Rapla_Tt
just found this: http://dageron.com/?page_id=4823&lang=en http://dageron.com/?page_id=4823 I don't understand Russian, looks like article is not translated to English well also but this is totally uncommon as far as I understand, they censored the game? removed some missions (changed game plot in some way), removed some radiostations, removed stats menu item, removed some textures, added anti-videogame and anti-Rockstar propaganda Correction example – in the original game player was attacked by the “crazies with chainsaws”: Correction example – cruel scene is removed and replaced with the message addressed to the player: Translation into English: In this videogame takes place scene showing a terrorist act, where player becomes the direct executor of the crime. Apparently, the developers thought that it is appropriate to include such scene into their already tough, endlessly violent videogame. Localizators, engaged in it translation and adaptation, are strictly against such things. From our point of view, such ideas of developers are criminal and immoral. In the world there is so much anger, violence and cruelty… Think about it, players, just think about the things you play. how can it be possible, btw? they made a PS2 DVD and PSP UMD disc series Russia doesn't have digital copyright laws, am I right? or could everything this be done with R* permission Edited February 1, 2014 by Rapla_Tt universetwisters
universetwisters
I don't think this is legit. Last time I checked, Rockstar doesn't change in-game billboards when they sell GTA games in different countries. Most they change to my knowledge would be subtitles and the like. But then again... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8ZsXlZF3GM But then again, Russia/former USSR's known for this kind of stuff. If it happened in the past, who's to say it's not going to happen again? A basic rule of propaganda is that if you control the media, you control the masses. Rapla_Tt
Looks like this billboards are not only translated, but changed, found this: Availability of social advertising in localization caused by several objective reasons. First of all, the presence of a large audience of young players and an emergency distribution of mentioned above defects in this environment. Not for nothing such localization caused so much hatred among them. ... We have tried to clean up the maximum amount of textures with improper materials. On the each sign, on the each plate, each texture, we conducted scrupulous work. Content had been disassembled piece by piece – whether it can hint something indecent, uncivilized, immoral, directly or indirectly promote such materials. For example, signs and plates, at least indirectly hinting alcohol, had been replaced by similar, with titles: “nonalcoholic drinks”, “mineral water”, “tea”, “healthy food”, etc. ... Any mentions of such abominable events, like violence, drug addiction, prostitution, debauchery, had been regarded as propaganda by the videogame developers. That is why one of the original textures with similar content was replaced with new title: “American R * Games dirty-office are CRIMINALS, DONT CONTRIBUTE to them, they are the authors of the sadistic videogames“. And also some amount of other textures had been added, incriminating videogame developers and videogames in general. What a mess! Don't understand as well. Such game 'version' is 'legally' sold in Russian shops. No clue with hateness to Rockstar Games. Edited February 1, 2014 by Rapla_Tt
Silent
It's NOT official. The translation is fan made, and the leader of the team who translated it, Dageron, is a weird guy who blames video games for violence amongst children. It was completely up to him to censore the game. Yannerrins
Rapla_Tt
SilentPL Are you sure, that this is fan-made translation?Strange if someone from 'fans' blames videogames and relevant things, and makes a transtation then I have never read anything like that since Jack Tompson story 6 years ago. Silent
Yes, I'm 100% sure. I heard about it from various sources already. Besides, just look at the first link you posted: From the author. This article is partly addressed to all Russian players, who had already installed our GTA LCS localization and had time to form their own impressions. Our means "Dageron's team" there. Also, the poster literally says "Russian version from dageron.com", which is just Dageron's (modder) home page. EDIT: That site is a great read. Turns out Dageron's mind is completely messed up. Look what communism does to people. Edited February 1, 2014 by SilentPL lpgunit and Yannerrins
Rapla_Tt
Sorry, I don't know Russian, misunderstood a bit. I thought this site is some Russian GTA-news one (not modder), with English version for some pages. edit SilentPL, can you translate, please, what is mentioned on this billboard? http://dageron.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/dageron_lcs_1.jpg Are you from any post-soviet country, so know Russian? Silent
