So I accidently stumbled upon these images that are available on the official R* website for GTA V, and I have to say while they definitely look heavily faked, possibly rendered, there's a few interesting things about them.

 

These were released on the 14th of September 2013, apparently. Look at the quality of those textures, some seem even better than the ones we got on PC, but could be wrong.

 

That model is never used in the game for the cashier, and I don't think he's ingame at all. Anyone ever seen him?

This one is obviously a render, I don't think that grove street member's head is in the final game at all. Cashier once again not used, but I think I've seen him as a random civilian before. Not sure about it. Once again, pay attention to those damn nice textures.

If you see the model textures of them in these two render pictures behaves different like peds is not moving, also like GTA SA models. The grove street ped in the game does behaves model textures more dynamically. I just noticed this something with model textures. I am not sure about what your opinions about this.

Do you remember the rumor of selling ice cream? It's already an ice cream vendor in the game. Ironically it's Cluckin Bell owns that ice cream vendor while Cluckin Bell mostly sell chicken foods. This vendor sells also burgers and donuts and milkshake. Sadly it's not functional in the game, so it's almost true it was cut from the game. I just felt it was interesting, but I am not sure about it.

What was "squaddie", you're wondering?

 

Well, I found this description a while back and for the absolute life of me I couldn't figure out what it was.

	0x1CAB71F3 = A 2-door light tactical military truck with lots of room in the back for cargo or passengers. Great for raiding a compound or rolling around with rappers or soccer moms, all of which need over-sized armored SUVs to travel through busy city centers.

Because "squaddie" is pretty much like "squad", the first thing that came into my mind was a military/law enforcement vehicle, then I reminded myself of the description and wondered if that would be it.

 

And it was. "0x1CAB71F3" translates to "CANDC_SQUADDIE"

 

This is the vehicle I'm referring to, the one that no-one knew the name of and was one of the biggest mysteries of the pre-release Warstock ad.

No idea what speedo3 and speedo4 would be. speedo2 is the Clown Van, speedo is, well, the stock van we see in-game. Liveried vans like the Burritos maybe?

Yes, it's a coincidence. "Houser" is blocked too. They just blocked the most known surnames for... reasons. Doubt there's any vendetta going on, it was always a "bad word" as far as I know.

If u run the PC version of the game in 4k with max aa and all other settings at true 4k, it does actually look like that, it's not just renders.

 

If u run it at 4k then max aa and downscale to 1080p monitor or anything smaller than 4k, it won't look like that. You can only get that result from max settings and true 4k and then downscale with the right algorithm in photoshop to get those results, but it really does look like that.

 

You can't do it on 1080p monitor downscale real time, but you can get that result from true size image downscaled the right way/viewed on the monitor of the original.

 

It really looks like that on completely modern setup.

The second one is obviously not ingame and is a render. It's not a game animation, just some sh*tty pose they made to promote the game on the last few days prior to release. And if it is ingame, it's heavily faked. That screenshot was made to promote PS3, PC wasn't even announced yet. Can't confirm that the first one is also not ''legit'', but wouldn't be surprised if it was the same case.

A lot of the screenshots prior to the game launch were PC version with dx11 features and other features not found on PS3/Xbox360 as well.

 

I am telling you, if you go to that location at those times of day, and run the game utterly completely maxed, and at true 4k, that is what it looks like.

 

Yea, they used a director mode to make that screen, but the poses are not "faked" or "static" or anything, they are just "time stopped"/action paused... Old animations before the game was done, or just normal anim that didn't quite fit the ped much.

 

It's not faked, it was to promote GTA V, regardless of platform, and again, a high percentage of screenshots from PS3/Xbox360 pre-launch were above those consoles capabilities in a lot of different ways.

 

It's a real screenshot - it is captured running 4k, max settings, and then downscaled after the fact.

 

The game does look that good, 1080p is incapable of displaying it, but 4k is not. Same as the other screenshots I mention, which show things 720p without any AA (ps3 res of gta v) is incapable of, as well as things that were dx11 only, impossible on old gen, and obviously downscaled. Bokeh depth of field, soft self shadowing, lots of stuff.

 

Have someone run the game true-4k full maxed and get a screenshot. I will then downscale it with the right algorithms and it will look the same (or better) than those images.

 

You can believe, it's really that good in that interior especially.

Those are not even using any AA, with AA, they would look like the store shots in the above posts. Do not zoom on them, and realize the browser's shrinking techniques are not the same or high quality as picking the algorithm you use and the screenshots there aren't as high quality in general.

 

With max AA, and layering all the AA effects, those screens would show you those are real screenshots :^:

Also my post doesn't go without a contribution, there is also a latino voice bank for the Park Ranger and the Yankton cops despite how silent they might sound, they do have voices, they either call themselves ''LHPD'' or just just say Yankton PD along other ''f*ck you'' lines.

Maybe... "LH" was a name of some beta city?

Considering its supposedly linked with N.Yankton, The "L" could potentially be Ludendorff, the town/district that we see in North Yankton. Not 100% sure, nor do I have much of an idea what the "H" is for. Just an idea.

There are screenshots they released that were indeed shot in the PC version such as the infamous screenshot of Trevor walking out of a burning house (that looked horrible in the gameplay trailer), but you're missing the point. These ARE renders. Rockstar does them all the time, specially for promotional content. These are not done ingame. They pose the models just for the occasion in programs such as 3DSMax. These animations were never meant to be used in the game, they're static, like statues.

I just removed the pictures in quotes because they are so big and it will take too much place of the post if you are worried about this post.

 

This does more sense to my comment about model textures in the renders. I visited the store in first picture and it's no reflection on the floor while I have mostly maxed out graphics because I do have a ASUS GTX 1080 STRIX 8 GB VRAM OC and 1080p Benq XL2420z monitor. The sorry out of order sign is also placed different because it was placed more right than middle.

 

The store in first picture is beside a bensin station in Los Santos near the coast.

Those shots are Completely different types of shots.

 

You go run GTA V in true 4k (even if you need to use nVidia virtual resolutions) and go ahead and max the game entirely, even if you only get 2 fps and it takes forever to set up the shot - at full maxed settings, and maxed aa, you can get this screenshot at true 4k quality and then you can give it to me, and I will resize it and show you how it may be before the game was complete but it WAS rendered IN the game engine, and it may or may not have Director Mode filters applied as well, but it was from the game.

 

It looks better than you think on PC maxed out 4k and then downscaled. I just don't have it installed on PC right now and I'm not downloading 70 gigs of my data cap to prove this.

 

And those shots you mentioned about trevor from the house, and all the other ones, look just as good, and interiors look better than exterior, too.

 

there's nothing delusional about it - you can reproduce the shot, especially with one of the natural looking filters in director mode.

 

Don't doubt it unless you prove it. Those are not max renders. I use max. I know the techniques in rage. Very well. No one believed those trevor shots were dx11 PC either, called them max renders and "bullshots", until the PC version came. And then that was proven, too.

 

Reproduce the shots in true 4k with all the settings maxed, you'll see =)

 

the best part: You don't have to believe me! But, at the same time, neither of us are right until someone takes the proposed screenshots to compare.

These scenes can not be 100% replicated in-game. The lighting is completely different and reflections are missing. I even played around with the sun and I can only get close to the position of the shadows. The textures in the render and the in-game screenshots do appear to be the same however, so they used PC textures. It's possible they are in-engine but if that's the case, then they were clearly taken on the PC version with tons of edits to the scene.
