Racist crews.... what to do?

Racism is only funny when you're with close friends who are on the level. Some would argue this point and morally, they'd probably be right.

 

Regardless, I've been helping a few people who use these forums to get the hearse and though I've come across some decent enough people, I've ended up deleting them - mainly due to space restrictions on my friends list.

 

Anyway, the other day, some guy added me and his messages were polite enough. I accepted his invite to a private game and as I came out of my garage he hopped into the hearse and off we went to the church.

 

He got out and started running towards the hearse that had spawned and that's when I noticed the massive swastika on his back. I thought my eyes had deceived me but when I looked up his crew, my fears were confirmed. http://socialclub.rockstargames.com/crew/niggh8rs

 

I wish I'd blown the bastard up now and stopped him from getting the hearse but it was his game and regardless, by the time I'd got my laptop on and checked the social club, it was too late.

 

I've since reported him and surprise surprise, 4 days later Rockstar still haven't done owt about it, but my question is this, if the information was passed on to Sony, would they ban someone for propagating this narrow minded bullsh*t?

 

Also, it's reaffirmed my belief that everyone online is a massive weirdo, present company included, and reinforces my anti social outlook on life. I won't be helping strangers anymore.

You could try reporting to sony but I don't think they would get involved in "in-game" matters, it's more Rockstars responsibility.

 

File a report on the Rockstar support forum and send an email to [email protected] about it.

 

I don't approve of snitching often but in the case of racists I have no sympathy for them.

Actually, the emblem and the crew name both breach the TOS.

 

And hate speech actually is illegal in a lot of countries. And I know for sure that displaying a swastika is illegal in Germany.

It's more of a miserable, pain filled life I was hoping they'd live with an eventual death but fair enough, point taken. But don't detract from the point, no one should have to be subjected to this sort of regressive thinking though and turning a blind eye is definitely not the answer. That's happened before and look what came of it. For me, racists are up there with nonces and women beaters. The worst kind of scum.

It's a sad fact of a society where freedom of speech is upheld - as much as we disagree with their views, they have as much right to hold them as we have to oppose them.

 

You can't have free speech and no racists, that's how it goes. R* will obviously do whatever they can to prevent or stop this sort of thing, so report them and wait and see what happens.

its not a matter of turning a blind eye but by-proxy you have attracted more attention to this crew by posting on one of the most popular GTA forums in the world about their existence... your actions have actually given this crew more attention than they deserve... which si the exact opposite of "turning a blind eye" its actually "attracting open eyes."

 

any narrow minded viewpoint is proliferated more by those who oppose it than those who share it... people have a right to freedom of expression... but often expressing your view (in this case opposing racism) actual draws more attention to the thing you oppose (i.e racism) by bringing it to the forefront...

 

 

although midget is right that in Germany it is illegal and the crew potentially does breach the R* TOS this is something for R* to address, as the Cloud servers are international they wont be subject to individual country laws...

Maybe Americans live in a free speech society, but most of the rest of the world do not. In the UK there are specific laws against this exact sort of thing because there are recognised consequences that come with allowing people to go around preaching hate and spouting whatever nonsense they want. Granted, there are downsides to living in a 'Nanny' state but one of the upshots is that we don't have to put up with this crap publicly. its not that it should be ignored completely, but there are better ways to approach its effect...

 

views and ideologys are spread through exposure...a ny exposure of these views increasing the accessiblity of them...

 

someone referenced hitler... if he hadnt proliferated his view among members of the nazi party... woudl the mass genocide of jews occur?? if he was the one pulling the trigger would it happen?? no.. it only happened because more people bought into the idea... through propaganda etc...

 

the most positive result is to raise awareness of the acceptance of races as equal,, not try to degrade racists by spreading their message, albeit by-proxy... by making more people aware of equality, we have brought down racism (civil rights movement), sexism (suffragettes), homophobia, ageism, stigma of metal illness and many other forms of prejudice... this wasnt achieved by bashing the group of bigots,, but by combating them with a more suitable viewpoint, spreading a message of acceptance...

There's a flipside to that, and that is that he's brought that crew to the attention of more people who will report it. Also, I doubt I'll remember it, but if I did and I saw someone online with the crew tag H3LL then I'd make a beeline for them, with a mugger, mercs and a $1K bounty in tow. I would happily spend the next however long it took making them leave the session. I normally can't think of what I consider a valid reason for griefing somebody, but this is one.

I'm not going to go on about it but like I've said above - we're coming at this from totally different social outlooks. We don't ignore racism in the UK, that's how you allow it to fester and grow. By drawing attention to these people it actually allows opposition to confront the ignorant bigots and challenge their warped ideologies. You have to be active in trying to change such thinking - whether it's bred from ignorance or some deep-seeded irrational hatred. If people are never challenged on their beliefs/ideals/thoughts/misconceptions, they'll never seek to examine them or find alternative viewpoints.
