In my experience I have to disagree, Jbk. Like TripleH my PC exceeds the recommended requirements and it's almost unplayable. I have to have the graphics detail on the lowest setting and still it pops-up and pauses every 2 seconds. And keyboard controls suck too, you can't walk you can only run and you can only walk in old fashioned digital 8 directions (not in 360 degrees like on the good ol' Dual Shock) The only good thing is that you can use your own skins and mods *yawn!*

Give me a 28" TV, an armchair and the PS2 plugged into my stereo anyday... way better than a 14" monitor on a desk chair and fingers sprawled all over the keyboard!

*nods at NinjaJedi*

I think it is more enjoyable to play a game like GTA on the TV screen...  Besides, you don't have to use loads of money on upgrading a console like a PC :p

ps. jbk-> That kind of imature flaming you posted -is- less useful. There's no reason for that. fyi.

The gta started on PC and i think they should release it for pc's first! Maybe this will happen with the Gta4?

My pc runs the gta3rd smoothly and i would prefer vc on pc better than a ps2. Pc will get the bugs fixed plus other extras added and VC should be more stable than the gta3 was on pc.

It still doesnt matter what system you use to play it and i dont get the idea of posting a thread like this. Peace ppl  :/

I'm sure GTA started on the Playstation.... not the PC. It might have come out on PC too but it started life on Playstation.

Just to clear a point, I'm not a PC hater - I love 'em. Consoles and PCs have their differences and somethings work better on one system and other things work better on other systems. It's like chocolate, it tastes better on a biscuit than it does on a cracker!! It's all down to preferences.

GTA did start on the playstation first back in 1997,

I'm not a Pc hater either but i just cant stand the way that they have problems with games, with a ps2 all you do is pop in the game and play away but with a pc you cant

So tell me whats the problem with playing a pc? Tell me have you ever even tried to play with one?

Ill tell you how it goes. 1st turn it on 2nd put in the cd 3rd press the thing that says "play" and go for it. And it doesnt have loading times when its getting the information from the harddrive. I will enjoy my vc with my pc you have it with ps2. I dont care

The original Gta WAS released 1st for the pc. Trust me. It looked better with pc's 3d-cards than the blurry ps-version. I played it with both.

You're quite right, Paulie. It DID start on the PC. I just did a quick bit of research on the net and sure enough it started life on a PC first. Accept my humblest apologies.

Besides, who cares how it's played. We're all still playing the same game. It's just the way I have my PC set up it gets kinda uncomfortable after prolonged game play. Whereas my PS2 is in front of the couch... Ahhhhhh, comfy!!

Sorry TripleH, but PC got GTA1 with more features first I think. We had trains and multiplayer street races/killfests, PS didn't. There was even a mission on a train :-) (Sorry, didn't see the apology!;)

I'm not one of those people who stupidly diss consoles and boast specs and what not, but I'm waiting on PC. Why? Because I don't have a TV and I'm not going to waste my money on one till I get a house.  Even then, I don't think I'd need a console as I'd just get a cool computer.

PCs can run GTA3 fine.  The requirements are misleading as there are 32 Meg Video Cards (Riva TNT2) which aren't as good as the ones that GTA demands. It'll run super laggy on them but Geforce 2+ (preferably not 4 MX), Radeon 7500+ have mostly been able to run it ok, barring other major glitches. I run it fine with trails and high resolution on my new comp.  I'm sure Vice City will run fine on mine too.

Though for some it's a hassle, PC games have never been a problem for me.  GTA3 ran terribly chunky and slow on my RIVA TNT2 but then my computer died and I got myself a nice new one for 700 that runs it flawlessly.  I could've gotten it cheaper too but I needed it fast.  It really does work well under the right conditions... though I think the box specs are misleading. They should've said a DirectX7/8 card or above with 32 megs as recommended, those usually run it fine.  All that aside, though, if you take the trouble to install it and know what you're doing, it isn't that much harder.

As for control schemes I use... the keyboard! Mouse and keyboard gives you the full scale of motion, better than PS2's 360 degrees, but I used the control pad on PS2 and the keyboard on GTA because it's tradition :-) I beat GTA 1, London, 2 and 3 with my keyboard, I'll continue to for as long as I can.

Don't hope there's no PC version.  We bought GTA and made sure it existed in the first place.  This means we care about GTA just as much as you do.  There's plenty of PC owners waiting on VC.  Why alienate a big part of the GTA community?

There seems to be a very wide range of experiences with GTA3 on the PC. As for myself, I have a lowly 850mhz, with a 64mb ti 200, and only 288 sdram. The game runs fantastic with the details and res maxed out, and I've never had a lockup, never had stuttering or freezes.

I don't know what to think of this. I do know that I built my own pc and I've never had problems with any games running. I do have alot of friends who buy mass-produced pc's and then wonder why the game runs like crap. Even sometimes after slapping in an aftermarket vid card. I'm not implying that if GTA3 runs crap on your PC you must be a ninny, but I wonder if GTA3 has influenced alot of people who don't usually play games on their pc to try this game out. Hence, alot of frustration when their system doesn't stack up - My parents bought a brand new 1.6ghz gateway pc with a geforce 2 mx and my computer literally triples it in performance scores. So there can be a ton of difference in computers with very similar system specs.

On the digital 8 directions comment - I can move in 360 degrees as well with the mouse and keyboard. There's no restriction there whatsoever, so I don't quite know what you're talking about....

slightlymad403

i haven't read all the posts, but i have to disagree with the first one... first of all i'm just not a console guy, so that's one thing but not all ;]

My Athlon 1700 and Geforce3 runs it perfectly smoothly, and it didn't cost me much cause i bought some parts and used other old ones to construct my computer from scratch, runs perfectly

also- installing a game is not hard to figure out

and- after i beat GTA3, i had about 4 times as much fun just playing with modding it

btw yes i have played it on PS2, and it looks better on my PC screen

now if you're just a console kind of guy and don't know computers well at all, maybe you do prefer console more, but it's kindof ignorant just to blatantly say Console is waay better than PC.

but whatever, like I Shot Ya said, it's the same game  :D

I doubt any of us are or we wouldnt be using the forums.

But I got PS2 Gta III and PC grand theft auto III, PC version has remained untouched after 3 hours of play on it.  PS2 is just so much more reliable.  I supposedly have a jesus comp(not as good, since the highly sought after GeForce3 aint the top card as it used to be)

Anyway, with my great comp(which I do play several other games on) GTA was slow as a turtle, and everytime I played it my monitor got dark which doesnt seem to be a problem with any of my other games  :sui:

you are extremely gay, you can use your mouse to look 360 too just think moron its not just combinations of up and up right and right etc... and 640x480 looks like sh*t on anything larger than 19", I think I would rather play 1024x768 so I could actually read stuff in the game, not trying like for 10 min to figure out what it is. Well and if you got like a 20 year old computer then how the f*ck do you think it will run!!! My computer: celeron 500 mhz, geforce 2 mx, 256 ram and it rans very good without lagging at 1024x768 and runs even better at 800x600, my computer now would cost about $300-$400 dollars... plus I play many other FUN games!!!
