"No real work was put into GTA V until 2010". So Rockstar North were just.. sitting on their asses for 2 full years? I see. Awesome to be able to speak to someone who has actually worked at the studio!

they literally werent, you seem oblivious of the fact that at 2010 Rockstar was struggling big time in finishing their scheduled games, Red Dead Redemption 1 was wrapping up development with huge struggles at optimization , it's likely Rockstar North was called to aid San Diego into it, same story goes with Max Payne 3 having a massive delay at the end of 2009, in which Rockstar had to call every studio they got to aid as much as they could, thus Max Payne 3 is known as a "Rockstar Studio's Game"
there's also Agent and Bully 2 getting canned for same said reasons, as the RAGE engine at the time was incredibly hard to work with, and they needed to Reroute manpower to all their struggling projects, I also invite you to take a look at the embedded Builds.xml extract, which im reposting below

<builds>
  <id>9348</id>
  <buildId>Initial Version</buildId>
  <buildDate>2009-04-20T12:27:20Z</buildDate>
  <buildInfo>Base version added upon creation of project</buildInfo>
  </builds>
  <builds>
  <id>9349</id>
  <buildId>CB_11-05-2010___09-15</buildId>
  <buildDate>2010-05-11T11:14:47Z</buildDate>
  </builds>

you can clealry see an entire year has passed between builds, with no Developer Notes of relevancy, and the 2009 entry clearly states they are merely creating the project

there's also no skips between buildid's, it goes straight from 9348 to 9349 between 2009 and 2010 , an entire year has passed between those two builds, it doesn't mean Rockstar wasn't doing anything, quite contrary they were extremely busy pushing anyway they could their other projects

It's really funny to me how desperately you're trying to paint the narrative of an entire studio's workforce across 2 years through the lens of some missing notes in an XML file. I honestly think you must be deluded to believe Rockstar created an initial build of GTA V only to then just sit on the project for over a year.

not that long ago there was a blog of an ex Rockstar employee in which they detailed a bunch of details of what went down at the time, the struggles of the GTA IV PC Port, why a RDR1 PC Port was never made at the time, why Bully 2 and Agent got canned, and why Max Payne 3 was delayed/soft rebooted in 2009 due to poor Playtesters feedback.
When Obbe Vermeij published his own blog, all of his posts seems to corroborate what this older other blog said, confirming it as facts.

this is not a new occurence. and as you'd know Rockstar Current employees personally requested Obbe to take down his blog

I'm not saying those things didn't happen, I'm just saying that + builds.xml doesn't prove GTA V having been put on hold until 2010.

You really shouldn't take builds.xml as the end-all-be-all. We don't even know what that file's exact purpose was, or what it was doing sitting in the 7th gen files. Sure it was a build log of some kind, but one that clearly left out a lot. Most of the 2010 builds don't even have notes, and once builds do start to get notes they're pretty thin lists allround. I'm pretty sure Bugstar was where they would've published detailed reports of dev builds, alongside any necessary video's or screenshots pertaining to bugs/new features/issues etc.

the builds in builds.xml are playable builds for testers, that file is used for integration with their bug tracker so that when a bug is filed it can be tagged with the correct build info. you can also think of those builds like the gta online updates we're getting but for developers/testers only. just because the game wasn't officially built during the year it doesn't mean they were sitting around twiddling their thumbs doing jack sh*t. multiple script and code files are dated between april and november 2009 (inb4 "this means nothing some are dated 2001"), work on "the paleto score" mission started in march 2010 -- 2 months before the first build -- and switch scenes in april 2010, and the "franklin and lamar" mission sets the in-game date to june 6 2009 which is oddly specific. that's just the time they were getting the game ready for the first official build that's actually able to run and be tested. i imagine by the first 2010 build they already had a quite a few missions, game mechanics, and most of the "relevant" portions of the map, vehicles, etc, prototyped or ready in the game in some way

Either way, those screenshots definitely weren't from V.

Definitely not. They must've been from VI. Hence the mods were quick to delete it in case T2 came knocking lol. If they haven't already. Blud really just dropped GTA VI dev screenshots without listing a source and then just dipped

nah.
i think it was just fake.

different things that gave it away.

1: ingame wireframe is green in dev builds unless they changed it, but i doubt it

2. if it were in max, the polygons would not be triangles.

R* works with quads.

and then that sign texture, it looks exactly like one of the IV signs at the airport

i think it even says las venturas too

image.png.78d740c64f08a9d8b349467b99ce6d71.png

so yeah, i say it was just a fake

Because it's another fake from a random recently registered account. That looked nothing like anything we've seen from RAGE or even any of its editing tools. Vegetation looked entirely off, even compared to other GTA V dev shots. Even worse if you think that's GTA VI - everything looked completely off compared to other GTA VI shots we've seen from any of the leaks, and there's no reason why they'd be using a GTA IV leftover sign when we've seen them using primarily GTA V assets.

