I'm sick of 'steering' my character

It's not as drunk as Niko but why the hell are we steering characters? Why not just push and move like games with better on-foot handling?

I think he's talking about the walking controls and how he doesn't like the way they are.

But you are being a little vague op, you should explain..

Pretty sure he means he'd prefer it to be like in Assassin's Creed. The character would always run in the direction of the stick I.e. right, he runs right. Where in GTA the character will turn to the right of whichever way he is facing, so right on the stick may be left on the screen.

if that makes sense

I thought GTA's walking mechanic is okay. It's pretty basic.

Does OP mean he would rather the game been in first person?

That might be a cool option for sure, but yeah I agree with most people that the mechanics of how you walk and run around are pretty good. I wish you just didnt have to spam tap the A button to run fast.

Really walk or run why is there an in-between???

OP Translation:
I dun leik dis tings, R* iz crap.

Adapt OP, adapt.

The moving animations are fluid and very organic for the most part...there's rarely a problem with them that can't be fixed by adapting.

Now the hit detection & cover system...those can be a bitch during critical times.

I thought it would be dreadfully obvious to anyone who had played both another 3D game in which you control a human and GTA V. Or IV, which was so screwy it was like Niko had to jog in a circle every time you wanted him to turn around. This isn't about having the parkour of Asscreed, it's about simply being able to turn and move where I want without foot dancing first. The days of dying or falling off a ledge because of sloppy character controls should have been way behind us with the PS2 generation.

As to the exact meaning of 'steering,' that's just what it is. You push in a direction and (until the camera snaps, altering that direction) you tumble in that direction, guiding your inaccurately hurtling body with the same stick propelling you forward.

Yeah nah I know what you mean, I hated the way Niko could barely f*cking walk out of his room without having to lean on the walls for support it was so pathetic to watch. So many times i have fallen off rooftops in this game as well because in order for him to turn around he has to take like 5 steps forward or some bullsh*t.

Oh, that. No, I think it's fine. The Warriors did it.

Whenever I play GTA 5, I hate being on foot. When I play Saint's Row, I hate being in a vehicle. Rockstar knows how to make great worlds. Volition knows how to make great activities. Why can't they be friends?

the movement is great

you're not some kind of omni directional rolling robot like in most other games

you have feet which are used for walking

only thing I really mind is the jumping

if I hit a ledge grab it for crying out loud

you can do it if the guy is right up against the wall but as soon as there's a 2 inch gap he just smacks into the wall and falls down

I don't like that u gotta do U turns to turn around rather than just doing an about face. Like changing directions on a stairwell...fukin hilarious he usually trips or falls off fire escapes to his death

Movement is great. Euphoria is the best intelligent rag-doll system in any game. Just figure out how to grab ledges god damnit!

One day we'll have games controlled by brain waves and your character will do exactly what you want just by imagining it.

what are you on about?

you don't need to do U-turns

stairs can be a bit wonky sometimes because there's like an invisible track you snap onto or something

People will complain about anything.

its a game we spent money on .. we have the right to talk about the handling of characters and such..

and I agree it is very clumsy feeling, and not sensitive at all .

People complaining about player mechanics i think are very justified. Its probably the most horrible mechanics i've ever seen.

I love GTA, but why is it so clunky? From walking, to running, falling and aiming. Everything in the game world is so detailed and awesome... Yet the actual player mechanics are really bad.

Its as if they barely put any effort into it. If you look at saints row, that games player mechanics are very smooth.

I think thats R*s biggest disapointment in most of their games. They are beyond everyone when it comes to to actual open worlds, but they can't seem to get a grasp on great player mechanics. Hence their freaky obsession with auto aim.

Strange thing is.. I find aiming and shooting easier and more smooth while driving a car..lol

It seems the OP is complaining for the sake of complaining. If you use both the left stick to control the character and the right to control the game then it is as good as it is ever going to get.

Speaking of the Parkour in Assassin's Creed. I have seen GTA online videos of people doing Parkour. Wtf is this sh*t? I can climb lazily over a wall? I can barely jump over a small fence, in fact I am sure I can't even clear a small fence in this game. There is no mechanism to roll as you land from a great height to prevent injury(Only a set one from a certain height). These must be the most intensely sh*t and boring videos on the internet. I'm sure Honey Boo Boo Child would be a better watch than some grand dickheads doing GTA parkour.
