The GTA V beta hunt

Funny thing is that there are some leftover cutscene files in the leaks and I've saw his name there a countless of times lol

One thing I kinda hate about interviews like these is the fact that the interviewer doesn't know all the datamined stuff, because if they knew they could ask some questions that might be able to provide additional context

Like how SanInPlay said that stuff recently got leaked, but if he asked questions that were more in depth, it's possible Joey Rubino could've answered some of them and filled some blanks about the DLC, hell SanInPlay doesn't even know that the DLC was about IAA

San made the mistake of not delving deeper into this subject. I hope that in the next interviews, he will be able to extract more about these DLCs.

Just chiming in here to say that the Avera seems definitely based on the Hyundai i30 instead as the name seems to be taken from the "Av" in Avante (the i30's name in Korea) and the "ra" in Elantra (the i30's name in America)

Do you have any pics of it

They're old radio station icons it looks like. Radio Los Santos, RSWAX(Soulwax) and WCC's. Old logos I presume.

Added the files from the gdrive link below. Unsure if they're new discoveries or not

Is that a 1st gen screen, or just the PC version on low settings?

It's the pc version at low settings/low resolution with mods (Beta Map Restoration and Franklin with some modded clothes)image.thumb.png.27f0200dcbeae6332cda5626a9957d82.png

I've been looking in the source code files. and found these renders of Vespucci Canals

not sure if its beta content or not, but I found it interesting and thought it would be interesting to share.

i saw those
the way some like the vinewood sign one blends and such

makes me think that this was originally for a artbook similar to gta 4

in which we see the different stages of how areas are made

modelling program-simple with no major effects-final game

and looking at the debug bar screenshots, it´s the final build

according to the builds.xml it´s the last build

so likely the one that got send to the disc production

the GOLD version

is 1 month before release

so if you played V day one, with no patches

i think this is the exact build

Remember how Carson GT shared files, but they were later deleted. Does anyone else have any left?

Now that you mention it... man, years later the situation is still very upsetting: how is it possible that Carson and his friend handled the whole thing with that dev kit so badly? It was widely known that Rockstar sends some mafia-type private investigators to people that have something they feel threatens their IPs.

Instead of both of them coming here bragging about possessing the dev kit for fame and Reddit points they should have done exactly as it was done with the even-more recent GTA V source code leak: don't say a single word publicly about what you have, get the content together working in private with people who know about the subject, and then upload it everywhere and let it spread like wildfire after sharing it.

Carson and his friend mishandled it from the beginning and it's even more sad knowing that it was a double-casualty because we also lost 2009 builds of Red Dead Redemption mentioned in another thread here.

I think they were simply not prepared for the response from Take Two. But honestly, many other developers do not care about beta leaks, and they probably didn't expect things to go to the lengths it did. But I nd probably everyone wish they had showed more before they completely backtracked on everything. Those threats must have been serious though. Probably some hardcore lawsuit stuff. It was so bad that Carson deleted pretty much every comment regarding the leak, although I can still see it when someone responded to them. But yeah the frustration that we didn't get more when we were so close is real

Carson and his pal could have made there be no "response", in the comment you responded to I just said they should've remained anonymous. It's super easy to leak something without anyone ever finding out who was responsable for it, they even could have gotten someone else to share that stuff around.

Yes, in the case of the GTA V source code, the person who shared that got in trouble, but only because the guy purposefully made his identity public to get attention.

Also, no assets had to be shared in order to motivate Rockstar to send private investigators: the person who had the aforementioned pre-release builds of Red Dead Redemption never got to share anything from them to anyone before he received Rockstar-paid goons that took the builds away from him.

After Carson and company made tons of comments here confirming they had that dev kit, it was already lost at that point. People need to handle these things correctly: don't reveal that you have that kind of stuff.

The situation was handled terribly, no doubt. But also 2017 was a very different time from now. T2 weren't known to be as gung-ho when it came to protecting their IPs. This was before the wave of GTA mod takedowns, re3/reVC etc.

The only instance of something like this happening before then was OpenIV, which was a totally different ballpark. Not to mention the community eventually got its way. Most publishers probably wouldn't go after a kid for having beta material of a 6 year old last-generation game. In one of his deleted comments I remember he said something about him not uploading the data directly because he wanted to avoid something like this happening. Guess he thought that'd be enough to keep T2 at bay. Oh well. Kid was like 13 or something though, so not surprised he didn't exactly know better.

By the way, I have never seen definitive proof the person who had those RDR discs were even pursued by T2, so that seems like complete conjecture to me. Those discs may still pop up somewhere one day. Arion Kurtaj also was ratted out by his friends, he hadn't revealed his identity. His personal info and affiliation with Lap$u$ was made public for months before the hacks even transpired

All in all, I just think these kinds of comments are kind of redundant. Yes, everyone would've loved to see things happen differently. It's the same point so many people have made over the years, and a point far easier to make with the hindsight of the situation's aftermath + the way T2 would treat its community in the subsequent years. It is what it is. Crying about it in this thread is going to change anything. Just gotta hope someone else comes along one day who won't succumb to the same mistakes

2017 was the year the OpenIV takedown happened. Not sure if it was before or after the Carson situation though. Also just a year (or two) before they took down a multiplayer client for GTA V. It wasn't all flowers and rainbows before 2017.
