zuckmeslow
I believe we are ready for a sci fi gta. Just like gta 2 was set in the future this next game should be set in the next century. Just imagine hover cars fast enough to take you from liberty city to los santos and instead of airplanes we have spaceships that can take us to the colony up in the moon. The story could involve the main character smuggling illegal items to the moon. He could live in a futuristic crime ridden detroit full of gang members and drug addicted sewer dwellers that come out at night. The missions require frequent trips to liberty city, vice city, los santos, and las venturas. Since he does not have enough money to live in these cities it will be almost like a relief everytime he starts a mission to get away from detroit, and when you finish a mission or a smuggle run to the moon you have to go back to detroit and deal with the gangsters and other dangers. Eventually gaining enough money to move to another city and by the end of the game moving to the moon. Game mechanics will be the same on earth as they are in gta v (improved of course) But in space and on the moon everything changes, gravity in space should be like being underwater, you can survive if you have a space suit and you can jump from spaceship to spaceship being able to pilot small shuttles to large cargo starships. If you do not have a space suit you instantly explode or if you do have one but run out of air you die and spawn at the hospital. Weapons should consist of normal but futuristic looking guns on earth to laser microwave blasters on the moon. Giving us a reason to go up there and cause trouble. This would be a perfect breath of fresh air for the series.
Tycek
Simply speaking no. GTA game set in some future or including some moon or out of earth levels won't be GTA anymore. GTA 2 was set in alternative reality and it didn't become as popular as other parts. Edited February 2, 2014 by Tycek
universetwisters
I never liked the idea of works of fiction set in the future. GTA 2 was set in 2013, if my memory serves. Now it's 2014, and nothing was like how it was depicted in GTA 2. I know it's a work of fiction, but damn. What a letdown. Tyla
Trillest
No, just no. This would work with Saints Row, but not GTA.

LibertyKing
If would be great if it was spin off. R* have already made a lot of games in a lot of different eras: 1890s-Red Dead Revolver, 1910s-Red Dead Redemption, 1930s-Whore of the Orient, (Possibly) 1940s-L.A. Noire, 1960s-GTA London, 1980s-GTA VC, VCS, 1990s-GTA I, SA, LCS, Manhunt 1, 2000s-GTA III, IV, CW, Bully, GTA Advance, Midnight Club, Manhunt 2, 2010s-GTA II (Arguable), GTA V. There really need to be a futuristic spin off. Edited February 1, 2014 by LibertyKing

Where's out lazer guns and flying cars and television programs beamed into our heads?
BLOOD
An HD Era Anywhere City with a futuristic setting would be S-W-E-E-T afterall 1999's GTA 2 was set in a futuristic setting but in 2D Era's Anywhere City.

Great Comment bro.although Saints Row died after the 2nd game. Maybe the third game wouldn't be this bad if the city looked like this: And even better if the graphics were like this: Saints Row was completely ruined by their own developers during the making of the game. Exactly. The Fact was that it a Rushed Franchise which start with two games being a SA rip-offs and then the 3rd and 4th just killed off it competition with GTA. Tyla
I can't take anything away from your locations. They're f*cking brilliant. I am skeptical of the sacrifices that would have to be made for this to work though. What about the culture, soundtrack, vehicles, weapons? What about the criminal element? The saving grace with GTA2 was the mantra of respect is everything. You had the freedom to work for whomever and f*ck them over at your choosing. It was fun just to see how many people you could screw over, but beyond that? It was like a badly depicted parody of a 1950s brave new world. When it comes to taking the piss out of something that isn't the immediete world and culture around them, are Rockstar really at their best? I dont know if it could work 100 percent but i think earth could have stations streaming present day and older music because thats what the main character listens to, and also dresses like a present day person becaus he is facinated with the 2000's culture. But on the moon music should be original songs that sound futuristic like tangerine dream.
MythicalCreature
and also dresses like a present day person because he is fascinated by 2000s cultureand what about the NPCs? They obviously can't all be fascinated by 2000s culture, can they?tbh if you want to materialise this idea you are going to need a LOT of research, thought, vision (sort of, anyway) and most importantly, logic. Also, don't set it too far in the future - keep within the 21st century. I remember this guy tried to do a 27th century thread where 90% of the population were robots, people had guns implanted in their body and myriad other stupid ideas. Something like that kills the whole concept. So try to keep it together in yours. And though I didn't like futuristic gtas not too long ago, now I think maybe they're worth one shot mastered if done right. Btw, where'd you get those screens? Man, they're f*cking awesome! No the npcs can dress all futuristic, maybe an 80's type of futuristic. But the main character dresses like niko bellic, luis lopez, michael, franklin, ect.
