Battleships : something different ?

Hey guys,

(Sorry I know there is a lot of text, only read if interested)

Lately I've been working on an idea, using the Content Creator. And I wanted to share that idea, maybe having feedbacks on it or opinions on how to improve it. Cause it's the first time I make a map like this, and also the first time I see one like this, pretty uncommon.
Battleships. Just like the famous board game (also known as naval battle in other languages), but GTA edition.

Basically within the TDM tool, spawning teams on 2 different islands far enough from each other, both team having only boats (11 boats of all kind per team + 1 submersible for the sneaky ones). Where you have to take a boat and meet the ennemy team in the middle of the ocean and fight there.

As of now, I've chosen the east coast as location.
The "battlefield" is pretty large, marked with buoys, it's globally the size of the Alamo Sea. It takes around 30 sec in boat to reach the middle.

 

You can find it here (PS3) if you want to see what I'm talking about BATTLESHIPS East Battle , I'm not asking anyone to play, but you can try it if you're interested. As always, 16 players for the best..

 

 

 

First thing I wonder is, is it too big ?
I know some people don't like to loose a second "traveling", I could have used the Alamo sea, but I told myself it wouldn't be that smaller and maybe people would camp on the ground instead of fighting in the sea. I also wanted to avoid spawn camping, and spawn sniping, if the 2 teams can snipe each other from the spawns, it kind of breaks the idea of the map. Thoughts ?

 

Second thing, what weapons ? Forced weapons ?
Currently, I left weapons to player + picked up to allow all levels being equiped almost the same. At both spawns, there is equally multiple SMGs, Assault Rifles, LMGs, Heavy Snipers, 1 Grenade Launcher and 1 Grenade. 2 Rocket launchers (as they are "OP") are "hidden" on the island in the middle.
Knowing that you can only shoot (free aim) pistols, SMGs and grenades if you're "in" a boat. Shooting with heavy weapons requires you to stand on the boat, shooting at a moving target from a moving boat. Which itselfs requires teamwork (ex: one pilot + one shooter etc)

 

Third thing, Submersible or Chopper ?

As of now there is exactly 2 boats of each type per team, + 1 marquis and 1 submersible (which gives you 24 vehicles out of 25 allowed in the CC). I thought submersible could be fun, imagine sneaking under water reaching a point where you get to the surface, get on the submersible and snipe the other team from the side or from behind. Then go back under water etc.
On the other hand it's slow and could be boring to travel in it a minute or a few minutes.
I thought about choppers too, no Buzzard or Annihilator tho, as people would rush them and pretty much only use that against boats. But more like a Frogger, which would allow teamwork again (pilot + shooter). I tried to put one in the small island in the middle, but it wasn't possible.
Also, a "battleships" should only be about boats... I think.

Your thoughts ? Should I trade the submersible or a boat for a chopper per team ?

I'm not too much into classic deathmatches, but this one is kind of out of the box, that's why I would like to hear some advices to make it better and working.
