The GTA V beta hunt

Recommended Posts

I hope this belongs into this thread:

Just did a quick comparison to the hiker scene in trailer #1 and the final look at Mt. Chiliad. They are not 100 % accurate (weather is quite different, angle is quite different):

Nr. 2:

I think it's quite disappointing what R* did to that area.

Got a feeling that behind Mt. Chiliad there was a large forest area. It doesnt look like there was a highway in trailer #1. Look at those trees and the vegetation. I think that area was WAY different in the beta version.

They changed the Chiliad area drastically, I also got a feeling that they resized the mountain. The angle/point of view in These comparisons may be different, but it seems to me that in the hiker scene the mountain was way bigger and further away. When I first saw trailer #1 I thought we would be just a small dot on this massive mountain... the reality is way different.

What do you think? :)

Good shot, the mountain in the trailer looks way better. Why???

I guess it's draw distance, or the added trees near the top that makes it look closer in the final version. They should've put those trees where they originally belonged. And I don't see why they changed the type of tree neither, final ones looks like they're more laggy, they use more sheets textures.

Just found that area where hikers were standing. Either there wasn't any highway running there back in 2011 or it was just very clever camera angle that resulted the sense of area being different.

I would say it's a camera trick, there's no way Rockstar would have such a barren area such as that with no highway around.

Or it could simply be that they placed a picture of Chilliad, taken way further back, and placed the animation of the character models in front of it. Seems like a bit of a strech, but I can't see any other way the mountain can look that oversized, even with a camera trick.

Did we already post these, I forgot if we did or not, in earlier builds of the game, Michael, Franklin and Trevor had their own unique "Mission Complete" themes, these were done BEFORE the current composers came on board and thus have a different sound to them, but they were left buried in streams archive of the audio for the game:

Hmmm nice bike

I've never heard those before. Michael's sounds like something from Miami Vice, but Franklin and Trevor's sound awesome, too! They should have kept them instead of just using this.

Or at least pair that and the little tune up for each character.

I love of how each of the cut themes fit their personality. A nice hip-hop beat for Franklin, an 80s Miami Vice/Drive-like synth for Michael, and raging guitars for Trevor.

Franklin's themes are awesome! Those sound way better than now, even GTA IV had it's own variety of themes after completing missions and I'm not talking about EFLC (wich also had different mission end themes for each character).

These little things... even these little things got cut.

It all matches up - they must be from that earlier stage of development when the game had its interface more like GTA IV (with the previously found GTA IV-style radar and all).

A real shame about the mission passed tunes, these were part of GTA history. By the way, it's also a shame they didn't hire Michael Hunter. Guess which are the two most famous GTA themes, and who made them?

These are the pictures for the removed bounty missions, alongside a few others. Here's some information on these missions on the save editor.

Mike's theme would have been kickass in-game, it's like something out of Miami Vice.

I believe cut character phone icons were covered before, but I don't recall cut bail bond missions and cut properties being posted. If they were, of this is GTA:O stuff, then ignore this.

Interesting

Also, can we please stop with the hiker picture up Chilliad, its been bitched to death

-wasn't there meant to be a feature where you could steal money out of ATMs? I remember reading about it in a gaming magazine.

-Also, what's the likelihood of getting all of this cut content in the form of DLC?

I guess you're still able to steal that money, but from the dead NPCs that used the ATMs.

OK, so I did some digging around the past few days, so before it ends up on GTA Wiki without crediting me, remember who got this info, k?

So, many people pointed out Michael's music here, and how it sounded similar, so I looked into it, and found out it was done by Ian Hicks, now, Ian Hicks isn't listed on the GTAV Credits, but he IS listed in the credits for Max Payne 3 as "Additional Production and Performance" for the games score, now, what track did Hicks work on exactly? Well, none other than this stand out track:

As well as

, sounding familiar yet? Well I got in contact with Ian through some sources, and he didn't say much but confirm that originally Michael, Trevor and Franklin were supposed to have unique music, not just for Mission Complete, but for things like Loading Screens, Pause Music, etc, as the original idea by Rockstar was to give the game a distinct different feeling when playing as each character, which he said was later dropped in favour of working with artists such as Alchemist, Oh No, etc, but luckily the original team never got that far into their score, BUT he did say that one of his tracks remains in the game as the Pause Music, so, here we can assume that Hicks was in charge of Michael's score when he was working on the project, which means, the Pause Music in the final game was actually just intended to be for Michael only, and oh, have a listen below, and then have a listen to Max Panama again:

HOW'S ANNIE?

Wait, so pretty much they changed each character having a distinctive feel, to pretty much having three characters with different skins and side missions.

It may sound like over dramatising, but these things do in fact make a difference in the feel and vibe.

So that's why I get the feeling the Pause Menu fits Michael more than the others. That would've been very interesting, helping to build an even more different perspective of the characters, but R* makes the most stupid cut decisions, really, I always end up liking more the beta stuff on their games (IV gloves, Nikos' Trailer 2 hair, John Marston's old hair, Trevor's old shirt, IV countryside idea, everything in V Trailer 1, V beta map...). I don't think a few more tracks will make the game crash on these consoles.

Guys, just an random thought. If you paid attention to at least Xbox 360 version install sizes then you'll see that both discs are filled up to their maximum limit. It was financial and/or design decision to go with two DVDs. It is expensive for publisher to ship multi-disc games in retail.

That's why I have a theory it might be reason they left out some "non-essential" content and later ship them as DLC packages if they're worth shipping at all. Everything takes space, audio, geometry data, textures, animation data etc.

That's pretty much what I've been trying to say about the deleted content from the beginning.

It's not everything console limitations, but many of these is XBOX 360s limitation due to the fact that you can't place a lot into a DVD unlike the Blu-Ray, of course, they didn't want to add more exclusive features to PS3.

It was also the reason why the GTA IV, PS3 version had an exclusive close up view feature when watching TV because blu-ray can store a lot of files, and of course, R* wouldn't pay more money for more XBOX 360 format discs just to add 1 gb of content.

The PC version of IV did also have the close up view but it's because it could fit into 2 8gig DVDs, and because DVDs for PC aren't any special format.
