what would you rather have for GTA 6..another contemporary setting or a period piece....

pretty much every gta has been contemporary (not counting the london expansions or gta 2 future setting or whatever.... talking 3 and up)

Vice City and San Andreas being the only period pieces... GTA 3, 4 , TLAD, TBOGT, GTA 5, have all been contemporary settings

now since we probably wont see GTA 6, until 2018-2019-2020 at the least....i for one rather see an other period peice, maybe going back into the 60s-70s around that time or something

if you list period piece, what setting would you want

I'm already bored to always repeat the same but anyway...:

- 1980’s. Crack epidemic, high crime rates, dangerous cities, big cars...

- 1970's depending on the setting. For example, Las Venturas or even if they came back to Vice City (late 1970’s with the cocaine trafficking rising).

I'm really tired of the contemporary settings...

I vote for Period Piece (Lol i thought it meant modern time until i read your Post) but anyways anytime period would be great. but i am wondering why every articles/thread i see today is about GTA 6,kind of weird :)

Here OP read this:

Honestly I'll be fine with either. Both options have there positives and there negatives but rest assured no matter which they choose people will bitch about it.

Period piece for sure. I don't know about you guys, but i'm kind of tired of R* satirizing modern culture, even if it is well done for the most part. Something set in the 70's would be cool, as Roadrunner71 suggested.

I'll settle for either so long as we aren't treading the same old ground.

That said, I like what period pieces offer to otherwise neglected locations. There's so much potential to draw from.

Carcer City is often used as Rockstar's satarical metaphor for the death of American industry. Let's bear witness to the decline firsthand.

A late 1960s or 1970s setting would revitalise San Fierro, incorporated as part of a larger Northern San Andreas.

As seen in the Las Venturas concept thread, the location during the 70s as part of a larger state would be immense.

Give me a period peice. Rockstar has seemed to neglect the 70's so much, which is a shame because the entire decade is as ripe for satire as the 80's and 90's.

Hmmm this is a tough one. Whilst periods of yesteryear are cool I think I'd miss the modern advancements GTA IV and GTA V have introduced to the series such as internet, e-mail, fully functioning phones etc. I could see this stuff being taken for granted in a period timed GTA.

This is actually a really good point for the period peice, I mean your phone is a HUGE part in the HD universe compared to it's III counterpart. It kept you immersed in the game, and generally just made things flow more fluently..I mean, you can call your contacts to get input in the story, take your friends to hang out, customize it, recieve texts that expand on dialogue, it's a hub for communications. If it were a period peice, you'd have to return to the basics of that time, and ultimately, GTA would be returning to it's roots too lol. If you wanted to see your friends to hang out, or get input, you'd have to go to travel to their house to see them instead of you phoning them and picking them up at a pre-determined location (It would sort of act like the therapist cutscenes in GTA V, and sort of like the 'girlfriend' system in GTA SA, you had to go to their house to go on a date)

I would prefer another contemporary game as I like how the games set in the modern day show problems with the modern day, however, the period piece games will always have the better soundtracks.

On a side not, I am actually worried how GTA VI will turn out due to the GTA V hate.

The Next 4 GTA games would be great.and it only few people that hate GTA 5,a game that broke 7 GWR,earned $1bn in 72hrs (3 f*cking Days) and after almost 5 months of release 33 million people in the world own a copy of GTA 5.Yeah GTAO is frustrating and a Let Down to many people but will get better soon.

San Francisco, or all three cities, LS, LC and VC based in the 70's or 80's.

Omnia sunt Communia

I think it honestly depends on where and why? It is obvious why Vice City and San Andreas were set when they were, there would need to be similar justifications for setting a new game in the past in my opinion.

I personally don't think a modern day Vice City would ever work, but at the same time a game set in, say, 1970s Las Venturas would be perfect! ;)

Period Piece hands down tired of all the modern day stuff nothing fun happens anymore...

Lets go back to a darker time :)

Back in the day they had payphones, pagers, and newspapers wanna make a call? use a payphone want to see what's going on in the world? read the paper, buy a car go to the car dealership take a test drive etc... only thing I would miss is the GPS if they decide to remove it to make it seem more authentic if we go back in time.

MythicalCreature

Though probably Rockstar will set it as a contemporary, I would go for period piece. 1993 to be exact. The Crack epidemic was in full throttle, crime rates maxed out, homicide rates maxed out, police trying to take new maneuvers to reduce crime (C.R.A.S.H. in San Andreas made a good portrayal of that). All in all, in 1993 you could get the goldmine for everything you want. Though 60s, 70s can also be cool, there's always the drawback of not getting enough kick on communication. We're all yawning about contemporary settings but we're all forgetting about cellphones in the process. How the hell can you recieve calls from anyone at anytime if you don't have a cellphone (apart from payphones and landphones)? Pay Phones may come up as a solution but somebody calling up the entire city or state just to get to you and have some conversation with you to basically tell you that you're fired seems unrealistic and ignorant. And pagers may seem good enough but the first was introduced in 1976 (?) and all it would do was 'bleep'. For two-tones, you need to wait till the late 70s. Then there's the 80s. You now do have cellphones, and as RoadRunner said, crack epidemic, dangerous cities, big cars make them cool too. Nonetheless, it isn't as advanced in technology as the 90s, which necessarily doesn't mean that it's bad, if you don't really care that much. Now, the 90s. With the cellphone matter resolved, i'll jump straight to the content - High, really high crime rates. Look up major cities' crime rates, New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington, Baltimore, New Orleans, Los Angeles, all have all-time high crime and/or homicide rates in 1993, or close by. There are some exceptions, though. Now i'm gonna go to technology. Cellphones, pagers, papers, computers, phones, and say hello to the internet, which may not be that widely used but still a good place to gather knowledge.

Ultimately, I just defended why 1993 is such a good setting for me, but that's just me. Everyone else may like other periods for their own good reasons, and that's why they're posting it.

And I'm out.

First a GTA: Carcer City in the 80s, then a GTA 6 in modern days.

Yeah bro,the first Next-Gen GTA should be a Spin-off game set in a new location, then in two/three years GTA 6.

I've been saying this for such a long time, however I do think that before GTA VI there should be two period piece GTAs.

enough present day USA, I want London today or in the 60s/70s

I know they said the next GTA will stay in the US but even George Lucas changed his mind about a new Star Wars trilogy so you never know

True Talk bro.But if Rockstar wanted to see how fans would love a GTA game set in London sometime in the future, the could just Remaster GTA London 1969 (1999) with HD Graphics and

3rd Person view,i am sure it will sell millions.

Robocop did it and i am sure it was great.

For a minute there I thought you were being serious.

Agreed - the internet, email, smart phones etc... are pointless and annoying, they take away from the gameplay rather than add to it.

I have not seen any good arguments for contemporary

(I know you were actually being serious :pp )
