theNGclan
Apparently there is this new show in some other country (might be Iran or Pakistan. I don't know, honestly) that features a super hero wearing a burka. Apparently people are throwing a fit over this and are planning to boycott the show. What's your stance on this? Is it sexist propaganda or just a show influenced by religion? I personally couldn't care less if the show is sexist or not. It's not in my country and not hurting anyone around me, so I couldn't feel anything when viewing this site. http://burkaavenger.com/ Edited February 10, 2014 by theNGclan

Tacymist
Just got done watching that episode, I liked it. It's just saying that females have a right to an education too, there's nothing wrong with that. I agree with it. Mr. House
lmfao this is hilarious. Whatever though, fantastic. Anything that pisses conservatives off is fine in my book. Moonshield and 018361
universetwisters
I was just gonna post that my buddy just showed me this on skype, but then I found out that YOU were the dude who posted it OT: I think it's a good concept. My knowledge of Islam isn't that good, so I'm not sure if it's the Quaran (or however it's spelt) that says chicks absolutely must wear Burkas or if it's the governments that say that, but nonetheless, still a good idea. GTA_stu
I read the title and thought it would be some right wing extremists ripping burkas off women in a western country. They should totally make that though. I mean it's a little out there, but you know so was Brass Eye. Killerdude, Moth and Finn 7 five 11

lil weasel
I liked it. From what I saw it look eggcellent. the fault is that the woman shows her face, and is being for the educated. I can see why some would be offended: After all girls/women with educations? How does that help with the farming and kitchen work All that money being wasted on girls? Otter
What utter garbage. The new Miss Marvel, however? That sh*t's progressive.
Mr. House
Looking for progressive ideas in a medium in which the main influence is still Steve Ditko, and Alan Moore's influence has been butchered beyond recognition is probably a bad personal choice. D- Ice
It is very interesting seeing that the biggest motivation of the conservative Muslim character is the promotion of education. I think there is an important political/social point being made by this cartoon - namely one to dispel the notion that conservative Islam is opposed to female education. It is trying to show that, just like the Burka Avenger, you can be both conservative Muslim and for women's education. Conservative, or rather Extremist, Islamic thought on female education has particularly come under fire after what happened with Malala Yousafzai - the outpouring of international support even caused the Taliban commander in Pakistan to reverse his stance against female education, and distance himself from the assassination attempt. I liked it.From what I saw it look eggcellent. the fault is that the woman shows her face, and is being for the educated.I can see why some would be offended: After all girls/women with educations? How does that help with the farming and kitchen work All that money being wasted on girls? Sorry, I'm not sure if you're joking/being sarcastic, or what exactly you're joking/being sarcastic about. But I'd just like to say that basic education is empowerment of the people. Even in massively under-developed countries like Afghanistan, basic numeracy and literacy skills will greatly empower the people. We aren't talking about master's degrees here - just a basic handle on reading, writing and basic science, so that they can read the instructions on sowing ther crops, cooking the meal, or just know what's going on in the world around them.
