tch2296
I really like what Rockstar has done with the gas tank explosions that were an easy way to blow somebody up in previous iterations of GTA. This time, you have to know exactly where to shoot (in between the wheel and the chassis just above the left rear wheel, at least for all cars I've tried), and then you will only notice some liquid leaking onto the ground. At this point, without a source of ignition, you can still even drive the car around (at least for a while, I'm not sure if it does run out of gas - that would be sweet and I'll have to test that out), leaving a trail of gas behind you - like in that first repossession mission from Simeon - which can be shot to ignite, or even can be ignited when super cars make those little jets of flame come out the back. Can somebody explain to me what those flames are and why they only come out of certain cars?
REXX
The flames that appear from the back of exhausts is where small amounts of gas leak through and ignite, if I'm correct. Very noticable in some vehicles with turbos or super cars. And yes, if you shoot the gas tank, the vehicle will eventually come to a stop.
player999
Very tuned up engines like those in supercars or racing cars have a very short and straight exaust. When taking down the gas from higher rotational speed while shifting or breaking, there goes too much unburned gas into the exaust-system, which is very hot and short with those cars, and ignites. It is also known with turbo racingcars as a designed feature to keep the (exaust-)turbo running fast during shifting to get a better accelleration in the next gear. Nevertheless it´s bad for the motor and especially the kat, if there is one.
killahmatic
its pretty cool. Remember the days when flipping your car would cause it to explode? It wouldn't really fit in the new era, but it sure was fun panicking to get your character away from the car.

~Tiger~
Can somebody explain to me what those flames are and why they only come out of certain cars? The Wik: "In some high-performance vehicles, when a driver shifts up and lets off the accelerator, the engine has a moment of running rich. This causes an incomplete burn which causes the fumes to explode in the exhaust system along with an audible pop or bang sound." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Back-fire
Mokrie Dela
It's fun to use the exhaust backfire to ignite gas trails... Oh an I too miss that panic of 'sh*t get out' I like the fact that in iv and g your car won't go book but I don't like how in v you can magically flip your car over I usually pretend that feature doesn't exist and run away! The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing. Click here to view my Poetry

Yeah, even though that feature is pretty useful in some situations, I personally don't like it since it is really unrealistic. If my car flips over, I get out and run!