Although I know some Russian I got all the info from the English version of the website, so you could've just looked around a bit more Also, it's not about the Russians themselves. They're mostly against Dageron's twisted ideas too. Wanted level stars being a propaganda? Yeah, replace them by 6 hammers and sickles, Виват Советский Союз! EDIT: Yeah, Poland was in the Eastern Block but we weren't a part of USRR. And I was born after the USRR ceased to exist, so it's not really the reason I know Russian (a bit, forgot lots). Translating entire billboard would take me ages. I asked @ThirteenAG about the first part of the text and it says All games which come to Russia from the west must be REMADE IMMEDIATELY Edited February 1, 2014 by SilentPL Yannerrins and lpgunit
Rapla_Tt
Yeah, I also have read English version, but there is no translation for billboard signs. Don't know about Russians a lot, always heard that they are mostly strange people... I am a sociologist by specialty, so such things like digital material censorship are quite worrying for me. And after reading this article I can say that never read anything like that since Jack Tompson US interviews 6 years ago. lpgunit

Rapla_Tt
universetwisters In video you posted here, jump to 5:38, it is uncommon . Those who have played original GTA:LCS, will understand. SilentPL Do you think it is communist propaganda in game made by some modder? In description I just understood it's like some kind of 'social ads', no smoking, no alcohol, etc. Btw, conclusion in article is 'no comment'. universetwisters
universetwisters In video you posted here, jump to 5:38, it is uncommon . Those who have played original GTA:LCS, will understand. I know it's uncommon. The camera just pans to the sky while I believe the subtitles give some kind of anti-terrorism speech. And to answer the other question just for the hell of it, I'm not sure if there's much communist propaganda in games today. Perhaps if the Soviet Union for some reason or another survived for as long as it does today, the government will put some kind of propaganda in it. Like I said earlier, the first rule of propaganda is that if you control the media, you control the people,
Rapla_Tt
But SilentPL just said this is not official GTA LCS Russian (Soviet Union) release, but work of some crazy Russian modder.

In description I just understood it's like some kind of 'social ads', no smoking, no alcohol, etc. I'm a bit too young to judge well, but his anti-Western attitude does fall under my way of thinking about Eastern Europe communism, yes. Could be Dageron's been raised amongst people who were much into communism and today just believes in this crap. lpgunit
Rapla_Tt
Thanks a lot for some clarification. This country is just no understandable for my mind. Never want to visit Moscow and Siberia, and never will be. btw, found this on their website: http://dageron.com/?p=5092&lang=en Looks like new propaganda in GTA V, a, I right? Silent
Hahahaha, yeah, seems like he decided to turn another GTA game into... this. Although GTA V has an offical Russian language, I'm sure it does not contain such BS. Rented
Rapla_Tt
And what is mentioned on this posters is possible to read? Some more about communism, soviet bears, vodka and videogames harm? Cyrillic symbols are like Chineese, but worse because they contain Latin ones, and no clue with meaning for me. universetwisters
What's with the yellow, black, & white flag atop the building? Is it the flag for some oblast in Russia or something? Haha, yes, at least this says Say NO to drugs, alcohol and unruliness I want to meet this guy. Could've been hillarious... or dangerous to try to debate with him EDIT: The flag is the pre-1917 Russian flag. Apparently he's not into communism then, but rather likes tsarist Russia? I dunno. EDIT2: Not exactly pre-1917, but from the tsarist times for sure. Edited February 1, 2014 by SilentPL
Rapla_Tt
I have found this: http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Чёрно-жёлто-белый_флаг Google translate: http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FЧёрно-жёлто-белый_флаг&act=url Today, black-yellow-white flag is used by Russian nationalist, monarchist and patriotic organizations, football fans. In common parlance it is known as "imperial flag." No clue with games, actually. May he work in some relative to gaming industry sphere? Or politics. That seems kinda hard to believe, seeing as one of the many antagonists in GTA 5 is Chinese and they won't release anything that portrays China in a negative light. But then again, would a Chinese thug be exempt from that rule?
Silent
Seriously, why? I wanted to give a link to this thread, but if you think it is not so good idea, I wouldn't. Again, I have no idea. He was active here like in 2007 or 2008 but now is against GTAF and entire GTAF community. Don't ask me why, I doubt anyone gets what this guy is on about. Wish you luck trying to understand his twisted mind GTA 5 was released in China? That seems kinda hard to believe, seeing as one of the many antagonists in GTA 5 is Chinese and they won't release anything that portrays China in a negative light. If they didn't have a publisher in China, they wouldn't make a translation for it. Easy logic Edited February 1, 2014 by SilentPL
