How do you launch in a street race?

This GIF sucks but it shows the white Elegy getting a significant lead off a launch.

Does anyone know the specifics behind how to launch in GTA 5?

Is there a substitute for the clutch in the game that idk about, that can be held down whilst revving all the way up before acceleration?

EDIT: This has nothing to do with the pre-designed races, it's free-roam drag racing/street race.

Press the gas ONLY ON GO. It's called a turbo start.

That's for pre-designed races.

He's talking about for, a drag race in free roam, where it is just improvised.

I've been trying to nail launches as well but, the wheels just seem to spin until 2nd gear, but if you do it too gently your opponent is already ahead.

Correct, don't rev the engine at all during the beginning of the race it will cancel the turbo start. Thats why everyone honks. If you rev you loose the upper hand in the beginning. Also if tailing another player will make a slip stream that will boost you infront of said player.

So like, impromptu races?

Hold handbrake and gas it. Worked for me at least.

You can rev all you want before it starts, just don't be on the gas between "1" and "GO".

Pretty sure there isn't even a turbo start in impromptu races. I hit the gas on GO the same time I would in a regular race, and nothing happens.

There is a lot here that havent read the thread by the looks of it....

Im not aware of any way to get a better launch in FR. Could it be possible the Elegy is just better at acceleration than the Sultan next to it? I really dont know. It certainly is a big difference.

Cool gif btw. Looks like it should be something from f&f.

Yeah, the Elegy has a significant advantage you are correct. the image is too small tbh to show what I'm talking about. I can link you the video and time frame if you want.

The Elegy is a 4 wheel drive (maybe all wheel but I don't think R* made them any different).

With all 4 wheels under power the wheels would barely spin if at all giving you a better launch than a 2 wheel drive.

That would be my guess in this case.

I thinks the Sultan is also AWD too.

OP I may be wrong but I would put it down to a combination of a faster accelerating car and a better launch. There is no turbo start like races but you do have a little control over your launch. Mash the accelerator and it will break into wheelspin, too little it will bog down however if you gradually increase throttle correctly its like slipping the clutch and you are able to get a cleaner launch. Its is hard to tell by the small gif but it could be the elegy had a good launch and the sultan driver simply mashed the accelerator. Again I may be wrong but thats all I could put it down to.

It almost looks like it's a Futo that it's racing though... A better video would help a lot. Futo's have terrible wheel spin if your not decent at launching.

Pretty sure its a sultan. The rs stripe down the side is what gives me that impression. If it is a futo that explains it though.

Edit: After looking at the video closely I cant even see a stripe now. It is very hard to tell but I still think Sultan

Sultan with lime green color and carbon hood with the hood scoop.

Straight out of Need for Speed. Wow.

Anyway, I think the Sultan's just slow. It's more of a grippy mountain climber than anything.

Damn.... Your right.

The only explanation that I can come up with then is someone doesn't know how to handle their sultan. It probably wouldn't beat the Elegy but it should be closer.

wholly ricey sultan is right!

Also.. Who mods a Statum? Of all the cars in this game... :p

Stratum has a rare "Twin Turbo" version, I think. That's probs why.

Plus, come on. Not everyone adheres to the common cars. I used to drive a Regina, and I'm planning to get an Asterope once I find out if it has a "not killable from the roof" version.
