I agree, I loved GTA IV's cheat system. Maybe they thought that returning to the old cheat system would bring back some nostalgia from GTA SA, idk.

You people do realise SA isn't the only GTA game that ever existed in the 3d era of GTA games, right?

OT: I remember people complaining about the phone method and saying they preferred the old method, seems like anything R* changes that people asked for before GTA V released people just complain about them. Makes no sense. ;-;

I don't recall anyone ever complaining about the phone method of IV, and that they preferred the old.

I never used it much myself because who needs cheat codes when you have the Simple Native Trainer on PC?

But when I did use it, it was great. The only complaints I've seen are from people that wanted to get certain cheats off, but couldn't. Once you use a cheat it's in the phone for the remainder of that playthrough. That's the only complaint I saw. Now that they've made the phone more interactive in V, just having a cheat app with all the cheats stored would have been enough.

If you can go on the internet on your phone and order cars, you should have the ability to store cheat codes and delete them when you want as well. Not completely take out the feature like the tap Y to get out the car, hold Y to turn off the engine and replace it altogether with a useless headlight toggle. But that's just me.

I don't use cheat codes, but a bunch of my friends do when they come over. They have them memorized, and you know what?

I've never heard this particular complaint...I'm sure it's a factor, but can't you input codes with delays this time around? In other words you can input a code, up until the last button and still activate it as long as you don't interrupt the combo.

Seems to be a 6 of one, half dozen of the other type situation.

"Hard to remember"

R1 R2 L1 R2 L, D, R, U, L, D, R, U

R1 R2 L1 R2 L, D, U, R, L, D, D, D

R1 R2 L1 R2 L, D, U, R, L, D, D, L

San Andreas PS2 weapon cheats. Did not Google.

Obviously V has many different codes that don't look all too similar so yeah. My point still stands

Yeah OK so I was just showing off. Sue me!

The only thing I remember people complaining about GTA IV's cheats were the cheats themselves as they weren't very creative or fun. Not so much the cheat inputting method. Either way it's something I feel they should've kept going on with instead of listening to those that couldn't deal with GTA IV being outside of their comfort zone..

As I said before, the only problem I have with IV's cheat system is that the character puts away their phones after they get shot. That's extremely annoying but still, I liked the system.

I remember back when it was confirmed that V was gonna have the same cheat system as SA. Many people were pleased. Dunno why, though.

The SA cheat system only really worked great on PC, from my experience. The cheats were fun to enter sometimes because of what they spell out, heh. Like with previous 3D era GTAs.

Agreed.

I played SA on PC and I memorized the cheats very easily.

It makes no sense because you are using a dumbasses type of logic you smartass. Not everybody complained about IV's phone. I never did. Please don't use that logic as fact, I will cuss you out.

...you're using the same logic. Not everyone complained about GTAV's cheat system, nor praised GTAIV's. Stop being a childish hypocrite.

Lol does Saints Row have Phones? cs that last time i play Saint Row 2 (almost 4 years ago) it more like a pause menu cheat than phone you can use in Real-time just like in GTA 4 and GTA 5 instead of pausing the game.

Technically, even GTA IV's cheats were activated with button press combos. Once you had entered the long-ass phone number once, the cheat was saved, after which a button press combo activated one of the cheats. Say for instance Health Cheat: Up, A, Up, A, Down, A. Or Buzzard Cheat: Up, A, Up, A, Up, Up, A. These are from Xbox, and its so long since I've played IV, I can't properly remember the position of each cheat option on the list, but I think you can see what I mean.

...Meanwhile you can switch characters, and then switch back and it heals your vehicle 100%, minus the windows. SOMETIMES it even repairs windows. If you didn't break any windows, the car will be healed 100% and windows in tact, too.

Not sure why you'd need a cheat to "fix the car" from some dings and dents, etc. Maybe a case of OCD a bit, just saying?

No no you're not wrong. I am OCD about this. In just about every game, I like to have my car in perfect condition. I just cruise and it feels wrong to see dents or scratches when I try to admire the car. It feels like a chore to have to pause and enter codes or switch to a character and then switch back.

@Tenxax I get what you are saying but there would have been a simple solution to that, allow us to use our phones even whilst being shot at. Simple.

In all honesty, it would've been cooler if you had to enter in the cheats the way you do now, but to where they save onto your phone after doing so. And then if you pause you can still enter the cheats and they will work. That would have worked perfectly but sometimes... it seems like Rockstar doesn't use any common sense. :whuh:

Yeah, this is fine. But what I said had nothing to do with typing in cheats to fix your vehicle. Bang the f*ck out of it, then switch characters and back, you'll see the car completely fixed. No dents, no scrapes, etc. Cheats have nothing to do with fixing the car in the method I am telling you lol

I got OCD WITH using cheats, since Rockstar keeps track of these in the pause menu, I ALWAYS shoot for a cheat free save and 100% completion as I did with GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas, and IV. So V is no different. I continue to never use cheats.

