I finally managed to write the decompression algorithm for PS3 .CDR vertices, and I’m getting the correct geometry with properly decompressed index buffer faces. It really wasn’t easy; I’ve rarely been this stuck on an encoding issue :/

I can now convert the entire geometry of all the CDRs, and I’ll work on porting the group shaders later for a complete render.


I’ll post tomorrow.

After spending several hours decoding the relative positioning of the compressed vertex buffers (a part of compression algorithm), I’m back with some interesting results.


Here’s v_6_aliens.cdr; the aliens are positioned this way in the Zancudo bunker (probably on operating tables)

There are also other fairly similar alien models in the Zancudo bunker; some appear to be placed in preservation tanks (thanks @Antasurris, for pointing that out to me)


I still need to work on porting the shaders group and decoding the UVs and normals. I’ll also convert the CTYP and CMAP to bring the beta to GTA V on PC.

The staging is probably similar to that of the movie Independence Day.

they seem to be more straight forward since the format is very similar to PC i assume

since it´s just xml
maybe it just requires the endian

there is some tool that allows you to view that stuff with offsets and such

his phone textures and phone gxt strings still have ari in it

Just like we all fantasized about ~12 years ago, there's an autopsy room with three aliens laid out on tables, and even better, a cryochamber with three more aliens floating in tanks. The place is honestly bigger than I expected

The kit's hdd already has been dumped, it's just all encrypted which is the time consuming part. It's on archive dot org. So if anybody is looking to give it a shot themselves, "1400a 2454" is what you're looking for.

You need a tool to decrypt the .img (the hdd) using the included eid root key. https://github.com/aerosoul94/PS-HDD-Tools this is a notable one, though https://archive.org/details/ps3_hdd_decrypt might be better and faster.

Insane find honestly, any idea where this would have been located specifically? My best guess is that it would have been involved with the elevator that opens below where the UFO spawns but I could be wrong

Under Zancudo Bunker, yes

The idea is now to directly convert CDR files to YDR in order to reconstruct interiors (such as the Zancudo bunker) in GTA V on PC. The program is already capable of building YDR files, but it still needs some adjustments for the heuristic conversion of PS3-to-PC shader materials to ensure a clean result. Currently, I am integrating a transcoding feature for CTD to YTD.
 

The converted GTA V PS3 Beta interiors will soon be published on modding websites.
