thatGuyyy
It's always amusing to see the haters continually bring up the cross dressing thing, despite it being a very minor occurrence during a switch that you barely ever see, and just adds to the humour of his character. Then we have the closet bigots who use his apparent bisexuality as a reason to dislike him, despite it, again, being something very minor you rarely witness during a switch scene. Maybe these guys would prefer a catwalk model who makes sure he shampoos his hair twice a day, and constructs daisy chains during his spare time... His "minor" traits are exactly why I dislike him. I don't care if a character is gay (I loved Tony), but its like R* just added these minor goofy aspects to Trevor just for shock value, as another poster said. These minor traits just cheapen the character and make him look like a gimmicky Saints Row protag. Trevor seems like he should be in a cartoon, not in gta Edited February 3, 2014 by thatGuyyy Niobium and Official General

They tried too hard with Trevor. And they succeeded. They succeeded in making a joke character. thatGuyyy and Official General
Officer Ronson
Shock value? Seriously? Do we actually see Trevor eating people or do we see him f*cking a guy? No we don't, it is implied but its a ton of bullsh*t that people make up themselves. Also of it shocks you that a videogame character has a specific sexual orientation well then... You don't need to see it to be shocked, its why great horror movies almost never show the villian. The imagination is alot more powerful than what can be shown on screen. R* implied alot of things about Trevor just to create shock value and controversy around the character Its like how famous music artists use Illuminati symbols in their music videos to generate more publicity. Officer Ronson
And how is a guy f*cking another guy my problem? How is that going to shock me? Implying is one thing but it being the truth is another. How am I supposed to know if he ins't being sarcastic? To my knowledge he could of had eaten Indian food all this time and he just says it sarcasticly because he likes to be that way. Also Shock values applies to it being shown, not it being implied. Smith John
@thatGuyyy You can complain about Trevor's inclusion being too "gimmicky" and "over the top" 'til your heart's content. I, however, will take entertainment over tiresome dullness any day of the week. You compare his character to Saints Row? Officer Ronson
''Oh look at me I went to war you must feel pain for me my daddy was not nice to me and all my Friends were killed'' Must I feel sorry for that? No I do not, I don't see that as either shock value or something deep. It was rather cheap, however the other part of the story was better. Also you're looking at Trevor way to superficially, its not because he had mommy and daddy issues or anything by the style. His dad wasn't even there so you can guess, Franklin's dad abandoned him and we don't use that to say he has depth or anything.

phillipshead
@ woggleman No. There was nothing complex about Trevor. Just a crazy, psychopath that was very violent and that's it. Ok, he has some strange relationship with his mother, and he cried tears because he could not be with the woman he wanted. Still don't make him deep or complex. Maybe this is why you hate him so much. Did you read DM's post that I quoted about their relationship? I think Michael and Trevor were handled beautifully. Here's how I see it: Trevor represents childhood. Trevor is selfish, like a child. He'll throw a hissy fit when he doesn't get what he wants. He loves living in an endless adventure, robbing banks being his, even to the point where it becomes a fantasy; he doesn't understand that if he keeps doing it, he will die. Just one little thing going wrong and all of the crew is dead. But it's a game to him. He's also very loyal to his friends, especially to his best friend. Don't know about any of you guys, but when I was a kid, my best friend always got picked on, and I'd always come to defend him. I got into a few fights because of him lol Trevor would defend Michael to the death, and even when he says he hates him and when he knows what he's done to him, he always knows he'll love him, and wouldn't be able to take the shot when the time came. Michael represents adulthood. He has responsibilities. He has a wife and kids to look after. He can't live in the fantasy world with his best friend anymore; he has something to lose now. When we're young, we're prone to not give a sh*t; we go from job to job if we don't like the one before. But once you have people who depend on you, you just suck it up and deal with it; you can't live that life anymore, because you have kids who would starve if you're not there earning money. Michael wanted to go back to the fantasy with Trevor, but he knew he couldn't anymore because he had a family: "I wanna be a good dad, love my family... live the dream. But at the same time, I really want the other stuff too." It's not that he doesn't love Trevor, it's that he knows that Trevor never grew up. He knows Trevor will get him killed eventually. He knows that Trevor is selfish and violent, and he's not willing to take a chance and jeopardize his family's safety and well-being. As much as it pains him, his gut reaction is that he needs to put him down, because Trevor is too loyal to let him go. Trevor's like the family dog who's grown ravenous towards everyone over the years except for the family, especially not towards the father who's had him longer -- what would your gut be telling you to do with the dog if you had impressionable, naive kids? My sister had a dog like this -- he was loyal to the end to my brother-in-law, but he was very aggressive to everyone except him and the family; but once he started to bark at my nephew, my brother-in-law went to put him down; he took him to animal control and held him through the whole thing. He f*ckin' cried, a grown man. So in a way, I think they both appeal to us in a very intimate level. We can side with Trevor because the little kid inside of us who's loyal to the end is still there. But we can side with Michael because we've grown up. We know that's not how the world works anymore. I agree here with the child adult thing. But further, I think Trevor was overplayed by the actor. I think Ned Luke's performance of Michael was much more nuanced and seamless. Ogg is getting all the attention but I think it is the shock factor the flash. He went full retard so to speak, while Luke played a human being, something far more difficult to accomplish IMO. I thought much of Oggs performance was contrived and that Trevor could have been an iconic character had Ogg been more subtle with his performance. I think he was very serviceable, I just am certain Ned Luke's performance is grossly under estimated and under appreciated. His character is my favorite R* character having surpassed. John Marsten. And that's saying something. thatGuyyy and Cuexcomate
Panz
The cross dressing doesn't add humor. It adds stupid Saints Row goofiness. As I already said, Rockstar added the bisexuality for increased shock value along with the cannibal and rape stuff. It's all just too much. They tried too hard with Trevor. I wouldn't ever compare Trevor's character to a Saint's Row character. Everyone seems to label him as a joke character, but in reality, he's quite sincere in his emotions. You've got a guy who mourned his friend's grave and felt a tremendous amount of pain about a heist gone wrong for years, something he felt that he was responsible for. Then he found out that Michael was alive, and that's where we see a mixture of emotions throughout the rest of the story. He can't tell whether to be happy that his best friend is alive or whether to express anger because Michael betrayed and lied to him, an honest inner-conflict that I think any of us would battle with. He showed a genuine care for Michael's kids. And although it was a little f*cked up, he was capable of love with Patricia, a woman he confided in and shared a real bond with. You might all think it's a joke, but people as crazy as Trevor do exist and do act in similar ways to him. It doesn't mean that they aren't human, and I applaud R* for straying away from the typical criminal mastermind and taking a different spin on it. And honestly, these opinions about cross-dressing and bisexualism are absolutely ridiculous. Is it video game taboo or something? We've all heard of these types of people. We know they exist, so why is it a problem if we make a video game character with this type of personality? And remember, it's a game. Things need to be exaggerated to an extent to keep it entertaining. Would you want to play a game solely as Franklin? I sure as hell wouldn't. Trevor was over the top but during Trevor's struggle after Frank laughed at him we were reminded that Mental Illness is probably the worst illness of all. It is an invisible disability that all too often provokes humour and ridicule instead of compassion and empathy. DaltonVirago
