Vice City Nostalgia

So, as I said on the previous page, I have downloaded GTA: Vice City for PS3, which makes it the first time I have played it in several years. I thought I'd tell you all how I got on ;)

I simply fell in love with this game all over again, from when I first saw that intro with that awesome music to playing missions and just cruising around causing chaos in the beautiful streets filled with the sun flares and everything ( :inlove: ). It has felt weird in some areas (as the last time I played VC was on PC with better graphics and other small things) but even that doesn't bother me too much, it is still a great game :^:

This game was my childhood. The intro, the pink motorbike, the colours, the weapons, the mall, the cool shops, the cars, everything in this game is just perfect.

Got it on Steam at weekend, well, GTA 3, VC, SA, IV and the Episodes for £6.99. Just need to hook my DS3 up to the PC and i'm golden! Might even try out some of the mods for bringing the graphics a bit more up to date.

I loved the 80s music, the similarity to movie Scarface, making the cops to chase me and then trick them into falling in the water, taking a Hunter from the army base and having air battles with police helicopters. It was one of the first games I played on PC,so I remember it for that too.I was also surprised to hear the songs from the game in real life on the radio and TV(before that I only played games on SNES and PS1 that mostly had their own theme songs).

Im playing it again on my pc, it is still a lot of fun, I remember first time I played it and walked out on the edge of the steel girder and looked down it actually made me feel dizzy.

The comments from the pedestrians are great "I cant see you but i smell you" " I tried taking my pants off over my head" "Are you the doctor"

"Don't make me run ive had too many burgers"

I used to stand on the street near the Mall and fire my pistol, just to get a reaction from the security guards ,they come from all sides firing at you.

Id drive a car deliberately down the side of the buses just to flatten the guy standing by the doors.

Throw explosives into the road and wait till a car came and time it so the car did a 360 before blowing up

Stand in the road and punch vans with the 2 or one guy in theyd usually get out and run away or call you a "nutjob"

Runover a paramedic then when the other one comes over shoot him.

I could go on for hours such a great game.

The music. *_*

The game evokes nostalgia to me, and the music itself recalls memories from like 30 years ago ^^

Double nostalgia ;)

The first few missions will always have a special place in my heart. I will always remember being like 10 years old trying to complete Riot and Demolition mad and how frustrated me and my friend would be. But now when I play them they seem so easy. Good times :)

The most epic moment to me is right at the very beginning of the game, when Tommy is outside of Ken's office.

At that moment, I always enter the Faggio, and listen to Billy Jean... it feels so "80s"!

This game is just epic from start to end, and like many of you, it was the 1st game I've played, and the 1st GTA I've played so as you might imagine, it means A LOT to me even nowadays, nearly 10 years later.

As a GTA fan, I have to say that this game really is a "must-have" indeed, one of the best GTA games that Rockstar made for the PS2, if not the best one. I still have mine (PS2 version, and installed on my PC as well) and I won't sell it or get rid of it for nothing, that game is "untouchable" to me :inlove:

I still play VC to this day. Actually I just started a new save. I've often thought about downloading off PSN, but I prefer playing it on my old PS2 which ironically is the same age as the game.

Despite the newer games spoiling me with generally better graphics, physics, controls etc VC just has this unique charisma that not even GTA IV has and everyone knows how much I love GTA IV.

In ways I feel sorry for those that never got to experience it when it was new. It's hard to think it's been nearly 12 years yet despite all the years that have passed it's still my favourite game from the 6th generation.

The first rain storm where I saw water droplets running down my screen. If I had any doubts before that, I knew this was going to be a great gaming experience. I just liked the whole 80s setting in general. The colors, the music, the vehicles, the people, the mansions - everything.

It's gotten to the point I don't even shoot it up any more. I just stand there and let Call Me - Automatic - Dance Hall Days loop over and over again.

Those three songs pretty much remind me of the entire game whenever I hear them now, as well as when I used to play it during the summertime years ago.

I used to play my brothers version of it when I was younger, although I only ever played free roam. I went back and played it a few years ago. Amazing game.

Also, a lot of people are convinced that GTA VI will be set in Vice City again... If they do it would be quite interesting to see the icy completely different as last time. For example it was all sunshine and happy and was awesome in every way. So if they go back to VC maybe they could show it as a really dark and gritty place, where everything has completely changed.

Would be cool but I guess you just can't change the whole vibe that VC gave off, I loved it because it was set in the same year I was born so it was interesting seeing a parody version of 1986.

The clothes were a huge influence on my wardrobe.

I have Lance Vance's ensemble and I buy drinks for anyone who recognizes it. I have Vercetti's Soiree suit. I would have bought the Hawaiian shirt in a heartbeat if Rockstar had offered it for the 10th Ann.