I was just giving you a solution to fix the vehicles without using cheats or going to LSC.

Button codes aren't interrupted by being shot or knocked around the way they were when you had to access your phone to use them.

All of you bitching about the change are just too lazy to learn the codes. Tough sh*t, at the end of the day.

I like it. It brings back memories of San Andreas and I think it's a small reference seeing as everyone went San Andreas crazy when they found out the V was set Los Santos.

San Andreas was the same way as well.

This isn't new to V.

Phone Cheats were awful in GTA IV, and were one of the few legit complaints I heard almost everyone had with the game.

Want to enter wanted or health cheats? Better hope to god you don't get shot while trying to select it, cause Niko is just gonna put his phone away and get killed.

Also, button codes are inherently faster once/if you memorize them.

Of course, that being said, the simple solution would have been to allow both options. (input a button code, it's saved in your phone)

And to just take out the feature where you put your phone away when you take damage.

Thank god you are banned. Clearly you were too damn retarded to even understand what I was getting at.

Some of you people are just oh-so dumb. Especially that guy who said I was too lazy to put the cheats in. I understand everything has fanboys but there are those fanboys that are just the worst and V has a lot of them.

I liked it. Didn't really dig the phone thing in IV. Can't really say it's for a logical, practical reason as it is more preference. The only thing I thought they f*cked up with was changing them too much from the 3D era. They should have just kept the same codes for the same cheats. I also thought the 3D era cheats were more logical and easier to remember. These feel like they're all over the place.

They should have allowed you to save the cheats and access them in the pause menu. The 5 minute limit on invincibility was a stupid dick move.

I don't really mind entering in the button presses, but which retard at Rockstar decided to put the TRIANGLE/Y button in the cheat code to get max health and armor? I wanna fix my car, and if I enter the cheat code, I climb out of the vehicle that I'M TRYING TO REPAIR!

Anyways... I have all the cheat codes in my muscle memory. I couldn't even tell you what half of them are, but if I pick up a controller, I can enter them in perfectly.

I do agree, the 5 minute invincibility and lack of never wanted was the most retarded dick move in GTA V yet. I still can't wrap my mind who the f*ck would have thought it was a good idea.

Presonally I don't use cheats any more. Ever since I downloaded (and installed) SNT for GTA IV that was the day that cheats became redundant. Anyway I stopped playing GTA V after the one month it came out so I cannot say what they did or how they were entered.

DLC man! There is a never wanted cheat! You just dont have access to it. If you type in the lower wanted level when you have no stars it will say something like "No wanted level cheat - denied" or something like that.

Because this game was made for San Andreas fanboys, and clearly anything non-San Andreas is bad and too much like that overly dark and gritty GTA IV.

I prefer the old school cheat system. Besides the ones with triangle in it. One thing that annoyed me in gta 4 was that whenever you got shot Niko put his phone away, which made rampages annoying. It also felt dirty having the phone littered with cheats.

And I think some PS3 players would agree how annoying it was if you accidentally clicked on the sixaxis tutoorial. Also not being able to do cheats when running, falling or ragdolling was infuriating.

I did this a lot, especially for SA and Vice City. I would have an entire sheet of copy paper filled with cheats.

I memorized the max health and armor cheat, the spawn Hydra, the spawn jetpack, and 2 weapons cheats since those were the ones I used the most.

SA had a lot of cheats. Most of them were good and helpful. I used a spawn only rare cars cheats to get the Phoenix and another car in SA too. Good times.

IV and V just doesn't compare to VC and SA when it comes to cheats.

What was the point in making the cheats system the way it was in older GTA's? The phone system was simple, useful, and non-problematic. But now they went back to the old time consuming process of hitting random buttons that are hard to remember.

Before any of you bash me for using cheats, I will explain why it is annoying me so much. I like to relax and cruise in my cars in V sometimes. I hate having a dinged up car and with V's driver AI, it is very common that a driver hits me or scrapes me even if I drive like a civilian. I used the health cheat whenever that happened in IV and it was easy for me to relax and not have to worry about some imperfections on my car. I have to pause and enter the cheat every time I get hit in V and it felt like a chore. It was annoying.

Does anybody else feel that downgrading to this chore-like cheat code system was a dick move? Its as annoying as the 5 minute invincibility limit.

My guess and it can only be a guess, is that they didn't want us to have cheats, but decided to appease the people who wanted cheats. They just made it harder to use them by having these button pressing sequence and making some temporary making people button press some more in order to discourage it.

Sometimes I think they did the same for assaulting NPC by making the police aggro so touchy. they give a away one stars as blatantly as I once punched and ran over peds.