If "the mods" wanted to take down this stuff before T2 said anything, then this thread which contains hundreds of GTA V source code things would've been nuked by now. Yet, it's not.

I think deleting the post (alongside me literally just reacting to what he said) without any explanation was crass. You literally could have just responded to that post the same way you have now. Fake information gets posted all the time, and this wasn't some obvious troll or sh*tpost.

I'm not encouraging the validity of the post, rollschuh has made some very good points, but the screenshots were so vague that "it not matching up with any of the leaks" is a weird argument to make? It was just a random stretch of road. There's many roads and places we haven't seen yet. The vegetation didn't particularly stand out to me at all, I fail to see what's so incredibly off about it. Then again, I'm not a GTA VI vegetation connoisseur I guess.

This "fake" had some effort put into it, so when you go deleting that post alongside posts of others discussing it without explanation, how can you blame others for speculating that T2 might've forced your hand lol?

it's better to delete them, as misinformation is something so stupidly easily widespread within the GTA Community, it's not something we need to deal with right now

deleting it instantly is still a dumb idea, even if it is fake, let the community come to that conclusion not the admins. and even if it is fake? so what, people post fakes all the time

I wish I had kept it saved because chances are it's gone by now, or chances are it's still out there, but I remember it was very similar to Obbe's

another thing I'd like to redact is that when I talked about Rockstar North being busy in 2009 I completely forgot one important product, and that is EFLC, so yeah, that's another one for the list

I saw that Waypoint Recordings were talked about a few years back. I didn't see anyone showing anything in-game so I decided to compile anything of interest into a video. The video shows a few from The Sharmoota Job (which have been mentioned before), a recording from an early version of Pack Man, and an entirely cut building outside of Legion Square I've not seen any mention of before.

Well that explains why Vangellico store is called v_jewel2, I've had a hunch that another jewelry store existed but didn't know where it would be located, it must've been cut very early because there's not a lot of free interior numbers before v_jewel2, and we know the blanks thanks to the leaks, yet v_jewel is nowhere to be seen

Not sure if these were brought up already but found a couple more Sharmoota Job waypoint recordings of (what is more than likely) the estate agent walking around the house.

Likely the last one, another waypoint recording, architect_route2, shows that the bridge on Movie Star Way (in Rockford Hills) was originally higher, and the ground on the Eastern side being a slight bit lower.

As it seems, Bar Activities were cut as well, according to some dialogues (that are still in the game files) there was meant to be more than a shot of whiskey in the Strip Club

Another one related to unused dialogues is the alternative taxi driver, the Latino bouncer who's making money on the side driving cabs

(Though there is a mod that replaces the default taxi driver with the bouncer)

man, people need to start looking more into analysis.zip Here is some more stuff I've found.

  • incendiary grenade, NOT molotov (all/ErrorReport_TxdHasNoDrawableChildren.game.csv)
  • "detonator" (all/ErrorReport_TxdHasNoDrawableChildren.game.csv)
  • machete was planned from the start (all/ErrorReport_TxdHasNoDrawableChildren.game.csv)
  • EOD (cut vehicle) had some sort of weapons (all/ErrorReport_CacheFile.textures.csv)
  • Tons of unused blips are mentioned (i.e. radar_drag_race.dds, radar_drive_thru.dds, radar_gym.dds) (textures/ErrorReport_NotInGame.hierarchy.csv)
  • there are various unused/unknown characters mentioned (i.e. armysmith, Ira Richards and others) (models/ErrorReport_CacheFile.textures.csv)
  • there are some name changes (DiSanto, Siemon Yeterian, Steve Hains) (models/ErrorReport_CacheFile.textures.csv)

And that's only a small chunk of whats there. There are tons of models named there...

The EOD would probably have a crane on it because there's some configuration for that, along with the cut Digger construction vehicle

I'm f*ckin dumb for not realizing it sooner. EOD has:

  • Electric sounds
  • Tracks
  • Weapons
  • Unused crane mechanics

 EOD was a bomb disposal robot!

I always imagined it looking like this tbh:

I initially found the police scanner referencing it years back and always thought it would be a bomb disposal robot. It is what EOD stands for…

Made me think of the OG MW3 Killstreak immediately.

Now admittedly there is 328 pages here so maybe these destruction sims have been shown off but if not...

I compiled a video with stuff relating to the cut second portion of the Monkey Business mission.

It also includes the vehicle recordings for the cargobobs flight path, michael and dave duct taped to it, and the janky cinematic camera that was left in the files as well.

As noted in a comment on the video, i might've mixed up franklin/trevors spots
