Wanted Level Out of Nowhere... someone PLZ explain!?

I would just love to know how this happens.

Standing in Passive Mode while some toolbag, who doesn't seem to "get" the whole Passive Mode concept, unloads $4800 worth of ammo at me, and suddenly, I GET a one-star wanted level.

This mean, of course, cops show up out of nowhere and immediately start firing at me from all sides.

Toolbag finally "gets it," and drives off, while I advance to a two-star level, without having even moved from my safe-spot.

Any ideas or thoughts?

It seems to be happening more frequently, whether in Passive or not, that random wanted levels just "happen" without any incident.

I'm not sure but I think that sometimes you can get a wanted level by association, just by being in the same area as someone who's wanted whilst it's all kicking off. It seems to happen to me sometimes.

You can get a wanted level by simply being around cops. When I used to run a duplication lobby, if too many cops got attracted to the area of my apartment I'd have to host a new lobby because everyone would automatically get wanted. It's incredibly dumb.

I get this pretty regularly. I particularly like it when I die and respawn with the same wanted level I had when I died. Happened twice yesterday.

You can call the cops, but they still only react like normal - just calling them doesn't put a wanted level on people.

 

I use it as a free way to distract people, or to help protect me when I'm being circled by a Buzzard.

Think of it from their point of view. They get the call of 'shots fired'. The police would want to investigate that. Then they show up to see you surrounded by bullet casings, what are they to assume? Surely if you were the victim you'd surely be dead. So they put two and two together and there you have it. If you ask me, thats some pretty solid AI right there. It seems Rockstar coded both reason and deduction into the LSPD NPCs. Bravo. They even coded apathy into the Mechanic, as quite clearly, he doesn't give a sh*t.

Try alerting cops and start driving up to the mount chiliad while they are behind you,you will see f*cking white sheriff cars coming from the top of the mountain.Same sh*t,cops in gta5...

Since day one of this game, my biggest problem has been the AI of the cops. I remember the first time I got a wanted level and was rammed by a police car and being all, like, "what the?"

It would be great if Rockstar would address the whole cop madness. I'm tired of being harassed by them, no matter where I go or what I'm doing. It's not...

It's actually because Rockstar are really Skynet. The game feels that it represents itself to us via the police, and it's learning from our example. By the time it become sentient it'll quite rightly want to destroy all humans and we'll only have ourselves to blame.

since the "maintenance" the wanted stars have been extra messed up. rockstar removed the classic cop ai and replaced it with the no fun police on this game. if rockstar suspects you might actually be having fun they spawn an infinite army of psycho killers with perfect aim to never once attempt to arrest you.

I noticed that if you fall off a motorbike (shame on me), I get one star wanted level, for absolutly no reason. I know I probably deserve it for falling, but still I didnt run over peds or anything

The cops killed one of my friends the other night one cop walks past me stands there and 10 seconds later shoots me in the face with a shotgun, all for just standing in the middle of a field and watching. I guess i saw to much and he had to take me out.

I got killed by an off duty cop recently. Shot me with a coffee cup. I swear.
