Unknown Network Errors

  1. 1. Do you suffer from Unknown Network Errors

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I've changed my xbox from a Arcade (which used the hdd of my deseased Elite) but the network on that was soooo slow I decided to buy myself a slim. The slim turns out to be a lot faster then the old arcade, good choice there. However since I;ve got the slim hooked up I keep getting random Unknown Network Errors way more often then with the arcade it seems. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Cheers,

Doc

Biohazard Abyss

My friend experienced this today, but it eventually cleared up. I have received no unknown ones, but I do have a history of timing out over and over to the point where I couldn't play online for 4 days.

No, not for me. I use wireless connection on my ps3 with a very old router (6mb/s) and I never get network errors or lag

I have voted for plenty. I get this problem 4 or 5 times a week, sure it's not a lot but still classed as plenty in my opinion.

Hmmm, just hooked up my xbox up over a direct cable instead over wifi and the issue persists. Im completly at a loss. I've got to assume you guys are right about it being something nasty on rockstars side of things.

Varies between plenty and often. Either way, too much.

Also a lot of stupid lag in freeroam and races, increasingly more and more since Xmas. Kinda makes racing impossible to win now, and I got to move slowly in freeroam or I get killed during lag spikes. Sometimes it works just fine, but it's getting pretty rare now.

Then I would go on my PC, play BF4 in ultra with 60fps easy and no lag whatsoever. Honestly I don't get it.

I had the exact same thing with my previous xbox, hence i decided to upgrade my network card on it, turned out it was only 25 euro extra for a slim, so I went with the slim. You will not believe the speed difference between the slim and my old xbox. If GTA runs it runs so smooth now.

Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out. Hope it's not too expensive. I don't really feel like buying an old console just for GTAO, but I guess it could be worth a shot in the long run. My xbox is pretty old though, guess she had her time already hehe.

Ever since the 1.08 patch, when I load up gtav, I can't go straight to online. If I try it just loads endlessly. I have to load story mode, then use the character wheel to get to online. Ps3 by the way.

Ok, I seem to have been able to fix it. Even though the xbox network check itself succceeded with a NAT OPEN report it wasnt as open as it was supposed to be. The reasoning behind the fix baffles me but it turns out it was my router. Even though I had upnp set it wasnt enough, I moved my xbox to my dmz so it's completely exposed as well as disabled all ipv6 functionality on my router. That combination seemed to have done the trick. With upnp the xbox only seems to open port 3074 UDP while in reality it needs:

  • Port 88 (UDP)
  • Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)
  • Port 53 (UDP and TCP)
  • Port 80 (TCP)
  • Port 500 (UDP)

It seems an unknown network error occurs as soon as traffic is send from Rockstar to a closed port.

Additionally since my router is a noob device that does a lot of native filtering aside from what you tell it to do (i.e. exposed is not fully exposed) you'll need to disable all additional filters (such as ipv6 support, disable upnp, disable all access settings for the home network, except netbios filtering for the Fritzbox routers. Strangely enough the xbox slim seems to handle traffic slightly different from older models of xboxes (as I had almost no issue using my old xbox with the same router). I have also completly disabled upnp.

So strangely enough the issue was on my side, it would really help though if Rockstar would simply report Unkown Network Error, expected traffic on port 500 UDP but no response was received. From a troubleshooting perspective that would help immensely.

I suspect that the issue on my side was a combination of Rockstar thinking I had ipv6 in some situations combined with not having a port open that should be open and was defined to be open.

I went from 30-40 Unknown Network Errors per play session down to zero so far.

'plenty' and 'very often' mean the same thing, stupid. I couldn't vote because I have gotten an unkown network error a few times.... but out of the many many times I've logged in... I wouldn't even call that "sometimes". So I can't vote for "No" and I can't vote for "sometimes". Stupid poll

Well. I have the older model (white box) just blacked out with the silver open tray lining and I never get Network Errors.

My son has the newer slim model and can only play in invite only lobbies (which works out perfect because of his age lol)

Don't know what the issue of it is, i thought the NAT was closed and it was a port issue of some sort, after contacting AT&T and having a tech come visit my setup he told me everything should be working fine as far as game connections.

Soo.. not to much of an issue with my household, but can TOTALLY understand some of you guys issue with this.

F*cking aggravating I assume.

It takes 8-12 minutes from the time I start the XBox to getting online in GTAV, before actually playing.

It's a process.

Once playing, though, it takes about 10-15 minutes before I get either the <player> left; <player> left; <player> left; <player> left; etc. messages, where the session empties out and I'm solo;

OR, I get the "unknown network error," which boots me back to SP and I have to rejoin GTAV Online.

It happens usually once per session, but I've seen it happen three times in a one-hour session.

Makes me weep like Claire Danes.

From time to time.

If you can't sign back in, reboot your console and try again.

Always works for me :)

I also have experienced this & the Xbox freezes where the controls are locked. The only thing to do in this situation is power off then on again.
