony, Palomino Highlands, and Tongva Hills definitely need more attention.

GTAfreak52
I am surprised this has not been mentioned yet but the casino/racetrack. I just cannot wrap my head around the fact that a game centered on money had no gambling in it. Especially since most recent GTA games have featured it. It sucks that I will have to pay for something (dlc) which I feel should have been included in the game from the beginning.
mastershake616
The problem is that the map is too big and there are fewer missions than last GTAs. Hope a dlc with 60 more missions explore this places, and adds some features. 69 missions + stranger & freaks Do you really think thats enough friend? 69 missions, and before each heist, two or three heist setups that is somewhat ridiculous, like stealing a van from bugstars, or even worse, GO BUY f*ckING MASKS AND CLOTHES... i mean, from this 69 missions, 60 were really missions, if not less of it.. Strangers and Freaks? i honestly dont gave a single f*ck about that.. just excuses to do some real stupid missions that doesn't connect to history or adds nothing to the plot.. for me, all of this s&f non sense could be changed into real good missions. what about random events? i would prefer RDR like random events, that is REAL random.. you know what i mean. not the same people at the same places, saying the exact same thing to different characters every f*cking time.. that is intense bulsh*t, in my opinion Had to. CantThinkOfOne2013
It's pretty easy to say that the prison is a waste of space, but would you prefer it to be a blank patch of land? If you ask me, the prison does serve a purpose, if you want to obtain a prison bus, that is where you go, and also it is just another location to explore, I feel that the prison in GTA IV was more underutilized than the one in GTA V, yeah, sure, a few missions started there, but there were no unique vehicles to obtain there. To be honest would it make a huge difference if there was a blank patch of land there? I mean you say it serves as a spawn point for the prison bus, but I don't see how this makes it any less under-utilised. It's not like everyone cares about that. I guess GTA IV's prison didn't add anything substantial, but it was a mission location so players had to use it and it was in the last mission in TLAD. Besides it served as another explorable location just a much as what it does in GTA V. Since I like vehicle variety, the spawn point for the Prison Bus is sort of a big thing for me. I'm not saying that GTA IV's prison was under-utilized in general (as you said, it was another explorable location, and who doesn't like that?), i'm just saying that I felt that GTA V's prison was utilized slightly more due to me being a sucker for vehicle variety. PaulDPearl
Basically: Except the Airbase... but yeah.. plus I totally agree with OP about prison break - in fact... we're teased with it as Trevor's brother is supposed to be busted out but it turns out the brother is dead... f*ck that - we should have had something there The lack of use was copied into the online version as well... there's literally NOTHING up there but stores to rob (online). It's nice to see the mountains in the horizon but in reality they are completely useless. Edited February 12, 2014 by DIEXEL daliakiller