I think it all comes down to the colors and the fact Vice City has a color scheme that paints a feeling impossible to find in any other game.

I install Vice City from time to time, but to install modifications over it. If I like cruising around the city, I just use a 100% save game file.

I'm more adjusted to Liberty City's graphics. It feels like only yesterday when I used to dread the RC Missions. I always thought that Asset and Diaz missions were the hardest. Now, it's like fish feed.

Still, I'm not a big fan of the HUD, Car Handling, Collisions and Map size till date.

My first GTA ... My first console game ever ... Epic childhood memory ! Listening to "La Vida Es Una Lenteja" while watching the skyscraper far away imagining what could "the other city" (the west island) looks like ... (I wasn't playing mission at that time, and didn't know how it was possible to go visit this other city !). I'm kinda sad to see that nowadays, in every GTA/GTA-Like, the map is fully unlocked from the begining.

VIce city in my opinion is the best chapter of the whole gta Story, filled with citations from Carlito's Way to Scarface, you could really smell the spirit of the 80's, Phill Cassidy was one of the most hilarous and crazy characters of all the time, Lance Vance was the pure clichè of the 80's action films and the Radio Statios were just great, most of all the V-Rock in all the vice series, that radio ruled, filed with great bands like Anthrax, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, The TW, Slayer, and so on.
THe missions too were great, the one that you hade to move the lights for the ADV of candy suxx was great, not to talk about the one for the "Cuban boss" can't remembe exactly his name now.
The Vice City will be forever one of the best series of GTA if not the best one ever made.

I remember being blown away by the motorcycles. I loved riding them and I appreciated the way Tommy's shirt would move with the wind. I was also a fan of the sea and the way it sparkled.

The mall was good too, driving around and getting wanted stars. The list of nostalgia for this game is endless

I know this thread is old, but anyway....

Playing VC again just gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling. It probably hits home too that I'll be 30 in a few weeks and so will VC's story/setting. One of the reasons I have such a sentimental attachment to it quite frankly. Still one of the best games of the modern generation.

A classic that'll be remembered and revered for many years to come. :)

I haven't played it as much as I've played San Andreas or IV, but I have much love for Vice City, especially after getting the PC version in Summer '12 (dat mouse targeting system and camera, which pretty much completely removed the one major issue I had with the game on consoles, namely the targeting/camera mechanic. Though I wish you could just make Tommy walk instead of just jogging all over the place). Nostalgia of course plays a huge role in it; it was the first GTA I ever played, before my parents made me sell it due to not exactly being thrilled with the content. But at the time, its impact was huge - it really was the coolest f*cking game on the market. And even though I didn't spend a second in the '80s ('90s child), the game still gives me this happy nostalgic feeling because the atmosphere is just so perfect. I also spent pretty much every vacation in my childhood and teens at Myrtle Beach, NC, and even though MB and VC (or rather, '80s Miami) are entirely different animals, the game still captures that beach city atmosphere so well that it brings back a lot of happy memories.

And the soundtrack!. To this day, it's absolutely insane to me that they managed to pack this many amazing, big-name songs and artists into one game (that GTA III money must have really come in handy, haha). How often can you find the King of Pop in a videogame? (and no, that Michael Jackson: The Experience thing doesn't count.) Even today, I'm still finding new songs to love from it.

And of course, the story and gameplay itself are sublime. The story is just plain awesome, and as a huge fan of movies like GoodFellas and Scarface, many moments put a huge smile on my face. (It even appeals to my James Bond geekdom, as Col. Cortez is voiced by Robert Davi, who played one of my favorite villains ever as Franz Sanchez in Licence to Kill.) And the gameplay is 100% pure GTA, raw and uncut like Bolivian fishscale. So many fun missions and side-activities (even if "The Driver" really sucked), and no GTA since has quite topped the feeling of starting as just a small time Mafia peon in a strange new place to being King of the entire city. When you unlock the Mr. Vercetti outfit and wear it, it feels earned. Not even San Andreas and Vice City Stories, which featured expanded empire building features (especially VCS), topped the feeling of progression and satisfaction that Vice City gives you.

And the trailers, oh man. I had

on a OPM demo disc, and I remember watching it over and over thinking it was the coolest thing ever.

One last thing, the cover art might be my favorite video game cover art of all time. Yeah, it's of the same template as nearly every other GTA cover, but IMO no other game cover conveys its tone, theme and atmosphere quite as perfectly as the Vice City cover does. I don't collect posters, but if I could only hang up one on my wall, it would be Vice City's cover art.

Not wrong there buddy.:)

VC's cover art is awesome. Then again all the GTA games have amazing cover art. It's often hard to pick the best, but I agree VC's conveys its tone, theme and atmosphere brilliantly. Even its back cover does.
