What was the point of this?

What was the point in making the cheats system the way it was in older GTA's? The phone system was simple, useful, and non-problematic. But now they went back to the old time consuming process of hitting random buttons that are hard to remember.

 

Before any of you bash me for using cheats, I will explain why it is annoying me so much. I like to relax and cruise in my cars in V sometimes. I hate having a dinged up car and with V's driver AI, it is very common that a driver hits me or scrapes me even if I drive like a civilian. I used the health cheat whenever that happened in IV and it was easy for me to relax and not have to worry about some imperfections on my car. I have to pause and enter the cheat every time I get hit in V and it felt like a chore. It was annoying.

 

Does anybody else feel that downgrading to this chore-like cheat code system was a dick move? Its as annoying as the 5 minute invincibility limit.

I agree, I loved GTA IV's cheat system. Maybe they thought that returning to the old cheat system would bring back some nostalgia from GTA SA, idk.

Can't say I see any logical point in this. IV system was simple, but V is giant step back.

Maybe it was to make it harder to enter the cheat codes or because some players were annoyed over the fact that if you got shot in the arm the protagonist would his phone away.

 

I don't really know, but I am not bothered at all by it.

I guess its because the phones kinda got less functionality to put all the side activities back in the map. Anyway, I like the system used in GTA V because i could enter cheats while in the pause menu.

...Meanwhile you can switch characters, and then switch back and it heals your vehicle 100%, minus the windows. SOMETIMES it even repairs windows. If you didn't break any windows, the car will be healed 100% and windows in tact, too.

 

Not sure why you'd need a cheat to "fix the car" from some dings and dents, etc. Maybe a case of OCD a bit, just saying?

It just feels wrong to drive around a brand new car with a lot of dents and broken headlights.

Lol, yeah, but you CAN fix it without entering cheat codes easily within 15 seconds or so. I also usually don't bang into things much and when I do and it's f*cked beyond belief, I just switch characters and then back again and it's good as new lol

Had IV not had the phone system it would've never been a big deal, but yes, the truth is, the phone system was perfect (unless you're in water). You could enter any cheat fast and simple and not have to worry about killing anyone or doing anything stupid while entering it.

 

There are better cheats in V than there was in IV, yet I don't use them nearly as much as I did in IV. I just don't feel like entering in each cheat like that anymore.

No no you're not wrong. I am OCD about this. In just about every game, I like to have my car in perfect condition. I just cruise and it feels wrong to see dents or scratches when I try to admire the car. It feels like a chore to have to pause and enter codes or switch to a character and then switch back.

 

@Tenxax I get what you are saying but there would have been a simple solution to that, allow us to use our phones even whilst being shot at. Simple.

 

In all honesty, it would've been cooler if you had to enter in the cheats the way you do now, but to where they save onto your phone after doing so. And then if you pause you can still enter the cheats and they will work. That would have worked perfectly but sometimes... it seems like Rockstar doesn't use any common sense.

I was annoyed at this also. Was a small feature in IV that worked really well. What would have been cool if the feature had returned is if you were in water you could still open your phone and access cheats but nothing else.

Well, maybe some people of the on the dev. team found it to be a quicker solution rather than heading to the phone. However I do agree that there should of had been a menu atleast.

Both GTA 4 and GTA 5 have Phones we could use in Real-time and also do things like,Change Background Colour,Ringtones,Buy things Online.I love GTA 4's Cheat System and i hope it returns in future,but GTA 5's cheat system is a tribute to San Andreas (I guess) but did anyone notice that we could spawn multiple thing in one go unlike in GTA 4 were if you spawn something the others disappears.

I wondered the same thing. The phone cheat system was an incredible improvement from the usual (or classic way?) of imputing cheat codes. I haven't done it in that way in forever. I completely gave up on the cheats anyway, so it doesn't even matter to me anymore. I could see how it does for other people, however.

I printed off all the cheats, but I can't be bothered to put them in everytime. I never used cheats that much in GTA IV., but I liked that they were stored in the phone. Since GTA V has brought back some more of the fun kind of cheats it's quite annoying there's no way of them being stored.

 

I didn't realise until a few weeks ago the phones do actually have a dial pad too so I'm not sure why they didn't add the same function. It just seems silly to me to go backwards.

They could of had implemented the system from Red Dead in where you could enter a cheat in the pause menu and it would save . It wouldn't automaticly trigger it after putting the code so you werent supposed to worry about achievements.

Yes, of course I realise that, but I'm especially referring to SA because GTA V is set in Southern SA, and because GTA SA was such a big game. That's why I think that R* wanted to go back to the 3d era cheat system, you know, because a lot of people played GTA SA.

The only thing I remember people complaining about GTA IV's cheats were the cheats themselves as they weren't very creative or fun. Not so much the cheat inputting method. I remember a 20 page thread on I think Gamefaq where people were complaining about all the things they hate about IV and the phone cheats one of the things they hated. The funny thing is they all talked about how SR was superior so they don't know what the hell they are talking since SR uses phone cheats. Next time R needs to realize they can't please unpleasable people.

If they make GTA VI in a similar way they did with GTA IV using their own intuition it'll most likely annoy the people who can't accept change, but if they revert back to old ways (like this method the thread's discussing) people who want to see the series move ahead instead of regressing back will get annoyed too.

 

There's no easy solution. No matter what they do one side of the fanbase will be satisfied and the other will feel like they've been hung out to dry.

That is why they just make themselves happy. It will probably sell like hotcakes regardless. The opposite of love is indifference and for better or worse people are certainly passionate about GTA.

It makes no sense because you are using a dumbasses type of logic you smartass. Not everybody complained about IV's phone. I never did. Please don't use that logic as fact, I will cuss you out.
