Call it a Groundhog Day resolution. I don't have anywhere to dance like that guy around here, though, so I think this is more like what I need to learn: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOOjhIeZWOg What tips and pointers can you guys give me to get started dancing like that? I'm not sure who a qualified instructor would be. I also know a bit of ballet my own unique style of random dancing, which cannot be taught. I am a cock gobbler and I like gobbling cock. EphemeralStar Posted February 1, 2014 Share Posted February 1, 2014 I do my own cultural dance. Fancy Shawl dancing... otherwise called the butterfly dance. ^_^ but I'm not active like I was before. This was me dancing for a special needs classroom who were learning about different cultures. My bestfriend was doing her practicum there at the time and they had plans to go out on a field trip to learn about native american culture but something went wrong and they couldn't go! I hope to get back into dancing whenever I finish making a new regalia (what we call the outfit I'm wearing. calling it a costume is highly offensive in my culture) Other than that I can't dance very well unless it's JUST DANCE 3 FJHDOKFSOJ lol nojk, I'm pretty terrible at that. What examples of this specific dance do you suggest on YouTube? I saw some ritualistic dancing (not really fancy dancing) when I was young, so can't remember it and the group didn't allow videotaping. I was just trying to dance the macarena. EphemeralStar Posted February 1, 2014 Share Posted February 1, 2014 (edited) This girl is a pretty well-known fancy shawl dancer from what I hear! ^_^ and this is the dance style I do, except I'm not that good haha. It takes a lot of stamina and it is quite hard on the legs and you HAVE to be able to stay on beat, match the speed and express unique footwork to be considered good because a lot of dancers compete for prizes/money at pow wows. This is just one of the many styles of dancing of my peoples culture, but is my favourite because it's usually more fun to watch!
